    Ever heard of tunneling? if you're setting up networks like that, you should use VPN or similar.

    relies on me to find the latest virii/worms that are going to pound the bandwidth, get their port numbers, and setup ACL's accordingly. Not only do the customers like it, it gives us more time to patch our hundreds of machines, and decreases our incoming bandwidth.

    Overall, I help stop another hundred thousand or so Win32 users from pounding the net to death. I don't see how anyone could see this as a bad thing. (welcome input)

    ...and to improve on the market share, you need something to get people over to linux.

    its extremely hard for companies (the money holders) to go cold turkey to a completely different OS (than MS-Win).

    Personally I'm only writing stuff for unix/linux and working on transitioning over the few apps I use in Win32 environment by using WINE. It will keep me from dual-Pc'ing with 2 different OS's and will keep my boss' respect of linux up where it should be.

    But if we get just 5-10% market share...

    Here's a catch (sort of), the 5-10% of the market-share that the linux users have are generally:

    1. in the position to setup other people's computers (terminals at work, grandma's PC, etc.)
    2. developers for products that you say can be pwned from Microsoft


    ...the point being, we (myself being a linux user) generally have more control over the market situation than the grandmas that play with outlook express.

    Don't you think they wouldn't mind dropping their profit margin a little (per unit) if they would increase the number of sales?

    There is a market for a device described. Just like there was one for the iPod. Demand is there. Supply simply is not.

    Responding to the point about the lame excuse, a lot of people REALLY are that dumb. I do, however, feel that this woman really wasn't.

    Personally I'm going to customize the GPL for my work where you cannot use it with SCO software, for the SCO company, etc. etc.

    There's no reason I'm going to better the work of a company who tries to harm my OS!

    Its not necessarily the quantity of the food you eat, its more the quality... and then you have to take into account your metabolism.

    If you eat more food of higher quality (less fat, calories, carbs, preservatives, etc.) but spread them out across the day, it will keep your digestive system running constantly and therefore increase the burning of calories.

    Worked for me. I dropped 40 lbs in the last year.

    I'll piss in that one too...

    First of all, the article itself is barely 2 pages in length. I did read it. I did realize what they did and why they did it.

    Second, what makes you think the guys wouldn't want to sell something like this as a kit? Is it too hard to believe that they would? Would it be so hard for the people writing the article to say: They just built it to build it.

    Third, I'm glad you feel special that you can browse around /. just trying to find someone to rip on.

    This would have instant cool uses for designs on bedspreads or sheets, custom car paint jobs, walls, etc. etc.

    Personally I would use it for when I'm building furniture (desks, tables, etc.) to give it a once over with some spray wood treatment or color.

    The article is kind of light on details of sales and such though. Looks more like a hack job. But hey maybe it'll be the first printer to have linux drivers FIRST! ;)

    What I REALLY wonder about is all the idiots buying SCO stock, and why it's still hovering around $10 as opposed to the 1 cent it's really worth.

    If you look at the intraday charts, they drop (harshly) until around noon EST (buy buy buy), press release saying they own the rights to Jesus and that everyone who has every said his name owes them a dollar, price goes up quite a bit (percentage wise). People make money.

    brilliant eh?
