  1. Go or Goo - time will say on Google Engineer Decries Complexity of Java, C++ · · Score: 1

Old tactic to promote your new product. However focusing on "negative" aspects of some very strong languages I believe was a mistake. Let the time decide if "Go" is better or just another "Goo" that will end up in our digital world sewers.

I never found enough quality in Apple products to actually buy one. I am not saying their products got unnoticed by me. But I never buy something without doing some research first. And with Apple every single time I was tempted to buy and did my research I found that I can buy better quality for less money from some other place. I guess Apple story has lot more to do with snobbism and fashion than pragmatism. So if people like to buy Apple I am ok with it. And if people criticise Apple I bet this is useful for Apple itself as well. So let it be.

In this century most of developers can work very well at home. They are means to check on them for supervision purposes and the company can save a LOT of money on commercial leasing space, electricity and so on. Net meetings are more desirable than just shooting questions randomly at each other. They simply force you to be well organized and promote good time management habits.

  6. Re:They don't care about the problems today. on Ubisoft DRM Problems Remain Unsolved · · Score: 1

Piracy is just free advertising. Most of the people who uses pirated games are not going to buy them anyway. But they will spread the word, they will show the game, etc. It is also true that some are checking the pirated version just to be sure the game is worth buying. But these are another category.

Assuming the war against piracy will be won by the big companies, I really doubt it will drive their sales trough the roof though.

You are right. DRM for single player games is absolutely a retarded idea. And look what happened. AC2 emu server got a lot of popularity. People are updating the response database many times per day ! I would be curious to find out how many people from those who are using the emu server actually bought the game and are using this hacked version just out of frustration.

  8. Interesting on New Litigation Targets 20,000 BitTorrent-Using Downloaders · · Score: 1

Any use of Bittorrent or any other P2P pretty much by definition "includes receipt, or expectation of receipt, of anything of value, including the receipt of other copyrighted works". It is also quite easy for offline non-commercial infringement to fall under that definition.

I am not as knowledgeable like you, but judging by what you said the use of the internet itself falls under the same category like P2P. So using the internet is a felony or something? Because every time I use the internet I expect to "receive anything of value" and sometimes this might include copyrighted work as well. Can you please help me understand this? thanks, Val

This is not the first time I've heard a new protection technique bragging about being harder and more difficult to hack. It will be hacked, you will see. The problem is it has a very idiotic design. Probably UBI hired a janitor for the software project management position or somebody with similar IT knowledge. By generating so much frustration for the gamers, even the people who bought the game will look for a way to hack this stupid protection. This will end by far the most popular gaming crack from all the times.
