As humans, we often think we know all the benefits (and costs) of doing something before we do it. In our daily lives this is very useful because things ARE predictable. This isn't the case with space exploration. You can debate till you are red in the face about the costs/benefits of space exploration, but you will never actually know it until you do it, so get off your lazy asses and do it already.
Even companies whose business it is to know, don't know.
I recently made an inquiry at Codecanyon about copyright. It was a simple question. Can I use multiple instances of the software on a single website? To my horror they told me-
"We are not qualified to give out legal advice and recommend that you contact a legal professional for assistance if you are unsure which license would be suitable for your needs. "
If they don't know, how the hell am I going to know??!! And how are they going to find out if I'm violating their copyright?
Ridiculous.
The Govt and TEPCO have been covering everything up from the get go.
They are still telling people that it is ok to eat the food. Rice is within acceptable limits people!
They should have quarantined everything off and thoroughly tested it before letting any food out of Fukushima/Chiba, but instead they assume innocent until proven guilty. To make matters worse, I believe that testing is largely left up to the Fukushima prefectural government. It is in their best interests (at least short term) to not find any radiation or at least not find amounts high enough to warrant banning produce.
From what I understand of the situation, the cheeky bastards have been mixing radioactive produce (rice, milk) with non-radioactive produce so that the radiation level is within "acceptable limits".
But I guess I shouldn't have been surprised. Hell, they started planting fresh crops of rice in March.
There are many ways to stick your head up your ass-this is just one of them.
There may come a time when all the resources on this planet have been used up and we are no longer able to escape from "prison earth".
I would think that utilising the resources that are in abundance beyond the earth would prove more "environmentally friendly" in the long run.
Fukushima was bad. You can expect whatever they told you in the media to be a whole lot worse.
Just do the testing at Fukushima. Can't get much worse than it already is.
GATTACA

How about people only being allowed to vote on things that they have qualifications/ proven experience for?

Several workers have died 'mysteriously', but they didn't attribute it to the radiation...........and probably never will
