  2. Re:Time is up, Let the Bombs Fly on Iran's Nuclear Ambitions · · Score: 1

Saying Iran is not responsible for 9/11, and most Al-Qaeda operations is ridiculous. Whether directly or indirectly (funding, religion, etc) they are the puppet masters, and anyone who has had dealings in the middle east knows this. They have given good and peaceful arabs a very bad name. Israel has always been under attack, it is simply a matter of time before the morons in the middle east try to attack her again. Nuclear weapons bring a whole new dilemma, that conventional do not. They cannot under any circumstances be allowed to have any nuclear abilities what-so-ever. If we let them, who next, Cuba? Venezuela? etc .. Gotta draw the line in the sand ...

  3. Time is up, Let the Bombs Fly on Iran's Nuclear Ambitions · · Score: 1

I think the time is up. This is ridiculous, they hid it, they violated every rule in the book. They could easily have a nuclear weapon we do not know about, and use it on Israel, or sneak it into the US. This is like playing russian roulette with suicidal maniacs. The idiot president before Obama invaded iraq, mistake from the beginning. He should have invaded Iran, Iraq was never a threat. I am very liberal, alwasy vote dem etc, but enough is enough. Being Liberal, and having balls are two seperate things. They should give them an ultimatum to shutdown all nuclear plants or face a constant barrage of bombing across the entire country. No Ground troops, just bomb them back to the stone age.

My angry two cents from someone who worked in WTC, and really would not like to see it happen again ...

  4. Research on Obama Proposes Digital Health Records · · Score: 2, Insightful

I think people are missing the point. Like most projects that need funding you need a selling point, and a true point. And rarely are they the same. In this case the selling point is that digitizing the records will help reduce costs and save money. While this may be partially true I doubt the true reason behind the project is this, and that this is simply the selling point to get approval from the public and congress.

I believe the true reason behind the digitizing of the records is for research. Think about the large scale research that can be done on these records, it is amazing just to contemplate. A perfect example would be Autism. Does the MMR shot actually give a child autism. Does autism ever develop before the shots? What is the average time after the shot? Does the shot not have anything to do with autism? You can extract such large amounts of data to target your smaller studies from, instead of taking guesses as they do today and where to start.

    Just my two cents...

  7. C++ should be FIRST, Java should be second, thenC# on Learning Java or C# as a Next Language? · · Score: 1

C++should be FIRST, second Java, then C#! Now with that said let *Attempt* me back that up. I work currently in all 3, I would say about 60% of my time is in JAVA, 30% in C# and 10% in C/C++. I am also not a typical Slashdot user as I don't HATE Windows and just love linux. To be honest I love and hate both of them and use each of them for what they are good at. So ...

C++ first: So why C++ first, isn't it OLD and outdated? Well Yes to some extent and No to another. C++ is like learning how to bake a cake from scratch u learn the lowest of the low in details. Why things work and all the different ways they work and why things were designed the way they were in Java and C#. C++ is a beautiful and ugly language at the same time but also has an ENOURMOUS amount of power in the right hands. I equate learning C++ to learning how to bake a cake, You don't use the duncen hines mix the first time, u actually use all the basic ingredients like flower, etc. This gives u an understanding of what exactly does what in the cake.

Java Second: Why Java second? FIrst because it's easier to learn in a more CORRECT manor that C#. NOw let me clarify that before I get flamed. I don't care who u are or what u know but Sun's Java Docs whip the ass of microsoft documentation. THis little ignored but yet so important thing means a LOT when it comest to learning a language. Now I've been programming for many years and when I learned C# tracking down what the [] operator does for each different MS class was a total BITCH. Java is also proably the most popular language right now and is not goign anywhere. Anyone that says it is knows nothing abotu server programming. There is not MAJOR financial bank that does the bulk of it's trading on Windows or C# backends, it's all either UNIX or LINUX with JAVA or C++ and at some of the older banks, COBOL. Windows is not great for servers, it has many drawbacks... but that is a debate for another time.

C# third: C# is Java, anyone that says it's not does not know both. But what C# has is the ability to integrate easy with Windows, and this means a lot. This to me is it's only Advantage, as I like to use windows as my primary desktop. As for a language, it's OK, I personally like java Better, but it's a 6 half a dozzen split to be honest. My pet peeve though is the [] operator and the delegate/event mechanisms, I truely don't like those, but that's just personal. I think those lead to bad programming and less OO design. As for MONO, I hope is succeeds and does well, but for now it's just a joke, u can't use it in an enterprise environment, they just don't have it workign well enough unfortunatly.

So in closing I would learn in that order, I like all three, I use all three. My personal favorite is Java but that might have more to do with IntelliJ than anything else. Visual Studio is a piece of shit in comparison. I hope they get it right the next time, I here the new one is slightly better than the 2003 version I use.

    Hope that Helps!

  8. Standards Shandards! on What Workplace Coding Practices Do You Use? · · Score: 1

So they asked u to create standards? Well basically they put u in one hell of a shitty position since most people are no longer going to like you. From the sounds of it u work for a company where IT is a supporting role, not a Money Making role. If i were u I would create the simplest standards to get the job done. The most important thing to do is be PRODUCTIVE! if you are not productive who cares what standards you have, cause u ain't gonna have a job. So if I were u, make is SIMPLE. ONLY put commects in areas of code that are NOT intuitive. put all code in same place, have a testing environment and production environment. Anything else the tradeoff is time used will not be worth it to the time away from pure development. Any coders worth there salt will perform very well with minimal standards. Besides the previously mentions, on a need only basis for everything else, such as backtesting etc... in non software shop they are of VERY VERY limited value. Productivity is what matters ... and beisdes, no one likes the guy who makes lots of standards and makes there lives miserable.

Thinking about it again though I should probably reconsider my advice, the more standards you guys put in the more of a chance you wont deliver and the company will get desperate and hire a high priced whore like me to come in and get shit done and pay me lots! :)

    1) Nielson Ratings - They are total bullshit, the way those boxes are given out is ridiculous, and the way they sample is crazy. I would put money on it they have a 300 % margin of error.

    2) The move to Friday night - This was like saying u die now but we will let it be slow and painful. The core fandom will watch but the people that channel surf will not be home so they will not and ratings are guaranteed to fall, and cancelation is guaranteed. Wonder what brilliant Coporate Exec came up with this ... Fridays should be a night for re-runs only.

    3) Today all we do is market to the majority of morons (AKA the South and Midwest) no offens if u are from these places but most of the uneducated, Brittney Spears music loving, watch TV all day an do nothing with there lives people are from here. THey should not even be included in the tallies as on manhattite probably earns more money in a week that 30 of them in a year put together( ok exaggeration but has some truth to it)

In Closing, I admit Season 2 was not great, but Season 3 was good, and this season rocks. Somone should DDOS the damn UPN site, they deserve it ...

I'll never understand how doctors think they actually understand the human body, they always think they are right... it drives me nuts. If I say it hurts .. it really hurst! it's not mental!

A perfect examples of my last run in with dr is... I'm 25 years old with the problems of a 50 year old and everytime a new one hits me the doctors take forever to believe me and then I usually end up having to figure out what I have and force it down there throats until they come to the same conclusion themselves ... The latest one in my shitty annoying illnesesses is a herniated Disk in my back between L1-L2 ... Since the pain was in my back and front, the doctors (not just one, but many) all assumed I had intestinal problems, or kidney problems ... no one wanted to listen to me that it hurt more depending on the way I moved until they stuck enough poles up my ass and could not find a thing and did an MRI on my Lumbar spine. This took (9 months!)

One bit of advice for Doctors (and Programmers). STOP BEING SO DAMN EGOTYSTICAL! computers and the human body are very very complicated machines, u ain't always gonna be right and shoudl look at all the syptoms of the problem and LISTEN to the patients (or users)...
