2-step authentication from Google still requires a cell phone. For anyone who does not own a cell phone (such as myself), it is major hurdle to upgrading the security on my account.
It is a shame google does not sell SecurID or similar key fobs for those who want security, but don't have a cell phone.
"How Will Steam on GNU/Linux Affect Software Freedom?"
It won't. You'll still be free to buy or not buy steam games for Linux.
Just because some people charge money for closed source software that runs on a free operating system, that does not mean you are forced to use that software. It is only when you are forced to used closed software is your freedom impacted.
Try using Windows 8 in a Virtual Machine. Moving the mouse into the lower left corner is impossible when doing so moves the mouse out of the vm window. Added bonus: My keyboard lacks a Windows Button.
Not to mention the majority of people who need hearing aids are of an age group that qualify for Medicare, and thus don't have to pay for them. In other words:
So does this mean I can put a sticker on my car that says:
"By Reading this Bumper Sticker you agree to the following Terms and Conditions: In the event of an accident the operator of this vehicle shall be held harmless for any damage or personal injury incurred to any person involved. I lump eBay sellers as small businesses... very small businesses with a very small inventory.:-P
I too hate the Paypal only nature of eBay. These days if I want something off eBay (which is now rare, thanks to Paypal) I contact the seller and offer to mail them a check.
Every week I read about how some small business got burned by Paypal. However I have yet to encounter any business willing to drop Paypal and use the competition.
Petitions and strongly worded blog posts will not change Paypal's behavior. Only thing that matters is lost business.
The authorities need to at minimum wait until the suspect has acquired the explosives/poison/guns.
I would rather live in a country with the minimal risk of being killed by a terrorist than live under the constant risk of being being arrested for knowing the wrong things.
If SOPA/PIPA dies in Congress, it is not because the people rose up to oppose the terrible legislation. It will die because enough corporations spoke up opposing it to outnumber the supporters.
The guy who built this house attended my LAN party last month. He brought his girlfriend. She is real, and plays games. Yes, you can have the best of both.
Seems to me it would be far more effective for states to stop relying so much on sales tax and move to other areas of revenue such as property and income tax. In the event of a national sales tax, it won't be long before the federal government decides to keep the money and the states need to make up for the shortfall elsewhere anyway.
Dear Microsoft, you don't innovate by rent-seeking. This is why no one cares what you are doing anymore. You have become irrelevant, like the other tech giants before you.
Better to go to the polls, and vote third party or for yourself in as a write-in for every position, rather than not voting at all. You get the same effect, but send a message that proclaims "I am unhappy with the two-party system". Besides, if you don't vote, you have no right to complain.
This is the kind of thread I save my Mod points for...
Awwww crap I posted.
"Class actions are less about justice but revenge."
Justice, punishment and revenge are nearly impossible to tell apart.. especially in the US judicial system.
Funny is more important than math. But I'll gladly issue a patch:
If ( PirateRate <0) {
logerror("Sales should never exceed delusional expectations. Recalculating...");
ExpectedSales = ActualSales*10;
return CalculatePiracyRate(ExpectedSales, ActualSales);
}
1 - ((Number of sales title actually got) / (Number of sales title the studio wanted to get)) = Piracy Rate.

Lets just say it's more than a minor annoyance.

Thank you. I'm glad someone said it. Especially because you posted anonymously.
Anonymous speech is as old as the written word.
I could have sworn it was getting taxed on the .01% interest earned on my savings account that made it hard to save money.

I deleted my Paypal account six outrages ago.

This is the funniest thing I have read all week. I thank you.

Eventually people will be arrested for downloading how to jailbreak their phones, how to remove DRM, and how to bypass region locked DVDs.

I have the sudden urge to start buying antiques on Ebay, declaring them fakes, and having them destroyed for a full refund. Wash, rinse, repeat.
Then I post pictures of the destroyed treasures on the internet. Its like snuff films for antiquities dealers.
