How many of these rights that haven't been infringed on in the past 12 months?
I've had mine for about 4 months and I still love it. I'm using the crow rom which runs from the SD card instead of a ramdisk. Resume is a bit pokey, 5 seconds or so before you can actually do anything with it. Stable as hell, there's been a couple of times when it's gone wonky. Haven't found a really usable compiler tool chain for it, and haven't gotten a cross-compiler setup on one of my other systems yet. I've got apache, php, and mysql running nicely, though without the options I would have chosen if compiling them myself. Battery life could definately be better, about an hour of hard use with wireless, 4 hours taking care not to drain it too fast, off and on usage for me goes about a week without charging. So far all the browsers I've tried are adaquate for occasional usage, but run into problems with anything complex. All in all, it feels like the ultimate evil genius tool. Tend to giggle when bringing up a mysql prompt on a text console with the realiazation that everything is running local.
The Windows TPC benchmark was on last years hardware (IBM xSeries 370, released last year).
The Oracle TPC benchmark is on next years hardware (HP ProLiant DL580R - not available till May 2003).
Err... are you talking about the TPC benchmarks refered to in the links? Both were run on 8 ProLiant DL580's with a total of 32 Xeon 900s. The Linux setup is marked in the full disclosure as being available March 5 2003, Hardware available now.
Tried to fire it up on my notebook, not expecting much with the i81x video, but-
Q: I have a working, hardware accelerated OpenGL setup, but when I try
to run the game, I get a message on the console and in my logs that
says something like "OpenGL renderer relies on DXTC/S3TC support".
A: Your drivers do not support the "GL_EXT_texture_compression_s3tc"
extension. This is needed to play the game. THIS IS NOT A UT2003
BUG. Currently, the only working drivers we are aware of that
support this extension on Linux are the official Nvidia binary-only
drivers. We are currently exploring options with other driver
vendors, and we are willing to cooperate with any driver vendor that
wants to support ut2003. The bottom line, however, is this: if you
want to play the game right now, you should pop an Nvidia card into
your machine.
Guess I'll have to get up off my ass and use the desktop.
I've got OSX running (well, limping) on an 8500/120 without a g3 upgrade using Xpostfacto. Extremely stable, and feels like it needs ram more than a cpu bump.
Just tried deleting \program files\windows media player. File protection kicked in.
'Files that are required for Windows to run properly have been replace by unrecognized versions. To maintain system stability, Windows must restore the original versions of these files.'
Thank you. Basicaly just remove 'HIDE' from the appropriate entries in \winnt\inf\sysoc.inf. Unfortunately I just tried it and it doesn't seem to do anything but give a check box to uncheck. After unchecking, I did a reboot, and lo and behold start-> programs-> accessories-> entertainment-> media player still exists, runs, and shows the same version (6.4.09.1117). Checked under add/remove windows components, and media player is unchecked. Next trick is to delete \program files\windows media player\ by hand and hope file protection doesn't kick in.
Still doesn't change the annoyance that Microsoft is changeing the EULA for Windows 2000 2 years after the fact, by inserting the changes in a critical security update. <quote> To the extent that any terms in this Supplemental EULA conflict with terms in the applicable OS Product EULA, the terms of this Supplemental EULA control solely with respect to the OS Components. </quote>
On Windows 2000, SP2, SRP1, +assorted hotfixes, WiMP is indeed _not_ there, neither under windows components, nor under currently installed programs. Media Player 6.4 very much is still under start->programs->accessories->entertainme nt.
Has any body else actually read the EULA that comes
with the media player 6.4 patch?
Digital Rights Management (Security). You agree that in order to protect the integrity of content and software protected by digital rights management ("Secure Content"), Microsoft may provide security related updates to the OS Components that will be automatically downloaded onto your computer. These security related updates may disable your ability to copy and/or play Secure Content and use other software on your computer. If we provide such a security update, we will use reasonable efforts to post notices on a web site explaining the update.
Security update? Who's security are they protecting? There is no option to uninstall media player. Your choices (if you wish to continue using Windows) are
A: Leave your system open to bugs that give system level access to the next worm (imagine nimda with a malicious/default.htm)
B: Bite the bullet and install the patches. But if Microsoft releases an update that silently and without notification installs itself and 'disable(s) your ability to... use other software', you're SOL. But hey, it's ok. Don't you know Microsoft is supporting 'Trustworthy Computing'?
NON COMMERCIAL USE ONLY. You may install and use the Software only with a PlayStation 2 Computer Entertainment System. You may not copy, modify or transfer the Software and its accompanying manual. Nor may you sell, rent, lease, or otherwise transfer the Software, its supporting documentation, or works derived from the Software, and except as otherwise provided by law, you may not reverse engineer, decompile, distribute, or disassemble the Software.
Not allowed to modify? Does this mean no kernel recompile?
If I remember correctly, IBM's older AS/400s have a simillar 'feature'. If they aren't powered up at least every three months or so, they lose their registered status and the operating system is supposed to require reinstallation. Mmmm, need to fire up the 9404 this weekend, the house was getting a bit chilly.

As for the ease of configuring Windows, sure, it's real easy to set up. Badly. Tell me, are these inexpensive employees who can't install Samba going to be able to tell you if you're exposing the IPC$ share to the world? If you're allowing case-insensitive LANMAN passwords? Sounds like the guys running Microsoft's routers.
Not even going to comment on the 'supports unattended installations...provided the configuration settings are correctly specified.'
And now I can't get to www.microsoft.com!!! It's been hacked!! err, oops.

Actually, fired up my ol' stinkpad that I keep around for such emergencies, and it comes up ok in Internet Explorer. But I used to be able to get to it from netscape. How long has it been broken for non-MS users? Same error on Linux, Irix, Solaris.
Wouldn't fractional distilation work? Run all the
bits and pieces through a grinder, heat to just under 2856degC, then to just over and condense
the gas?

So, since I can get to this site via RoadRunner, will Warner Brothers be suing Time Warner Cable?

No joke there. I swear, Microsoft won't be happy until their TCP stack is as bad as NETBEUI.
