Boies should be attorney General instead of Ashcroft, but is too smart to take the pay cut.
That rotten judge Thomas Penfield Jackson. His indiscretion cost the whole world global domination for one company. If he would have kept his mouth shut, none of this would have happened.
Jackson's findings of fact were correct, Bill Gates and other Microsoft execs lied in court, and Microsoft should be broken up--period.
Ken Starr could crucify Gates over his testimony if he could put forth as much effort as he did over Clinton's perjury. Put Gates on trial, that's my solution. I bet Boies would do it pro bono if Ellison and co. sent him a few briefcases full of cash.
If I was a Microsoft investor, I would say, "Yeah, don't participate." Sitting on the sidelines, however, makes it easier to call this one what it is--a guided missle straight at the heart of Microsoft's applications strategy.
Just watch out for a fake campaign by some bogus coalition of MSFT sympathizers to come up with multiple alternates to whatever is settled on for the standard. Mocking Microsoft wouldn't be any fun without unnecessary competing standards.
An even more frightening conglomerate that has been secretive about its profit by segment is major league baseball. When the contraction idea was being put forth earlier this year, the executives of MLB were trying to tell us that many teams were in danger of losing money. They don't make their figures clear and apparent even though they have anti-trust exemption.
Many public and (taxpayer-funded) private universities get into exclusive distribution agreements with soft drink (and food) distributors in exchange for contributions.
Then there's Microsoft.

Mike Myers was introducing another segment of "Germany's most disturbing home videos" when his computer was found inoperable, lying on the ground. He turned it over to find....Ants!
No. That's not how it works in a democracy, or most republics for that matter.
When free speech and freedom of expression interfere with others' rights, they are rightly subject to dissolution.
When organizations try to protest a group (whether it is a genetic engineering conference, world bank meeting) or individuals (abortion clinic patients) from engaging in their rights by preventing their freedoms, it does not serve the public interests or help anyone's personal liberties.
Another strike against Firefly this week is that in the Minneapolis-St Paul area, the broadcast was delayed until late nite hours due to the local (and overdone) coverage of the Wellstone plane crash.
It is widely known that animals react strangely before substantial seismic activity.
Perhaps scientists should get their heads out of space and hook up animal shelter's life signs to computers to monitor unusual symptoms on a macro scale.
Cats get all squirrelly before major quakes, which was evidenced by the doubling of lost pet classified ads in San Francisco papers leading up to the 1989 quake.
I never got into the show, but understand why other people did. It's a decent show and probably should continue.
There is always hope. HBO has a rather good record of picking up shows of meritable creative content that do not get network/cable support from the cronies that run them. Maybe you could redirect or cc your support mail there.
Could it just be possible that I DO NOT EVEN KNOW Any of the album titles from the pirated mp3's I own. Even if I knew the albums from the songs I stole, I wouldn't buy them.
This is a victory for P2P. The more the United States congress thinks they have done something substantial that isn't, the better off the file sharers will be.
This will not have a chilling effect on P2P at all. The first human face put on trial for this will inspire a journalistic feeding frenzy, particularly if he looks like you and me or the neighbor nextdoor, especially if he is filesharing documents such as "Declaration of Independence.txt " or "United States Constitution.doc"
Oh, my God! Did I just type Windows file extensions?!?
that requests that you fax your interest back to them.
Step 1) find black construction paper at your workplace. Step 2) write "Stop Spamming" in stencil on white paper Step 3) Cut out message and tape to black construction paper Step 4) fax back message that uses a shitload of recipient's fax toner
How about getting the following the foundation for a high-tech economy?
1)-access to energy 2)-fair judicial system 3)-clean water 4)-enough food for its people 5)-uncorrupt governance 6)-educated people 7)-freedom of expression
No amount of friendliness towards business or incentives for technology will overcome these more basic barriers.
Remember, revoking the ability to have news coverage of the actual event could dissuade otherwise respectable news organizations from attempting to scoop each other by accidentally acquiring and disseminating ILLEGAL information for someone else's leverage in financial markets.
If the famous Microsoft deal had been leaked back when Jobs took over, there would have been financial mayhem if someone acquired the inside info. If I remember right, the stock doubled the day of the announcement.
Apple legal probably came to the (justified) conclusion that not dissuading the rumor sites was a de facto invitation (i.e. liability) for their own employees to pimp their insider status.
Even the shittiest episodes of NYPD Blue are better than any Buffy episode. The show sucks; face it. Go back to buying your Britney Spears and Weird Al albums.
"MS turned the PC market into a commodity market."
Bullshit. Pick up a book, troll.
Compaq and Netscape and AMD and Cyrix and USB (Apple) turned the PC market into a commodity market.

Do not acquire from user MovieMogull. He is a mole wanker.
But user M0vHax0r is ok.
Let's all use our better judgment here.
The really interesting part will be to see which video drivers are chosen to be shipped native with the OS.
Just my humble opinion.

Choice 2 was against.
Still, someone managed to vote for Pat Buchanon.

I don't trust the BBC. I'm waiting for Al Roker's take on all this.
The worst part is that kids will get a day off from school that I had NO CHANCE of getting off.
