Does anybody know what the battery life expectation is for these devices? I'm assuming I'm not looking at the 3 months or so I get on my old Palm Pilot, but Its about time to upgrade (touch screen problems).. I'm curious to see what the usability of these devices are.
What are the alternatives to the silly "start" menu? Has the Evil Empire finally made something to compete with the Palm?

I'm not particularly concerned about anonymous demographic tracking, what concerns me is personally identifiable data warehousing, and I don't trust TiVo, Replay, MS, etc.. to draw that line for me.

Why is that we as a society will allow a corporation to accumulate a great deal of information about individuals, and trust them to protect that info? I don't think anyone would be comfortable with a neighbor keeping track of your schedule, viewing habits, SIN, etc.. and then trying to sell you Amway products based on that information, yet when a large corporation (made up of countless individuals) does it, it's not such a big deal?

Personally, I view it as my duty to clog the data-warehouses as much as possible- I fill out web forms with random info, and have safeway cards for Don T. Botherme and Anita Prawduct.

The same is true for paper junk- Sure I dont mind one flyer coming through the mail slot, but If I got 27 copies of the same flyer, you can bet I'd be pissed.

Every new technology creates potential 'crimes' and causes shifts in revenue models. The rate of these changes seems to be happening a lot faster now than in the past, and it is difficult for large lumbering Corporate Megaliths to adapt quickly enough.

    1) don't post drunk

    4) MOST IMPORTANT- Stay the hell out of the PC/Mac Holy wars..

The G4 Looks better than the PC, Has an WAY better monitor, and A WAY crappier mouse and keyboard (whatever happened to form following function... A Round mouse?)

I love the new G4, BUT.. The price they paid to Apple for the IDE DVD, Ram, Etc, was WAY above what you can find it around this town.

Hell if I personally had a large budget to burn at my year end.. I would buy a few of these, but I'm approaching this from the point of view of my own personal machines.. I get the parts and put 'em together myself. I had a Power book that the LCD ribbon cable snapped on, and it was hell getting the part out of an Apple dealer, so that I could fix it myself, rather than pay them for the labour on an old machine out of warranty..

.oops, looks like that 'Rant Lock' key is sticky.. Need a new keyboard.. Maybe one of those AOL freebies :)

I would love to see what someone could do with a film adaptation of this book, although I worry that with many adaptations, the translation to film just doesnt work out.

Seems to me to be definately on of the grandfathers of modern Sci-fi..

BTW- In the collection of Stapledon books I read, at least one entire chapter of "First and Last Men" was edited out completely.. It was published during the Mcarthy era.. Ah well..
