It's also to help people transition...would you be more likely to go vegetarian or vegan if you can continue eating familiar-tasting foods? It's also a good option for people trying to reduce calories (obesity is still a huge problem...pun intended.)
For me, i enjoy the occasional veggie burger or Gardein 'chicken nugget' because it's a fun, different flavor and texture. I'm not trying to eat 'chicken', and would also be fine if i never had it again. There's no doubt we enjoy certain flavors. If it can be done without harming another animal, why not?
Here is some evidence: they have a $30 million annual budget (at least a few years ago, haven't looked lately), and millions of members. An email to members in the area would probably be all it takes to find a home (with some screening of course). Shelters run on a fraction of a fraction of their budget, yet have significantly higher adoption rates (both in sheer volume, and percentages).
When you start looking into what PETA does, and all the killing they endorse (like giving an award to a mouse trap that used gas to kill mice, or a special pot to boil lobsters in, or that they have 'moratoriums' on protesting places like McD), the fact is PETA doesn't oppose killing animals - they oppose killing animals without their *permission*. That's what their track record is, at least.
Thankfully this is tagged 'funny', but two points: you might want to look up the definition of 'solely', after researching that bacteria produce B12 (not 'meat'); and what other vitamins do we need to supplement with, as you made it plural? (And if you do your B12 research well, you'll find a lot of omnivores also need to supplement B12, even tho they're getting it from animal products.)
I don't think we have enough data to really make a decision...what happens to the cardboard lid under increasingly harder impacts? (And what's the data for bike helmets?) In a bike crash, there may be more than one impact (head could hit the ground several times) - once the cardboard is compressed, how does it behave? How does it handle under a shearing blow? Could it be torn off one's head?
Not saying there's no place for this, it may be the future of helmets, but i think a lot of research has gone into existing bike helmets, and i don't know if this inventor is really considering many, or most of the factors, other than a single impact...
Yes and no..it would knock out the US as a market, and hopefully other countries would follow. We have to start somewhere..nothing else is going to end it overnight either.
I'm sure most of the lawyers are vegans, and already speak up for them as well. Keep in mind that a victory for any other species opens the door for the rest - including farm animals. If a chimpanzee is granted personhood, and a pig is nearly as smart as a chimpanzee...you can see where this goes.
Bear in mind these are dependent beings....not unlike a child or elderly person. They both have rights as well, but we don't 'let them go in the wild'. (Queue jokes..;) We care for them, as they're unable to care for themselves.
The point of the lawsuit is not as focused on current animals (all of whom are dependants), but more-so for future generations (free-living/wild chimpanzees). If granted personhood, they wouldn't be used in the first place, and animal sanctuaries would be needed less, and demand for them (poaching, breeding) would fall. This way, they wouldn't be in zoos, in labs or other exploitative environments, and instead would be where they ought to be - in the wild.
heh - i usually 'Block' accounts that do Sponsored Tweets. I wonder if many others do that, and how those accounts would respond if they knew they were being blocked en masse...?
There really ought to be a way to disable/opt out of the t.co shortening..that's part of the problem. And i was fine with shortening URLs myself when needed... (Or able to choose who to use for this service..) Same thing when they disabled this for image sites....it's really frustrating and unfair; we should have a choice.
Well, keep in mind there are also athletes who want to push their natural limits without PEDs (Performance Enhancing Drugs) - this doesn't really leave them many opportunities (i'm from the cycling world, and have read heartbreaking stories of racers who opted out of doping to the ruin of their career, while dopers profit...)
There are other factors too, such as 'safe' limits for doping products. Everyone's going to want to push it even more of course... I'm in favor of clean sport.
I've had a lot of experience in sprouting (alfalfa, beans like chickpeas, peas, lentils, etc) - i'm going to make two batches from the same mix of seeds/beans, and place one beside my wifi router, and see what happens...
"Electrons in atomic orbits move without losing energy."
This intrigues me - wouldn't this, in essence, be an example of 'perpetual motion'? Wouldn't this prove, at least at this level, that perpetual energy is possible?
If you look up the definition of 'humane', it would preclude their use in labs in the first place...nothing about this is 'humane'. As for 'animal cruelty stories in the media' - this almost NEVER happens. And if it does get out, it's usually because of activists, not someone within the lab.
Funnily, with bicycles (and i believe motorbikes) the brakes and shifters are swapped between Canada/US and the UK/Europe. So while i'm used to using the left brake lever to activate the front brake, in the UK, it'd normally be set up to activate the rear.
Good point: maybe these things ought to remain on paper.

Last i checked...
^ mod up! Kinda funny tho: let's confuse them with these terms instead.
Not quite....i suspect the lack of ice might be due to climate change.

Well said, i hope this gets modded up.

It's all borked..please be sure to fix the scroll button, too. The scroll speed is different each time i log in!!

Err....isn't the TSA a government agency? It's not the airlines doing the screening, it's the US gov't.
Not all electricity comes from private corporations.. In BC, it's a publicly-owned entity, just as one example.
Now even microchips are falling for the Atkins/Paleo high-protein fad!
Tho rarely discussed, in the Arctic, sled dogs are also eaten.

Good to know, thanks for the correction!
