Oracle gets driven out of business because of this ordeal. Oracle the database is relicensed under the GPL, and becomes open source. Oh how sweet it would be.
My dream is to have 1 large wall in my living room function as my TV and computer desktop. I can picture a super large desktop, perhaps 4000x3000, with tons of apps up and running spanning the wall in front of me! Browser over there, spreadsheet up there, mp3 player down there, and Quake3 directly in front. I guess it would kinda be like Marty's future house from Back to the Future 2.
(Yeah its already possible with LCD projectors, but an LCD wall is much cooler!)
Actually, really funny that you mention "seizure-inducing". I remember a specific Max Headroom episode where they were battling against some evil dude that made a really flashy tv commercial that would induce seizures and hypnosis. Evil evil man. Don't worry though, Max caught the bad guy somehow.
When I was a very young geek lad, I had a TRS-80 color computer. After watching Max Headroom, I decided that I wanted my own max headroom. So, I layed awake in bed one night, excited about the prospect that there could be a slight chance that I could build a max headroom with my TRS-80.
The next morning, I tried. It was my first programming experience. It went something like:
10 say "hello, I am max headroom"
I couldn't figure out what "syntax error" meant, and my dreams of my own Max Headroom faded into the past.
man, you are definetely buzzword compliant! Synergies? Better jump in on the "ground floor", and take advantage of those "innovative e-strategy solutions". Yeah, definetely a nice "paradigm" they have going there. Must be nice to see things "outside of the box".
Although I don't care for AOLTW, I have noticed a common theme in all the articles I've read about the subject today... they all mention explicitly, "the merger should not have happened". Seems to me like a little fishy business going on in the media, especially with such a story breaking out on a Monday morning. Just be aware that this news may be a bit orchestrated.
Would it be stealing if I hopped in the car and drove it back to the police station?
Since this news is now out in the public, I'm sure the Washington DC police are already working on other secret plans for catching "the bad guy". Kinda like military technology documentaries (propaganda) that supposedly show the latest in military technology... fact is, they're showing the latest *declassified* information, which means they're already truly onto bigger and better things.
...the testing shows kids really aren't that different than adults...
Actually, I believe that statement would be more accurate as "the testing shows adults aren't that different than kids".
How many times do we hear that the average adult reads at a 5th grade level? (In a strange bout of irony, this post is written at a 5th grade level.) It makes perfect sense that the web is applied at the same level. Obviously, the study of how kids use the web is good insight into how adults use the web.
Its all about simple things. Shapes, colors, happy faces. Look at XP! The UI is all about bright colors and interesting fake 3 dimensional shapes that look like they were designed by a bunch of 5th graders with little tykes toys.
Regardless, the study's findings are interesting and should be looked at closely by web designers for insight about developing an effective web UI. After all, the important thing is to get your message across. May as well aim the message where it can be best understood.

Mother fucker, I didn't even spell "defense" correctly! Zoinks! Be back in a few... going to beat the crap out of myself.
So, this problem is caused by some experimental copy protection crap on the new Celine Dion CD. Who gives a crap!?!? If you're listening to Celine Dion, surfing the web on your Sony Vaioaoieoiuo, you deserve it. Simple. Celine Dion sucks, and your lame ass Sony computers suck too. You're getting what you paid for, welcome to it.
"Without download"... yeah, its probably just a stupid trick where they pop open a new window without toolbars (like spam), and then just display the "browser". The "browser" is really just another web page in disguise. Dirty trick, and boy, what an "enhanced user experience" that will be!
AOL: Take a look at Snow Journal. www.snowjournal.com. Features original content, ski industry news, and the most active ski related discussion board on the internet. I want to be filthy rich!
Good to hear Abit is on the top! I built a killer system based on the Abit KT7A, and its an awesome board! It has more options than I need, and they didn't make the BIOS friendly, which is good for us geek types that like to tweak. I plan on purchasing another ABIT board when I build my next system.
For those looking at a KT7A, it is an older board. However, the specs on Abit's site are outdated. As of rev 1.3, the board theoretically could go into the 2ghz neighborhood. I'm currently running a 1.4 t-bird.
Strong points (my own, not from the article):
1. BIOS tweaking, BIOS tweaking, BIOS tweaking. This board has the most in depth BIOS setup I've ever seen, with the ability to overclock your system in 1 mHz increments.
2. Stability, even at OC speeds.
3. Board features, such as 4 USB headers, chipset cooler, temperature sensors galore, plenty of fan headers.
It was stated that if 8 of the 13 root servers were destroyed, the internet would slow down?
Ummm... no. It wouldn't slow down. DNS resolution would stop. Thats it. Most users might think the entire internet came to a complete halt, but thats not the case.
Agreed... PostNuke is a very nice CMS and is maturing rapidly. Its definetely a case of successful open source development, which is in stark contrast to PHPNuke, from which is was forked.
Here's a guy that writes slashdot posts! Holy crap! Thats completely unheard of these days. He actually responds to slashdot posts, and puts 'em on his web site. Wow. Thats really amazing. Simply amazing.
Imagine this, even though its far fetched.

Old man: I remember back in my day, we had this thing called "broadcasting". Yeah, those were the days.
Actually, really funny that you mention "seizure-inducing". I remember a specific Max Headroom episode where they were battling against some evil dude that made a really flashy tv commercial that would induce seizures and hypnosis. Evil evil man. Don't worry though, Max caught the bad guy somehow.
Cheesy story ...

I read a similar article in the NY Post earlier today. http://www.nypost.com/business/46726.htm

How about a beowulf cluster of these?
I can't believe I just posted that.

My conclusion: Abit good.
I usually type in root@127.0.0.1 as the email address... let 'em clog up their own mail server.

Sounds to me like they're just quabbling over the name of the "black hole". These are our best and brightest?
