I have often thought of the stagnation of the mouse/keyboard as inptu devices in computing, it seems weekly there is some crazy new way of doing things proposed but most mouse changes are simple iterative improvements (adding buttons, removing the mechanical ball, etc) but a pointer that could transfer data with a strong metaphor like the description gives would be a revolution in computer-human interaction.

Of course it would have to be universally standardized, and would require standard data formats accross platforms. So it actually won't work that great. Of course if you have all SONY, MS, or equipment it will work great... but I bet the "standard" application will be about as good as cut-and-paste is in X between a GNOME app and an old Mosaic app.

THe first one was pure game, and the second had some minor story to it... for some reason I think the story to WW feels like an annoyance (the game would be better if it just left out all the ridiculous story that isn't important to play anyway)... OOT is actually good, I guess my complaint is that It didn't evoke that same awe that LTTP did for me what it came out.

I think its possible to have a situation like the original with just gameplay and no silly cutscenes and still have a good game. And while only a minor annoyance the silly stuff they bable about in WW doesn't and anything... I pay attention enought to figure out where to go, and then go play (haven't finished yet :)

But according to the car (its readout not my calculations) I got about 39-40 MPG durring the week, where as I calculate any where from 28-35 MPG on my civic.

Not a big increase, but It seemed like they could have done more to make little improvements, like according to the car the electric motor never assists unless your really heavily accelerating or going up an incline. also it turns the gas motro of at a stop light, but if you move again it wont turn it off unless you exceed 5 MPH, so if your in real bumper-to-bumper traffic the motro stays on, now I realize the design of the engine(s) probably makes it so the car can't move without the electric but it seems to me it would be morte asthetically pleasing to keep the gas off until you actually start moving faster than say 5MPH. (there would have been stretches of 20-30 minutes in traffic without the engine even running if that were the case for me.

all in all I would definatly consider a hybrid when I purchase my next car, but my milage expectations have been brought to earth.

With the internet and the "global economy" it makes NO sence to have a localized language, unless your a proprietary developer that doesn't want you code to have the longest life it could :)

You may think I am just saying this because I speak english so of course I think english should be the most used, but I honestly can tell you I would be quite happy to learn another language as best I could if english weren't the primary communication language for programming (and most anything really). I would obviously be severely inconvienenced, but no more so that maybe people whose software I use now.

Maybe the best choice would be to have translatable keywords for a language, because the syntax really doesn't match english in all cases anyway. Of course translatable keywords would become a nightmare quickly due to the severe limitation on variable names etc, for instance how could you ever choose a word and be sure the language wouldn't end up need that for "if" in some language you never heard of?

As far as different character sets, this becomes a non-issue as all software moves towards unicode and UTF-8 (or equivalent) encoding. Once that happens you can for get about worring about character sets (and its happening fast).

The more I think about it the more it occurs to me they could probably just switch all at once with out telling anyone and most people would stop complaining within a day or two. I mean really if the weather reports switched to SI for temp how long do you really think it would take you to get what is "hot" and what is "cold"? A week? Maybe speed limit signs would be a problem, but I doubt most people look at them anyway.

I think the dual system where you get both values hurts the system because you have no insentive to learn. And when you see an episode a day the uneveness really becomes obvious.

I hope the mini-series has the magic that the early show had, and they ridiculusness of the later episodes isn't present. It started to feel like the writers had no idea what to do so they just would set up absurd situations in the first few minutes and then have an even ore absurd solution that dragged on for the next 45 minutes. It was as you could take the segment in between the second and thrid commercial break and mix and match because it was the same stupid converstion that meandered away from the plot every episode.

So heres to a good mini-series, I think it was a little stupid the way they left the cliffhanger, as if they had setup a nice series endingm and POOF through in one last scene just to piss everyonje off at the cancellation, I hope they resolve it quickly (or start after it and make breif reference) and get on to a better story.
