That's not bloat, that's extra programs. You're complaining that there's a lot of extra software you can install? What sense does that make?
You want to talk about bloat, what's the minimum install size for XP? 1.5 Gig? What programs do you get with that? That's a hell of a lot bigger than the minimum install size for a Linux distro...
div#links/* The menu. Note, position isn't "fixed" because of IE. See below */ { position: absolute; top: 52px; left: 600; width: 160px; height: 700px; font: 16px Verdana, sans-serif; }
/* For IE. It ignores this line but it works in Mozilla. So IE users don't get the fixed menu but at least it looks OK. */ body>div#links {position: fixed;}
...leaves it fixed for IE, and absolute for real browsers;-)
When you say "we" I'm assuming you are part of that website. If so, I'd just like to point out the following:
As one of its main arguments, the paper brings up the fact that Linux was written out of modified Minix code - something which has been said by Eric S. Raymond, among others, as how it was made. However, it is accepted that there is no Minix code left in Linux.
AFAIK, Linux never used any Minix code. It was written when Linus was using Minix, but he might as well have used Windows for all the difference it makes. He used a computer to write the kernel. That's it. Just wanted to clear that bit up...
Probably too late to matter...(ahh, the transient nature of the web)...but...yeah, I'd rather google. That's cos I know what to google. I wouldn't trust a blind scipt (or, to maintain the metaphor, an ignorant person) to google for me.
It's like reading a man page. It's very useful if you know what it means (Catch22 style).
even doctors - essentially translate a list of complaints into a latin based "syndrome" and cross referance the necessary chemistry.
Whoa! Consider tech support. There are two types. The kind where you have someone who knows a great deal about computers, your OS, the various common faults and how to figure out the more complicated ones, or at least when to hand you off to someone more specialist.
The second type is the person reading from a script who haven't the faintest idea themselves what anything they're saying means.
At the moment there is only one type of doctor: the first type. They know roughly how your body works, what common diseases there are and are going around, and they can refer you to a specialist if need be.
Do you really want to introduce the second type? Have you ever had to deal with one of those helplines?! I won't trust my body to one of those till we've got perfect AI.
I think it's crazy trying to predict 30 years in the future unless as a sci-fi scenario.
I mean, if you'd asked me in 1974 what things would be like in 2004 I simply couldn't have guessed what we'd have now. Actually, I'd probably just have replied "Goo! Gah gah gah! Whaaaah!" but that's besides the point...
No, though SCO are trying to spin it that way. It's what Linus said: they tracked down where all the code came from by searching through old mailing lists. It worked, but it was difficult and time consuming. This will make the whole process easier if they need to do it again...
Who would have thought anything useful could have come out of this whole charade...?;-)
Andrea did some cool stuff. How come our high schools don't teach us how to:
I suspect the problem is that people expect schools to teach them everything. Most of the useful things I've learned in life weren't learnt in school...
I was really just pointing out that there was no firewall. Yeah, there were other ways around it. Point taken that 2000 wasn't supposed to be a home OS, but given that the choice was that or WinME, which would you have chosen?;-)
Does this actually mean anything? I mean, is there some point where the US has to pay this back, or could they carry on ignoring it? (I'm not from the US). If they had to pay it back at some point, I don't get how it could have grown so much....
Fishes is in the dictionary too but it's not really a fucking word. Idiots using the word forced it to become a word in the dictionary.
Where did you get this idea from? "Fishes" is certainly a word. Modern usage is that you use "fish" as the plural when speaking of one type of fish and "fishes" when you are referring to more than one species.

Actually, that's not as stupid as it sounds.....Nah, just kidding, it really is as stupid as it sounds.

AFAIK, the USB toothbrush doesn't require any drivers because it only uses the port for running/recharging.
Honestly, I thought you had to be kidding with that one...

I use "true"! (tried "false" but it kept failing...)
I was really just pointing out that there was no firewall. Yeah, there were other ways around it. Point taken that 2000 wasn't supposed to be a home OS, but given that the choice was that or WinME, which would you have chosen? ;-)
I was referring to the first article, not the second.
Since a few people have mentioned this: He was using Windows 2000. It doesn't have a firewall.
Wow! Just had a look at this....$7 Trillion?!

Fire away.
Excellent idea. I presume I get to choose which two, so I'll go for Gentoo and Mandrake. Shall I tell Redhat they've got to close down, or will you?
Guys with cybernetic enhancements who treat 70 pounds like it's 5 pounds don't get bullied...
Only people who don't understand the concept of the same word having two completely different meanings...
Looks like it might be Enlightenment (the Eterms certainly suggest that). Probably running on Linux.
Just to let you know (in case you don't check regularly) that MacGimp has 2.0pre available with free upgrade to full 2.0 on release...
