Keeping a man under custody or outrageous bail under nothing more than the theory that they have the power to do harm if they wished to do harm is a real nut job way of doing business. It would be another matter if the man were making threats that he would screw up the system. But punishing people simply because they have an ability is absurd. Can you picture a man being held under absurdly high bail simply because he is known to be a great shot with a gun? After all, if he wanted to kill someone he would be far more able to do it than most people. So what's next? Perhaps we need to take all arrestees to the shooting range to make sure they are bad shots before they are given bail.
There's no need to get paranoid about our current woes. The problems are twisted enough even if everyone has good motives.
The primary component is the devaluation of human labor due to computers and robotics. Go back to 1950 and the women stayed home. A simple job gave enough income for a man to support the house in the suburbs and family. No longer is that a reality. The women work as well as the men but their real earnings are usually too low to do much more than allow them to get back to work the next day.
As more and more jobs are eliminated the conflicts will worsen until society smartens up and adopts recommended solutions form the sociologists. But sticking with current beliefs and models will only assure that pain and suffering increase and that those afflicted become the overwhelming majority of our citizens.
Try this as a concept: Allow computers and robots to exist as a legal owner of a business with the restriction that all earnings are plowed back into acquiring more and better robotic and computer abilities for the firm. Watch as all of the money in the economy becomes absorbed and locked down by the company.
Although I am always grateful that we have brave soldiers who sacrifice so much for us I still must say that one need not even make it into the military to acquire brain damage. Simply having a desire to be in the military is proof enough that brain damage exists. Wanting to be in a combat position is proof of stark raving insanity.
Back in 1960 I had to have a meeting in the back room of a barber shop to buy a cheat book which provided the basics for hundreds of top forty tunes. I seem to recall that I paid fifty dollars which was a fortune at that time. Those old cheat books gave you very little and one had to constantly improvise and fill in the blanks to make a performance from the crude attempts that were made to represent the melodies.
When in school and college bands in the 1960 era we always played from the purchased scores directly. Copy machines in that era were simply not adequate to reproduce musical scores and the machines would not have handled the heavy weight papers used in the purchased products.
Yet we also had zero issues with students losing their sheet music. It would have been taken very seriously indeed and such a student would not have been tolerated in the band or symphonic programs.
There is no surprise at all that the numbers of workers needed by society is in decline. Computers and robotics have from the outset been promoted as replacements for human labor. One social solution that has been offered is for the government to send each of us a check and require some sort of gambling or investments such that some people would always "earn" more than others to preserve a social pecking order.
Right now the rich see no reason for most of the lesser classes to exist. From their point of view the masses tie up traffic and are no longer needed to supply them with labor. Now we are seeing high end professions starting to quake and break at the seams. CPAs no longer have a lock on accounting as software has eliminated many potential accounts. Doctors are at risk of losses due to computers and robots treating patients. Lawyers will take a hit soon enough as para legals with good software take care of legal issues. Fast food workers will soon be replaced with robotic devices. Cell phones have eliminated the need for an office girl in many small businesses and bank tellers are being usurped by machines. And you can bet your last penny that school teachers are about to bite the dust. Watch as eighth grade English is taught by one teacher covering the entire nation with only assistants in the nations classrooms.
This effect will snowball. Meanwhile our super dumb population splits between the rich who pretend that taxes will hurt them and the poor who notice less and less opportunities to get by. If you want the short course there is a real reason that we have people sleeping in the streets and bushes.
I would suggest that the real revolution is in idiocy. The masses in the US have gotten dumber and dumber and stranger and stranger for quite a few decades. When high school students in New Jersey can not identify the ocean that touches their shores can there be any hope of literacy? I knew one boy in the tenth grade who thought he was taking a class in psychology. In fact the course was in physiology. Go out in the street and ask people "Who was Samuel Johnson?" or "Who was Richard Savage?" and see what king of answers you get. Then throw out a curve ball and ask them to contrast the philosophy of Richard Wagner with that of John Paul Sartre for a real howl. Then ask them to name three famous authors from France, Germany, Hungary, Italy and China. You may begin to feel that even among college graduates literacy is absent or badly wounded.
I can see a need to be able to shut down the net in an emergency but getting it done wouldn't be so simple. For example suppose that some really potent software got lose that enabled bank accounts to be easily raided. A shut down of the net might save the national economy and give a bit of time to find a defense against the new malware. Or another need might be something like a sudden enemy attack where it is known that the enemy is using the net to direct weapons or reveal targets.
The basic point being that not all legislation is designed to somehow restrict our freedom or do us harm.
Venezuela has always had unusual problems due to the days when Spain established land barons and left large numbers living in dire poverty. Chavez may be doing things that actually need doing in order to establish society across all elements in the population. This is an area where ministers, priests and nuns have often been killed as the right wing considers Christianity as a tool of communism. Even though governmental policies there may seem strange or even offensive to us perhaps Chavez is a real boon to his nation.
Has Canada gotten so messed up that they actually believe the dead have privacy rights? If one slanders the dead do they spin in their graves? Perhaps we should send Viagra to the dead just in case they feel an urge.
If the surrounding earth really is at 16 degrees or less and you heat it you would be melting permafrost and your house might sink into the mire. Perhaps you are not using the Fahrenheit scale.
To start with normally crimes involve doing something wrong not in failing to do something right. Secondly if the man was fired and then asked to hand over a password he has no obligation at all to his former employer. If he was asked to reveal his password before he was fired and failed to do so then the remedy is to fire him and perhaps to sue him in a civil court. The fact that his failure to reveal his password was expensive to others is irrelevant. This man should sue for false arrest.

This almost sounds like science fiction in which the evil doctrine of capitalism is let lose to contaminate the universe.
If she was born with female organs she is a female. Some females may be more feminine than others but so what. Some men are more masculin than other men.
My spelling has been aided by the constant auto correction features of my PC. But my hand writing has gotten even worse than it ever was. When one doesn't need to write by hand the ability declines quite a bit.
Privacy is a lousy concept. If an utterance is made to another person then it is not a private matter at all. If I receive a communication from another person am I not free to make it as public as I wish?
In other words if people have their panties in a knot over potential harm from their words then don't speak or write them. The ultimate in privacy involves keeping your mouth shut.
Perhaps a defense of truth will be attempted to determine if in fact she is a skanky ho.
So after the dust settles are the supposed damages more than a penny? Then again maybe skanky hos suffer extreme emotional stress easily or something like that.
Prejudice afoot! What about leap frog? Why should we allow a preference for piggy back when leap frog can offer the same rewards!
Sure, now all we must do is to cross breed the average Hindu with sheep and sit back and wait to grow new power plants!
I'm shocked that the military would talk about this new technology.

Plastics have value. Net it and recycle it or turn it into fuel.

Loudly accusing someone of theft in the workplace when in fact no theft has occurred just might be enough to sue somebody into the next century!
We have entered an era in which dead heads will have increasing difficulties. I suppose that is why windoze machines exist.
Perhaps a nasty plague or two might enabled national health care to get really important to the right wing clowns.
