What I do not understand is the technology that allows a file that is 8 or 10 megabytes to download so quickly at times when other times are slow.

But we will enter a whole new space in relation to this issue. Yes, some private software will always be profitable. However the real wolf in the closet will be computer generated software or Genetic programming as AI is sometimes called. As human programmers advance and write more and better programs you can bet your last penny that machines will be deployed that will beat the socks of of anything we can create. Programmers will function more as glitch correctors than in the traditional mode of work.
That means that a lot of current computer professionals will be kicked to the curb as obsolete. Yet others will have just the right combination of training to demand very high wages.Companies will compete more in the way that Japanese car companies compete. The companies with the best (most exotic) machines will be able to create the best programs and therefore will make superior returns on their investments.
We are now in the stone ages of programming.The real universe of computing is about to dawn upon us. The shock of it all may be hard to take.
Being a walking encyclopedia does not decline with age. But older people do need to think about one thing at a time whereas young people can chatter, worry about a girl friend and work at the same time. Older people also lose the ability to think in layers, the way one might in solving an algebra problem involving several distinct steps.
But don't sell older people short. Now and then, because their minds are quieter, they can have piercing insights revealing things that others pass right over.

Equating consciousness with a soul is certainly a huge leap in logic at best. Are we to believe that a person knocked unconscious whether temporarily or permanently suddenly loses his soul? I think that violates the fundamentals of every major religion that exists or has ever existed.
First I would like to do something unusual and thank you for being a college student. Going to college means that you will probably be part of the solution rather than simply being another chowder head clogging up traffic.
What your school needs to do is simply get rid of the schools net. Let the school post to the internet and let the students operate their own nets, both large and small. That way the school can comply simply by not operating a net. And the various student nets can be anonymous to a degree that there is nowhere to send a subphoena and no deep pocket to pick.
I've met a few big time country musicians and they seem like the most wonderful people in the world. Another thing the public sometimes fails to grasp is that many of these musicians have huge technical talents.
Funny, it seems to me that the major function of government is to extract money from the working classes and give it to the lazy. Quite a few people are really tired of supporting Wall St. brokers and bankers.
The multiple universe theory may explain some human feelings. Many religions hint of other universes but express it differently. Religions often teach that we live in universes in a serial pattern rather than living in endless universes at the same time.
I strongly believe that I am in several universes and that although we are not allowed to be aware in a focused way that we can feel events or situations mirroring through several universes.
For me there is no need for lite weight lap tops. I don't run through airports. I could make use of a lap top that weighed thirty pounds. But I want power and really bullet proof construction.
The point is that nobody gets what they want. We are all stuck with what the manufacturers consider a typical consumer product or if we want something just a bit different we are expected to pay and pay and pay!
