  1. We're the top of the food chain on 4 Tons Of Plants per Mile to Ride In Your Car · · Score: 1

Isn't this just implied by being a the top of the 'pyramid'? So how many 'trees' does the average wolf consume in a year? Maybe it will help if we stop the wolves from eating meat?

    Yes this is a troll.

But a troll against fuzzy statistics.

  2. Just take the game out on The Trouble with MMORPGs · · Score: 1

Are these really *games*? Chess is a game, it is infrequently re-invented but continues to have a rather significant fan base. All of these online games and video games are more like a movie, need a new director every few years.

The MMPORGIES(sp? :-) need to be more like sitcoms or no actually more like interactive soap operas. No one cares how many kill points, they care how you use them on a buddy that they want to play a practical joke.

Go find LambdaMoo, get a character, there are a couple thousand folks that have been mooing for over a decade. It's more than a chat room, more than a game, less than real life. (no reverse that ;-)

  3. Total secrecy, zero privacy on Watching You · · Score: 3, Funny

Get used to it. You may keep selected keystrokes perfectly secret if you are willing to do all the work and keep your passphrase secret to the death (assuming no truth serum gets to you first) but everyone already knows what you did on TV and they all really care less and less. Set up a webcam in your bathroom, the hit will approach zero over time.

Clearly we are a subversive crowd, WOO!

The business community does not get it. And they will PAY!

There are so many misunderstandings in the first paragraph, really someone should get a paper letter to the editor, I'm sure they discount anything from email.

    very very funny.
    very infamous.

  11. Opera has been doing this for years on The Trilogy as One · · Score: 1

Extended performances are not infrequent in the world of opera, Gotterdammerung the Wagener Ring Cycle runs about 18 hours total, this is usually over four days, but one of the operas runs six hours. There is a Phillip Glass opera (Einstein?) that usually ran over 3-4 days that had a marathon full day run. Some of the naysayers should consider LoTR as a slightly different kind of art form.

  21. Re:A better stat on Shuttle Politics · · Score: 1

Actually I think both of us are wrong.

Or rather, neither statistic (per mile, per trip) are sufficient to make a valid comparison between 'modes' of transportation. Car accidents are much more likely within 5 miles of home (something like that, I'm not chasing references). And should it be vehicle miles, person miles, per overhaul? Perhaps a group of stats would give some insight into the comparison.

I often say that one is safer on any plane than walking in a major city. But is that accurate? Not sure how to make a rigorous case.

  22. A better stat on Shuttle Politics · · Score: 3, Funny
