Hmm... on second thought... an ANSI/text periodic table from text adventures like zork, hitchhikers guide and nethack or rogue might be interesting...

Yeah, we got a large AS/400 machine, named it death-star... it replaced our old Oracle database server named Alderaan (spelled wrong, though)... and it went down once during a query from one of the dmz web transaction servers and caused it to blow up too. That one was called Endor!

Geek 1: Dammit! Deathstar isn't responding!

Geek 2: Fuck! It took Endor with it...

We nearly died laughing (us developers didn't have to *maintain* the servers... just write code for them).

  9. Nah, they understand perfectly on Wine Continues To Move Towards License Change · · Score: 1

Don't fool yourself... they know exactly how the GPL and LGPL work. Gates, Ballmer and crew (not just microsoft) know what we're all about. Their public statements are carefully crafted FUD put together by a team of highly paid PR people.

If everybody doesn't know that, well, they should.

It is vital to them that they maintain the "common belief of corporations not being able to use GPL'ed code" because wider acceptance would surely put a dent in their business model.

This isn't (necessarily) just to bash on closed-source developers... it's certainly to their credit that they have such a thorough and accurate understanding of the software market, and the minds of software consumers in general. That's true both for professionals and home users.

Maybe we can learn a lesson from them and find a way to push WINE (or any open source for that matter), and still play a clean game...

Besides, it's a welcome break from the crap IT work that is commonly available now.

Hey, I lived in a cabin in Alaska... it was a great and beautiful experience.

I recommend Fairbanks (perhaps on exchange with University of Alaska in Fairbanks) and getting a cabin near campus, but not too near. Rent varies between $150-$400 a month (no kidding).

I also recommend a laptop. It's like having a UPS built into your computer, and you can still surf on your modem during power outages (not that they are common, but still...). If you can survive an Alaskan winter in a cabin and still be a geek, than you've experienced a remarkable thing indeed.

Plus the local university has a LUG, so there are always people to drink beer with!

Check out above article (for the update), or go straight to LWN for the other side of the story, where supposedly 'the number of affected people is said to be "around a couple dozen."'
Linux Weekly News's coverage is woefully short, but there is an e-mail from a SuSE employee on the SuSE mailing list posted as "confirmation"...

Check fraud and bad credit debt come to mind immediately...
