Proper situational awareness on a construction site does not permit "peace and quiet" either, unless you 're in the trailer taking your coffee break, and even then you probably should be conscious of what is happening outside unless you want to share the same fate of those propane tanks that are about to explode.
Sorry, the idea is ludicrous on many fronts, and I can hardly take it seriously. All you will see on the internet would be cat pictures. We are supposed to keep it open. Censorship is evil.
Yeah, but the running gag is this 35 and 70 billion dollar "valuation" scam, which is phonier than a three dollar bill. How can anybody believe this shit? It has to be just the number the taxpayers will pay out in the next set of Wall Street Bailouts... Once again we are being set up as pansies during an election year grift.
I was relaying other peoples' complaints about the costs.
But now I am finding out that cash or credit, we all subsidize the industry. Turns out that simple credit card theft is very profitable for more people than just the thief. You may think you aren't paying for it, but just the opposite is happening, we all are. Ask yourself why the banks are dragging their feet in securing the system.
Having lived through and remember the era of phone company monopoly
Me too... That's why I don't want the judges to give in to these companies' frivolities. What makes internet "duopolies" any better? Common carrier, public utility, and competition are all steps in the right direction. What have I posted to contradict that?
Ah, so even without using a card, I am subsidizing the business. Another question, does the bank require you to keep a certain minimum amount of cash in your account? Used to be that way when I had one, is it still so? If not, maybe I can see the advantage.
There is no end to your hatred of the cable companies and no end to the means you will go to to destroy them, is there?
Wrong again. I want to make them have to compete, and to be declared a public utility. Nothing about destruction there. Their lawsuits are clearly frivolous, but their money and the purchase of legislation always buys them time.
You know those people who make up cable companies are part of the democracy that gets to participate, don't you?
They are purchasing and receiving special privileges, not participating in the democratic process. They are super-predators and thugs. I only want a balance of power.
No, I don't have one. I remember reading that a lot of people were complaining about them. Are you telling me you pay none at all? All your bank sheets only indicate the amount of the transaction, with no "miscellaneous" anything? Well, if the vendor is paying them, then it's in the price.
As nobody is paying _me_ a large sum of money for doing so, I have zero interest in doing this though.
Whoa! Like, did you even read? You put a fat reward on it, and somebody will have greater than zero interest, and will eventually succeed, within a reasonable amount of time. I thought that was spelled out in the post. Oh well, That's what I get for thinkin'..
Thank you for your participation... It was most enlightening.
I must be talking to the owner of the Titanic, or was it the Towering Inferno?
CC fraud in the US is more likely an inside job. We should be very suspicious of all these stories about hacks and breaches into their systems and so-called "stolen" money, such things make very effective electronic "drop points". They leave the door open and tell the cops someone came and stole all your shit. Every little glitch, "Oops, so sorry, your balance has been corrected. By the way, we are raising our fees a bit to cover our new 'anti-fraud' features." We know the nature of their business.
You still pay for them. It's just another pretext to raise fees and interest. You are paying a very high tax to use your money, or even if you don't use it. Convenience at any price, I guess.
We need to demand that any judge who gives the cable companies more than the time of day should be impeached. Like the Rocky Horror Picture Show, democracy requires audience participation to be effective.
That means if Congress won't do it, the courts have even less business doing it.
I don't care how it is done. It just must be. Time to push the blockage out of the way. The companies have even less business writing the rules than the courts. It is time for us to write the rules, and if we have to, use the courts to do it. The ends justify the means.
You wish for a patchwork of internet regulation on a state-by-state basis? What a minefield that would be.
Then make it federal. That's the way it should be anyway to avoid that very thing. Hell, the president should sign an executive order to make it happen. If not, let's demand it from the Supreme court. The imperative is there. It's up to us to enforce it. Or you can spend the rest of your lives discussing it and get nothing done while prices reach for the sky. It's not complicated. Either you want proper internet service, or you don't. The technology is there waiting to be used. The singular impediment is human politics.
One of the reasons they don't want to be a public utility is that they want those censorship powers. If they had their way, all you would get is Facebook and Amazon.
This is a massive sector for unelected officials to rewrite.
It needs to be rewritten. It's past time to turn the internet (into a dumb pipe) and even cellular service into a public utility, just like the land line. If Congress won't do it, the courts must. And if they don't, we need to put the initiative on the ballot. We endure lousy service only because of public apathy.
We can always use this if anybody complains about us recording the cops, with a microphone and all. Make this a two way street, and it becomes a much smaller issue. *No privacy for me, no privacy for thee* Hope you like apples...

Aren't we getting a bit silly here? Maybe those people should leave their hard hats at home too, so they don't mess up their hair

the FCC was created to decide how this works, and Congress sees no need to intervene.
Unless the FCC fails to enforce the rules.
And we still need the judges to fine the companies for wasting the court's time instead allowing these cases to drag out.
Same difference
Then why are you trying to explain how they work?

lots of hardware out there that will instantly be made 'obsolete' by this policy.
Yes, it should make perfect sense then, right?

It's time for the Post Office to get back into it..
I am not liable for fraudulent charges.
You still pay for them. It's just another pretext to raise fees and interest. You are paying a very high tax to use your money, or even if you don't use it. Convenience at any price, I guess.

Please... Put your best system out in the wild with a big fat bounty and see how long it holds up.

Vote for the grownup in the room. Petulance can be a big problem in this line of work.
You gotta do both.
Nobody has any moral high ground left to call an end to it, which means it's an ever-escalating cat-and-mouse game..
Exactly. All bets are off. The baddest sociopath wins. But you do get points for subtlety. As they say, "blood is a big expense..."
