How many more people would complain if this had happened ten years ago, under a 'different president, hmmm? There's no point in bringing up our rights. Most people are perfectly okay with it... If you don't believe me, just watch the TV on the 8th of November. It will be all laid out in living color. 98% will vote against Apple...
And very good marketing. If they want to keep their customers, they won't weaken the protections. I still don't trust them, I'll wager they already broke into the phone and got what they needed. This story is marketing by the government to sell the fascism.
The ROM is already matched to the CPU on the same board, or even on the same chip. Isn't that kinda what an SoC is? I'm not sure what you mean. Text/graphics to a printer or video to a monitor are the same regardless of the CPU. I only question the necessity of caching to RAM on every power up, it should just be nonvolatile with everything already there, instantly ready to run. ROM can store a fresh image if something breaks. Something is horribly wrong when my router, printer, computer, phone takes two minutes to be ready to use.
How fast does it power up? This is one area of computers that makes absolutely no sense. If something can be stored, why can't it be stored in a ready-to-run state? Why aren't drivers on ROM inside each device? My radio comes on instantly, so should the damn computer. We're back to the days of having to wait for the TV to warm up, shouldn't be that way.
No, you *own* nothing, not even your body. We have abdicated all power to the state/corp. It operates with our full consent. The question of *ownership* is moot.
It's all coming together, nice and neat. Do they bother putting a real 'off' button on phones anymore? Since you can't remove the battery, how do you know?
Everyone is in the same stinking boat, and drinking the same shitty koolade.
It's really business. Most people just smell money. They don't see black or brown, just green. The dominant power always looks down on the rest as a threat, it really is natural, kinda baked in. When there is no real enemy, one has to be created.
Great, now show me the 'other' set of books... I kid... kinda..
Heh, checking out more recent figures (lord knows why you wouldn't link to them:-), looks like Homes brought the deficit spending down by almost 70% since he took office (p. 359? feel free to correct). It's very phony of course because of the Wall Street bailouts. When you exclude them, the deficit almost tripled since 2007, which may not be true either, since the bailouts are still ongoing, so the 'real' deficit might be hard to pinpoint. The whole thing is a fantasy anyway.
Anyway, your new number for defense is 3.6, more bang for the buck, where's the beef? Still, I wouldn't mind if they found that eight and a half tril, it's not exactly chump change.
Getting back to the story, let's all be happy that people are making censorship in Iran (and everywhere else) a little easier to circumvent. Freedom of speech is always a good thing, right?
This is a democrat administration doing this. Please make a note of it.
Who you gonna run to in November, eh?

So you create a burner/spam catcher account. Problem solved.
That's just as bad as blocking porn or pirate bay. It's censorship. I'll do my own filtering, if you don't mind.
The problem isn't the recording, it's the sending of that recording to the cloud.
Maybe the TV takes its commands from the cloud instead of directly from the remote.
They have a lot to hide, so they have to encrypt the campaign with the Fluffy Kitten/Kissing Baby cipher.

I approve this post. AC by accident...
Doesn't matter. All it should need is standard input. The ROM does the rest.
The moment you set something in stone is the moment you realise you fucked something up.
Who said the chip can't be replaceable?

is it actually *your* phone?

Are we supposed to prevent this from going through? "calling our representatives" certainly does not seem to help.
That's right. You have to vote them out. If it doesn't happen, I guess you're just going to have to live with it and adapt. C'est la vie...
When they *put up a fight*, is it for real, or a publicity/marketing gimmick while the press is paying attention?
If you want to fix it, you will have to vote out the entire House of Representatives and get the law changed. Otherwise move on to something else.
Close enough?
I don't have the numbers, but it's a lot...

I don't know, mandated back doors maybe?
Yes
They would need to image the secure microcontroller holding the key.
I have a hard time believing that can't be done already, unless there is an internal, on the die self destruct triggered by 'improper' access.
I assume they would image the drive first...
