    "Wealth of Nations" - Also pie in the sky. Lots of nice theories, few of which, just like communism, actually put into practice. Much of the world is suffering that now. Doesn't matter. In either case, corruption always has a direct relationship to proximity to power.

    I'm pretty sure that our Founding Fathers would NOT have supported this.

    Yeah, they probably would have. They already wiped out the 1st amendment with the Aliens and Sedition Act. The protection and authority of the state was first and foremost on their minds even back then.

    It was pretty easy back in 1860. Why should now be any different? Just convince them they are under attack, and they do anything you ask. Besides, the cops seem to have no trouble shooting their fellow Americans. A soldier is an even easier mark.

    That's just it. For the most part their concerns aren't valid. The government just wants to go on a witch hunt, and won't tolerate any interference. This is not the the main problem. The main problem is that we won't do anything about it and will reelect the same people who put all of this into place, as we have always done.

    Pure show. The constitution put all the old rules back into place and protected all the old institutions. And right off the bat, you got the whiskey rebellion, and a little further down the line, the Aliens and Sedition Act.. Your 'free republic' is a sham, an illusion, its success (from a specific POV) notwithstanding.
