You should not have to anticipate (and defend against) your device vendor turning against you
Should not, would not, could not... The thing is that you do have to anticipate for those things, and that isn't about to change anytime soon. So prepare and protect yourself the best you can. And vote for politicians that will legislate real consumer protection with teeth. We could start with mandating removable batteries in all devices, or at least be able to physically disconnect them from the circuitry. Unfortunately that is not the direction we are presently headed. I guess we just have to suck it up
Is somebody worried that the US, a country that is in hardly any position to complain about restrictions and censorship, might have to hold up its end of the deal?
The more things we have that become digital, the more we are going to have to start applying property rights to them.
Slippery slope alert... Just turn off automatic updates. And if the carrier turns off your signal, you can still use the wifi and you'll have a nice mini tablet..
But I'm not sure this is the place to express your sexual illusions, which seem rather banal, as far as that thing goes. You might find more action on one of those mating sites, with pictures. At least try to keep it on topic, eh?
Very simple. Congress gets more money from the NYSE... Good to see they have their priorities straight and acted so quickly. The concert ticket crisis has finally been resolved.
Intercept NSA/GCHQ communications and/or hack them back?
That is the best solution so far. We have to gain access to the same tools. Make them feel the same pain. I hope that will happen, but we have to produce something a bit better than tabloid material...
Who needs data when panic and speculation can drive the market up and down much faster and more reliably? Data requires long term investment. Panic can make or lose millions on any given day, or even any given moment (flash crash)
I think we can expect a lot more of these scams. Panic is a great motivator. And what better is there than the fear of Trump right now? Fun times ahead...
Let me expand on that a bit. If there were to be a law that makes blocking illegal, then yes we should be able to sue those who host malware. But since we can easily block it, then I don't see the need for that. The weak point is in the OS. That's their attack vector, it should be ours too
Actually, what would be best would be to make websites criminally liable if they deliver a malicious ad to your PC.
Yeah, we could do that, but personally, I hold the operating system responsible. I don't care how malicious the code is, the OS should run in protected ROM. So if we're going to start suing people, let's start with Microsoft and Apple, unless of course they decide to open up the source code... Going after the websites is a slippery slope, subject to political opinions as to what is "malicious".

What part of noted don't you understand? You express a personality of someone I wouldn't allow near children. You are a delinquent.

Advertise much?
Now only the government read read users emails
Heh "cutting edge"... That's what these phones will have if they get any thinner.
Accidental touches galore! When are they going just embed the phone into your hand? Or better yet, direct brain stimulation?

I don't know. Does Adobe flash run on Linux? I've always used Chrome or VLC when I need to play Flash content.
The operating system is responsible for all of the bugs.
Now what?

You're not kidding... *Buy gold now!*

If they provided lanyard anchors then you wouldn't need the protective case
Unless you want to protect the screen from coins and keys in the same pocket...
Nothing we say is going to change a thing. It's best to just block them and move on. Let it be their problem.
I've definitely bumped into some real weirdness here.
Jeeze you guys! Relax!
If you block the ad, you're a thief.
why not just use the phone?
A phone makes a lousy umbrella. Wear a smile instead.
Tucson has similar predictability. If you see a cloud, it's going to rain.
