  1. The Cheap Alternative on Insanely Audiophile · · Score: 1
Sure, you want to spend thousands of dollars on audio equipment (I mean, I do...!) but, you don't have the money. You have a $10/hr job and you are 17 years old and you don't have much money... what do you do to get good sound?

Well I myself have gone investing in some really good headphones which are sonically comparable to much more expensive stereo/speaker systems. For example, the $6,000 Stax Omega II has been considered the most accurate sound system... period, in anything (well then you need to worry about your source).

I myself have a ~$1000 setup and it sounds extremely good. This is a very viable solution if you don't want/can't to spend huge trucks full of money.

I myself have the Trackball Explorer and the MS Natural keyboard Pro, in response to the aches and cramps I have been having with normal keyboards and mice. This change is HIGHLY recommended; getting good components will significantly reduce the pain experienced during computing sessions.

I've tried the logitech marbleman fx and it just doesn't compare to Microsoft's ergonomics. Sad to say, but this is one thing Microsoft (or whoever make their products) excell at.

  5. Not entirely new/law breaking on Negative Index of Refraction Created · · Score: 1

The negative refraction is not entirely new... It has already been done. To start off with, the refraction index can be described as the ratio of the speed of light to the speed of light through the material. Remember when those scientists managed to pulse light in a cesium chamber 310 times faster than "c"? In that chamber, the index of refraction was in fact negative allowing such a thing to happen.

Anyways the discovery of the negative refraction index (or positive depending on your sign convention) is not physics-law-breaking. Light travels at c in a vacumn where the index of refraction is 1; these negative refraction indexes are perfectly possible so light can travel faster than c in physics so no law has been broken.

Sony? well, for the price, it *might* be good, but if you are looking for very low end setups, go Kenwood. Usually you want to stay away from electronic makers such as Sony who make everything. And yes, the same type of speaker is good, it promotes an ideal setup where sound from all places are the same, takes a more neutral approach, no speaker overpowers the other. The soundstage is much better when all satellites are the same; my home theater setup consists of 5 identical cube speakers (cambridge soundworks) and sounds fantastic (350$ too)...

Well, you can go far if you use insanely large cables... 12 gauge would do fine for normal sized runs though, no need to worry about noise with such a heavy cable... The computer speakers we get come with pathetic 22 or 24 awg cables, no wonder why they sound awful.

  13. Wow... on The PC As Theater: THX comes to the PC · · Score: 1

Well, I don't know if you know but this is incredibly old news, you could buy thx rated systems from Dell for over a year now. The THX system they offer is a wimpy one indeed, the Altec Lansing ADA885s, nothing compared to the Klipsch Promedias and even higher, non thx rated systems such as the DigiTheater. I myself have these Altec Lansing thx speakers ("borrowed" from my mother's dell computer) and they do lack a lot of characteristics that the Klipsch has, such as lack of mid range and precise bass. Now if Dell offered Klipsch systems, they would be giving you a better deal, but I guess not... Oh yeah, on a side note, THX is a scam, don't listen to it. If you really want THX, you buy a THX rated room, thx rated equipment (soundblaster isn't thx rated), THX rated cables, etc etc, price goes up... Oh yeah, the speaker system offered isn't even true Dolby Digital, it uses a phantom speaker (though in some cases this does just fine)...

Is that our purpose, to make computers perfect so that they will help us incredibly in the future? I fear that as beings become more perfect, the imperfect are decided to be exterminated, that means us, the humans. 21. Some thoughts on Possible Pics Of The New Apple Mouse · · Score: 4
First off I would like to say... has anyone noticed that, well, the mouse ONLY fits right-handed people? The renditions, I mean, look at them, the hand that fits the mouse is only the right hand. And so the 10% of the population gets ripped off, for the mouse doesnt fit them! I really hope Apple isn't making a mouse according to these rendition specifications, rather something ambidexterous (or maybe include two mice, left and right :)..)... Well, I hope Apple can do better than this.

Second off, the Puck. Many people have complained about the puck, and I frankly don't see why. The puck is designed for use in a certain position, where your palm does _not_ rest on the mouse, merely the fingers. This position is somewhat comfortable, so I really don't know why their mice (mouses?) are uncomfortable, for they are. The only fault I see is that there is only one button, but then again, the Mac OS only needs one.

Third, about the squeezing part... I really don't think it will be a pain to squeeze or push what appears to be five?! "pressure spots"? and a pseudo scroll wheel... I mean, think about it, everyone exerts some kind of force on your pointing device, and well, it requires force! The sensitivity of these mice would probably be adjustable to what a user needs, from a mere touch to a powerful blow.

It is cool that Apple is innovating... cordless mouse with an optical sensor, and the most shocking part, _no_ buttons, all *standard* with their new macs (hopefully). Well, this is certainly a good start for Apple to pump great hardware that we desire...
