I am still predicting plenty will buy a volt, the prius has already proven that a large portion of the population is bad at math. Once enough idiots buy in perhaps the price will drop to a point where it makes sound financial sense. I am predicting that day is still a long way off.
Android of course is not crappy but it is no competitor yet to the iphone. The device fragmentation is horrific yet, hopefully at some point that will work itself out. My roommate has a droid myself the iphone she is constantly fighting the more difficult to navigate interface. She is not a techno junkie and finds it much more difficult to work with due to the additional flexibility in the interface. The other issue is performance, the performance is just not there running mainly jvm code. Hopefully at some point Google just gets fed up with the whole jvm deal and just ejects is for native code execution.
Yes exactly, people can say what they want about it but IOS crushes android when it comes to the gaming scene. I am not a gamer but I love building and selling games on the app store. IOS native code execution is fast, very fast and allows me to push the very limits of the device. Yes android allows native code execution also but it is very much a hack. Combine those factors with a fragmented platform and it is still fairly easy to make the decision to stay on IOS at least for now.
I don't understand why some feel the need to have that curly brace and or the word s begin / end and or semi colon line closures. These characters have no practical use in the language they are placed there for the compiler. I can think of no other reason to the opposition then the resistance to change. I write languages that require all of the above but because I know python I cringe when having to type these additional useless characters.
Oh and another thing what the hell good is event tracing in windows anyhow? It may give me visibility to a issue but I have no way to solve it. Not like I can crack open the windows source and fix it.
Yea because Linux will never be taken seriously, give me a break. If I want to trace the performance or a particular chunk of code within linux I don't need a tool to do it I have the source code and the ability to modify it. If my boss comes to me ant tells me hey I need this to run faster than competitor xyz you had better believe I am going to make that happen with or without LLT. Sure it may make it easier to do so but if shooting for performance it would also be the first thing I disable.
I love python but if I had to choose a language to write a web app in that at some point I may need to scale it would be PHP. Why you ask, well I have a compiler that can take it to native C++ available if I need it.
You need to get everyone driving toward eliminating the need for installed applications and moving towards web based solutions. Once you are on primarily web based solutions the majority of these issues dissappear. The first great step is to get rid of exchange that is one path of lockin eliminated.
I really need to run a new version of postgresql to figure out if you are jerking my chain or not. I ran postgres databases for years in production and they always sucked. Twice or three times the babysitting of any mysql database. I remember all to well having to take them offline once a week to run vacuum on them to keep them from falling over. Great database with great capability but the maintenance was painful.
I locked myself out of a server the other day hosted on rackspace. I was able to console it from the management interface and fix the issue, not sure if I could have recovered that on ec2.
There is hardly a soul on this planet who's life is not touched by linux in some fashion every single day. Windows has another chunk taken out of it every day it is death by a thousand cuts. If things continue on the path they currently are nearly everyone is going to be running around with linux in their pocket and soon. I saw a guy today with a droid in one hand and a kindle in the other, now that brought a smile to my face.

I am not sure about the pie thing, I do know most of them can smell a 100 dollar bill a mile away.

Got that right I am perfectly happy to code for iOS and sell on the app store.
Yep you have got to put your big boy panties on before jumping into that.

My child is starting off on the right foot his favorite and mine is Kari Byron.
A cookie goes to the slashdotter that can find a exploitable vulnerability in it.
yes cringe! How many times I have opened some source and seen this mess.

Throw the makers to the lions.

The only thing I know is I would be one rich dude.
16 or 128TB of ram, I would call those java ready platforms.

Or you need to scale from 100 to 100,000 users in two days.
Actually I know a Amish dude that runs Linux on his desktop, there goes the Amish theory.
Yes ok, amazon jungle tribal members probably do not use linux very much.
If I am competing, I sure hope my opponent is running Windows.
