I dont care what he was talking about, enterprise or home. The statement was way out of line something I would expect to see coming from the likes of Ransome Love. If windows is so darn good how come no one at the RedHat campus uses it. I partially make a living loading up linux desktop thin clients for customers. His comments no matter what could affect how I sell my solutions.
I am considering dropping our support contracts over this. The problem is that contrary to popular to his statements about the desktop not being ready, we run a ton of thin client desktops. The client machines run the non enterprise version of the os and use remote X to connect to a clustered advanced server. Their recent moves drops any possibility of support for the client machines. I am highly considering a move to either Suse and or Mandrake on both the clients and the server. I liken their move to not support the client version to Microsofts new licensing stupidity. RedHats clustering is nothing more than Kimberlite and I can download that.
I am not seeing a roadmap out of RedHat that I am comfortable with.On top of that I am spitting mad about his desktop comments a few days ago!
Oh no they loose bigtime, the publicity is worth 10 times that figure. It they jump on OSS MS looses closer to a billion just because of the "hey look they did it publicity."
The idea of a winged space craft is stupidity. What purpose do those wings have in orbit? The only thing they do is reduce payload capability and greatly increase complexity. NASA is not gaining anything in reusability. Put a capsule on a simple liquid fuel mostly expendable rocket, strap on the current shuttle SRB's for a little extra boot and you have a sensible space platform.
Don't tell the school I converted last week that Linux is loosing the desktop war badly. You are going to see fast desktop penetration at the corporate and business level first. X Windows thin client mode is making this happen. The war is far from over my friend.
I am not a school kid, I do this shit for a living. Say what you want but it works and it works extremely well. Actually they are using the firebird browser and it is working really nice(low footprint). I suggest you just log back into your XP machine and quit trolling on slashdot.
I was approached by a private grade school that had a bunch of old gear and no money to upgrade software much less the hardware to run the latest windoze. I had them buy a single poweredge server and loaded up mandrake. Turned on XDMCP and are currently loading the clients with Vector Linux. It works really nice on old hardware and boots quickly. So for the cost of a single server they get to use the old gear plus all of the open source software they could ever want. Kudo's to the vector linux developers they saved this schools 50 workstations.
Might I suggest just pre-heating the peroxide by pumping it through a thermite core. I looked into this one time, the stuff is very simple to produce and very safe. It is hard to get started but once going it cannot be put out and is extremely damn hot. You would have to pass the peroxide through the middle of a core that is buring from the inside out otherwise a case burn through would happen extremly quick.
The only legislation that is really needed is to make it unlawful to send mail with forged mail headers. They could pin them with computer and interstate commerce fraud.
A few months ago I just quit using email. It just isn't worth my time to sort through all that junk. I just tell people to icq me or don't contact me at all. It really sucks but if that is what has to be done then so be it.
We where having problems as well with memory management. The kernel would never free cached memory so the box would slow to a crawl and start swapping madly. I am sure it was a bug in kswapd and this is fixed nicely in the later kernels above.18 . One call to RH gave me that answer.
Yes in fact they would be in the wrong. What everyone keeps forgetting is that they where convicted of illegally using their monopoly position. To avoid being broken up they made certain promises, now they have to keep them.
Try talking to someone in Europe for hours at a time and tell me it will not save you money (when you get your bill). If you have a broadband connection anyhow you are loosing nothing.
Myself and many of my friends use Free World Dialup and Cisco ATA's. You can use any phone you want with the cisco and it is very nicely priced. Now when we want to talk we just punch the phone hands free and talk for hours at a time. The clarity is as good if not better than a regular connection.
We have been doing this for nearly a year now, we all laugh about the amount of money we would be spending (but are not) on a pots connection.
As much as I really hate the patent system it is the dagger that is going to finally finish SCO. No matter what happens IBM is going to destroy them with infringment claims.
Actually they are not threatening linux with patent infringement retard. In the end SCO is going to be killed off by the patent system. They infringed IBM's patents and they are just going to have to pay for that.
Well a buy rating could be just anticipation of the mob buying thus it is correct. In light of the continual buying and increasing value of this stock it may be a good gamble to buy some. Of course you are going to try and jump ship when it starts to tank.
What you are not understanding is it does not matter what the actual value of the stock is. The only thing that matters is buying low and jumping when it is high. Think of them as a investment tool, some tidbit of news comes out so I buy before everyone else. The price gets driven up 30% in a single day, I make a ton of money. It has nothing to do with right or wrong just the almighty buck.
It has been extremely easy to convert the droids at work to Firebird. All I have to do is just get them to run it one time and the deal is sealed. The speed of it is simply amazing, orders of magnitude faster than any other browser in existance. The pop up blocker is killer and just works, etc etc. My only hope is that they keep the speed up instead of bloating it with to many features.
With reguards to printers windows is no better if not worse than linux. Every single person I know calls me asking me to fix their damn printers. So I guess it still is a moot point.
I just show them all of the pictures I have of k-8 students running a mandrake desktop. I think they get the hint when I tell them they can be easily replaced by a sixth grader then.
Now I really like spam assassin but it is a damn bitch to get up and running. I have been getting a increasing amount of spam that passes through it because the message is short and only contains web links. It is time to take spam assissin to the next level and have it spider the links running it through something like dans guardian to further qualify the message as spam. That and adding a routine that checks the domain record age.
Should Steve Ballmer recommend that everyone use Linux instead of Windows on their servers? Do you see how really dumb a statement you made now?

The best way to image a windoze box is to FDISK it and put something useful on it. What is the name of this web site slashdot or MCSE QA.

No one even SCO, is retarded enough to send those invoices. The moment they send those invoices they step into federal law territory.
...
Mail Fraud
FTC
SEC
The list goes on and on
I find it damn hard to believe that anyone is buying licenses.
