NO you are not american you are a anonymous coward. Only cowards make statements like you just made. I am no GWB lover but he ought to launch a tomahawk strike on IRAQ tonight just for that shit ass public comment they made today.
Yes it can indeed get inside a firewall. Say you got bonehead web developer front page dude at home running the developer version. It is no doubt infected with the worm since said developer is using front page and MS SQL on his home xpeeee box. He thanks you by logging in via VPN into your network and spreads the joy. Priceless.....
If people want to have something like this just put the private key on a USB dongle. I can remove the damn thing this way if I wish, my decision. This is no different than the hardware dongles software manufacturers sometimes use only this on is permanatly attached and cannot be removed.
Yes this may indeed be true at least for the very short term. Sun knows damn well that they cannot stop the inevitable tide. The linux programming force is extremely strong and motivated. Linux is growing exponentially stronger each and every single day. One only has to look at SGI for a 64 way record shattering linux machine. Cluster technology on linux is growing at a faster rate than in any other operating system.Sun knows that no matter what they do or say Linux is going to own the Unix server space.
Let me guess, it was a graphical multi-headed worm using vernum encryption. I bet this thing was laying dormant on some PDP11 at a univerisity. Oh paleeezzeeee!
So really what makes you think myself as a customer want's even anything close to that on one of my motherboards?. The possibility of future misuse is to great for me to even consider it. I can tell you as both a corporate and private customer that it is not wanted in any shape or form. The mere mention of supporting it frankly makes my skin crawl with disgust. If this is how you choose to release your products I choose not to participate with my dollars.
My observations over the years has made me conclude that college is for two types of people. Firstly there are those that do not have the dicipline to train themselves. Second are the ones trying to obtain a position that they have no natural talent for. Programming is not really something that can be taught you have to be built for it. Ninety percent of the programmers that I know fit into the first and second category. The good programmers I know are in the last 10%, they do it because it is their god given talent.
Put together a boot loader and ask MS to sign it. If they do not turn around and sue them under the terms of the approved judgement and or a anti-trust suit.
What makes you think that I want you to have my code in your closed source project. I could give a rats ass if you like my choice in licensing. It is my code not yours, if I want to use the GPL then by god I will use the GPL.
No the GPL ensures that some slug is not going to compile in my library and try to sell me back my own code. The GPL is my reward in knowing that I not going to be taken advantage of.
First off the number of software companies vs other sectors is really small. I work as a porogrammer / sysadmin at a manufacturing plant. Do we really care if it is bad for microsoft when we use GPL software. No we care about reducing overhead thus lowering the cost of manufacturing thus allowing us to take bigger price cuts on our products while maintaining the same level of profit. Linux makes us competitive in our industry and this is why we use it, religion is not the issue but simple economics is. Furthermore do I want to sit at home each night and write some code for MS so that they might be able to sell it back to me and or overcharge my company for it. No thanks I will choose the GPL!
I don't agree that it has to look exactly like windows. I am running right around 100 kde terminal clients at work and most of the guys that are running them have never even used a keyboard before. We give them a 1 hour training session and turn them loose. The only problem I ever had with the system was when a forklift drivers ran over one of the client boxes. Linux is perfect in the corporate environment since the sysadmin maintains full control, desktop, icons, processes, etc.
Linux is not going to get the consumer market right away, first will be the corporate desktop. You hear alot of people bitching about X windows be let me be the first to tell you that because it is a networkable solution it was easy to sell in the company. The corporate lan is the perfect place to roll out the desktop first. It allows for single point administration and tremendously reduces costs. The fall out of this is that people are going to migrate those home systems because linux is what they will know.

MS secure document format has been cracked and the code posted.
