My job is not in any way threatened by any H1B holder but this is america and I spent 10 years in our navy and earned my right to call this place mine. The thought of imported workers taking american jobs disgusts me. Send them all back...
Proprietary file formats are to blame. Imagine if every file format was similar to open office xml based documents. A background process could be indexing the documents and making available very powerful searching. Then add a natural expression engine on top to get the documents. "show me all documents that contain the word resume"
My father is really going to understand that. Not a bad idea but the implementation appears to need work. Another interesting thing to note is that this is probably coded in C++ and is going to be a bitch once again to interface with scripting libraries. I love KDE but it is a difficult task to integrate other languages with.
Nice hack but I think a mini-itx could be squeezed in there as well. This would make is a full up self contained system. Then go for the retro look and add a lcd to the top of the carriage....Priceless
None of these companies have figured out how to make good 802.11b equipment, it will be a cold day in hell before I purchase fresh of the shelf g equipment.

The problem with web development in java is two fold. It is slow and not a very productive environment. PHP, NET and Perl will always be more productive. Now the PHP ported struts framework, now we are talking.
If they cannot remain a profitable organization then let it die already. Man I really hate to say something like that but enough is enough. No amount of money is going to fix flawed management.
Any programmer worth a grain of salt could take down the internet at any time and cause horrific infrastructure damage. Writing a worm or virus that causes extreme outages and infrastructure damage might take at least a hour or so to code. I could do it as well as most programmers I know could do it. On the other hand I know most of us would not like to go to jail for doing something like this. Is it a threat, why sure it is any of us could do it any time we want it is just a matter of if we wish to stay free or be locked away.
Yes how hard is it to type ssh -l . Wireless is only secure as the OS that you use with it. If you decide that you like to use windows, you and you alone are responsible for the insecurity.
If the guys want to build a XP interface for teir linux systems then by all means have at it. Most of you idiots don't even write code and have no place to be crying about it anyhow. If the itch exists then by all means scratch it. Open Source programmers do what we want so just get over it.
I am from the midwest and we hunt deer with handguns. Thank god we don't have stupid legislators in our state. Some days I hunt with gloves on, especially when it is cold as a witches titty. There are othe days when the temps are nice and I don't wear the gloves. Are the sensors going to adjust to those factors? Something tells me the technology does not exist to implement this in a reasonable way.
Don't get me wrong the LTSP stuff is great but to hard to manage in my experience. If you wish to deploy the linux desktop load a bare minimum install to the client (yes that means you need a drive in the machine). Use a redhat kickstart to install the clients. The kickstart install should replace the inittab with one pointing x windows at your terminal server. Most all refurb and currently installed clients have drives anyhow. Now on the server the only thing to do is turn on XDM and you have a full up system
LTSP requires a ton of configuration and requires boot rom's and nfs to mount root drives. This is to many pieces and parts to fail. I run hundred's of clients in this fashion and it requires darn near 0 effort to maintain by the sysadmin.

Man I spent 10 years in the navy as a Operations Specialist. Besides fragging ragheads with tomahawks my other job was to watch a radar screen all day. If you think for a second that a measly half watt signal 5 miles away is going to screw with a ageis phased array radar you are a bigger idiot then the people writing these articles. The radar systems are severly hardened against interference both natural and some towel head trying to jam you by pushing a million watts at you splattering the entire band. Now think about it, is your little Proxim card going to jam or interfere with my million watt ship radar...ROTFLMAO
Hell I am not even going to get into the frequency hopping shit
Folks it is time to de-man that thing and use it to start staging for a mars mission. Start sending up fuel and supplies for the mission and storing it on the station.
Somehow this article seems to only pertain to users of software produced by a certain monopoly. I use the mighty Mozilla and frankly it has been a damn long time since I have even seen a pop up ad.
The terminal interface is the most efficent human interface designed to date for data entry. I have never seen a GUI app that can come close to the user efficency of the ole mainframe terminal interfaces. That combined with the scalability, reliablity and ease of maintenence will insure that the mainframe will be around for yet a very long time.

Windows has the best secuirty my ass, vpn has already been cracked and rather easily. Try ssh tunneling and then you have something to deal with.

As always perl is just not up to the task...

The GPL firmly kills any chances of a bait and switch. If SUN tried to tighten the screws they could switch to open office...
The one and only feature that linux has that windows will never have. This single feature is what we just love about linux.

Quick download it before the one other user of BSD starts his download and chokes the pipe.
