    Looks really great for building Mini BattleBots. The problem with most of you is that you cannot imagine the hackability of this new set. Legos totally suck, they fall apart. Build it with erector and it will stay together. Linux and erector, what a beautiful team.

    And what if I just to happen to change my httpd.conf to say use php to process .asp extensions? With all of the asp to php conversions going on right now that is a great way to avoid goofing up outside linked sources.

    Yes and that is why my bot runs 4000 lines of custom code. If it is just a rc car try and build one. I will bet you get humbled rather quickly. Controlling 100s of amps with a pic microcontroller requires a good bit of knowledge my friend. To be a successful builder requires many skills machinist, welder, electronics, programming, mechanical design.

    It really has nothing to do with buying distros. MS CALS and enerprise licensing is where the real money is spent. Take for instance we just built a web application that used MS SQL. We then found out that it would cost us a enterprise SQL license at 50 K just because a web application was hooked to it. We converted the application to use Postgres in a few hours and saved the 50K. Nuff Said!

    I have desktop edition that we paid for at work and it flat out rocks. In most cases I can copy over straight delphi code and compile with little or no problem. The compiler is also blinding fast, frankly it kicks gcc's ass up one side and down the other. GUI takes minutes not months to build and the produced executable is as fast as any C++ application.

    I have not seen it yet as I own desktop edition but only a few things are needed anyhow.

    1. IDE
    2. Compiler
    3. Debugger
    4. Ability to register component

    If just these 4 things are intact there is nothing that cannot be easily built with it. You do not get the apache modules, so what it does not stop anyone from making a free version of the apache interfaces. What mysql missing so what just go grab free pascals version and compile.

    Sort of like the server side cursor locking up at about 30k records. This could not possibly be a MS SQL server bug! . MS SQL server is no better than a souped up version of Access. I just replaced two of them with Postgres and have not had a problem since. 50K for a MS License, Ha I think not.....

    The court just gave MS the go ahead to suck every last bit of money from every customer they have. We all know that they are going to take full advantage to tie everything they can to the OS. I am afraid it is to late and the hammer has already dropped on them. I do not know a single enterprise customer that does not beleive MS is just taking them for a horrible ride. This looks bad on the surface but in reality it is a good thing for linux.

    Don't even go spouting off about SAPDB being the best, why because yes it it the most industrial strength of the bunch. Now the only drawback to SAPDB is lack of good tools and the necessity of being a rocket scientist to even get the damn thing to run much less supporting it. We tried running the damn thing and actually got it to work but the maintenance and documentation issues turned us back to postgres for the real work.
