Actually, this isn't completely correct. While it's true your employer cannot cover you if you do something illegal, they can certainly fire you for it. Most states are "at will" employment states, and an employer can fire you any time for any reason not specifically prohibited by law. Plus, they can even fire you for reasons that are prohibited, if they're cunning enough to not SAY they are firing you for a prohibited reason.

There is a project in the U.K. by professionals to do this (Cambridge Optical Aperture Synthesis Telescope). This gives a pretty good description of what is necessary for setting up an optical array. Note the combining building, which is where the light path lengths are matched. The main thing is that the images are formed from light that arrives at the telescopes at the same moment. With radio frequencies, the signal can be recorded on tape, along with a time hack, allowing for multiple signals to be combined after the fact. I don't believe there is a way to do that with light.

  14. Unlikely to Happen on Request for Cosmic Collision Insurance · · Score: 5, Insightful

Humans seem to be unable to comprehend the need for action in this kind of low probability/extremely devasting situation. Nobody living has seen anything like this kind of catastrophe, so the public won't relate to it even if they hear about it. Our leaders don't grasp that a very low probability just means that given a long enough timeframe, the event will still likely occur.

  18. Religous B.S. on Internet Censorship In Saudi Arabia · · Score: 1

The royal family in Saudi Arabia also makes sure that any sites that have any information in any way critical of the government are blocked. Funny, they don't mention how they're protecting the sensibilities of their people with this action. This is the biggest reason for censorship in Saudi Arabia; the majority of the royal family could give a rat's ass about their people. They look at them as a source of money only. They could care less if the whole country watches porn 24 hours a day, as long as the people don't see anything that gets them stirred up against the thousands of leeche/princes. The royals pay lip service to Sharia and "muslim sensibilities" in order to keep the real religous factions pacified and because they are terrified of a religous uprising ala Iran. Hence the porn filters.
