That depends on the OS and hardware. Linux+SSD is 4 seconds to GDM (don't you dare say something!). Though, the Windows XP on the 2TB Western Digital is also fast with around 20 seconds to Desktop...there's only Steam installed, though.
Everytime I hear somebody talking about emacs/vi I think to myself: "I have to learn that finally". Though, I always say that about Dwarf Fortress and Nethack, too.

So the author of TFA suggest to stop worrying about such things as interoperability and longevity of Federal Documents and just go with MS Office, and instead worry about the real issues...like Webbrowsers...

AFAIK, they're not even armed if strapped to a plane which is flying into mission, the detonator is only placed in the bomb (and the bomb therefor armed) the moment it's going to be dropped.
