Actually, you don't necessarily have to send it in for repair, or "wind" the mechanism by hand. Apple has detailed info in a TIL article found here: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106 882 Gotta love Open Firmware...
I am just updating my system to OS X 10.1.4, which told me this about the update to IE:
"This latest version - version 5.1.4 - resolves all potential security vulnerabilities in previous versions of Internet Explorer 5. This includes vulnerabilities that might have caused Internet Explorer to stop responding or caused a memory problem that compromised the security of the computer."
Using the commands 'tangle' and 'weave' (try a 'man tangle' on your favorite linux boxen...), you can generate both HTML and LaTeX output. The markup can be done in either format. It can create an index of variables. In short, this is what you should be using.
Excuse my ignorance, but why does B have to be random? Assuming that your compression scheme imparted order to chaos to achieve 100:1 compression, it seems that B would be highly organized.
Ever gzipped a gzipped file (force it if necessary)? It doesn't get noticeably smaller on each pass...
The MPEG4 file format is based on the QuickTime file format. The codec is not derived from Apple technology, otherwise I would be able to watch MPEG4 videos already on my mac....
So if I were a cashier in the store, and I knowingly give you $20 instead of a single, then it's okay for you to keep it?
My intentions don't enter into the right/wrong argument. Hell, tell that to St. Peter at the pearly gates, "...but the Devil knew it was bad for me...".
Russ,
The shareware community on the mac is pretty vibrant. Alot of good small apps are given away for free, yet you don't have access to the source code.
As for open source software which is not free, I can't come up with an example. Let me drink another cup of coffee..
" So I?m pleased that even in this last year, as PC sales and the economy were tough, Microsoft showed its commitment to long term R&D. We grew R&D percentage wise less than in most years, and I think that?s probably what you?ll see going forward."
Since they cut funding for R&D, and plan to cut it more going forward, plan on seeing more blatant ripoffs, err...I mean innovations.

All but the most archaic macs (and heaven help them if they want to use an LCII these days!), have ethernet built in (maybe requiring an AAUI adapter...). Never met a mac that you couldn't configure to be on the net in about 3 clicks, flawlessly.
Picture the Cray T3E's as very large Beowulf clusters, with extremely nice network connections between them.
The IBM SP's seem like the weird hybrid...with multiple CPU's per "node".
What made Cray money was their compilers. The auto-vectorizing capability made serial code run fast with no work. There is no "auto-Beowulfing" compiler yet. For work in that area, look for "co-array fortran", or UPC "unified parallel C".
But since compilers are black boxes, that I inherently don't trust because I don't understand, if you want to get work done, the code should be handwritten using MPI and OpenMP. Of course, your mileage may vary.
And the question for the day: which way is the net transport of CO2 at the atmosphere/ocean interface? Is it into, or out of? Last I knew, we didn't even know that!
WIth OS X and OS 9.x, the password is encrypted...
Sounds like you need to go to a MacOS only solution. OR you should get to work updating the Netatalk code...Open source is never broken, it's just got a long to-do list, or has fallen out of maintenance.
I believe this very idea is the basis for the next form of cryptography that would be virtually unbreakable, along the lines of sorting the wheat from the chaff.
Someone who knows something want to chime in? I think it's pretty much a one time pad kind of thing, not public key based...

It's a pretty bold statement.
All my worries about IE are gone!
Mod this up!!!

AOL-TW has government oversight in the form of the FCC saying how much market dominance they can have, at least as far as cable, etc are concerned.
Who oversees the tech industry?
Try ProjectBuilder on MacOS X.
I love this US vs. THEM mentality.
I believe Rodney King said it best..."Can't we all just get along?"
I would disagree wholeheartedly!
I have never seen a Mac refuse to work because a peasant sat at its keyboard.
Mac users on the other hand...

I hate these silly analogies.
They may not be used to hacking from UNIX dweebs, but they are by no means unaccustomed to it...ever heard of the annual Mac Hack conference?

Well for macs or windows, you might want to check this.
Here's my favorite quote from Gates:

Last I checked the price was really $399, which I would round up to $400, and not down to $200.
Wow, dude, you need a Mac and applescript.
Automate repetitive tasks. Geesh.

Single precision only and with code that "knows" how to use the short vector units. Although writing for altivec can't be harder than MPI ;)
Sequencing: finding out how the A, T, C, and G units are arranged in you.
Decoding: finding out what the sequence leads to as far as expression of traits goes. Like why you have an aversion to bio-tech speak (grin).

It's not handwriting recognition if you have to learn little symbols to scribble in that miserable little space at the bottom of the screen.
I would only own a palm if I could run the Newton OS 2.0 on it...Haven't tried the linux hr stuff yet, but it would have to be better.
MacOS X Server, and a a buttload of iMacs that NetBoot from the central server....
Simple to set up, simple to administrate, and iMacs are cheap as dirt.

1) Text is part of the user interface. Maybe you were making the distinction between text and icons/widgets?
2) Check out OS X.
