    I disagree. The AS400 variants out there today are saving many companies millions of dollars. The way the OS isolates applications from hardware means you can upgrade or buy a new AS400 and your applications still work, unlike most thing from M$ (try to run a DOS game on XP, or any older programs). Large companies don't buy shrink wrap software. Payroll, inventory, etc are all custom written, normally in house. After 20 years of use, upgrade, etc, these are easily million dollars programs. How many can afford to switch?

    Linus has the final say on anything included in the kernal. If it doesn't pass him it will not be included in any official kernal release. That is the standard the community has set. If you don't like it, try to get MadDog to change it with the board.

    is that some shorsighted board with no memory might decide to make an accountant CEO. Bean counters know numbers, think they know the processes, but don't know the product or the customers. This idea in the 50's and 60's led to US business getting their butts kicked in the 70's. Classic example: Robert McNamara at Ford, got costs under control beautifully, then brought out the Edsel, which ended up costing more than the savings.

    I hope history does not repeat.

    I really wish I could understand this clowns problem. This is the only person that consistantly nails me. It seems to follow the mod points cycle, so I pretty much know when it's comming and write something just for this clown.

    Another confused liberal, there's only two things you can do to them:
    1. kick the bejeesus out of them.
    2. give them a big enough raise to make them conservative.

    Does Germany have a law that I'm not familiar with? Email is free not a paid service, why is there some obligation to deliver? Snail mail is normally Govt. run and delivery is what you pay for with a stamp.

    No one has to or could guarantee anything for email. With the amount flowing because of SPAM the dropped packets must be astronomical.

    More people watched a cartoon movie(Shrek 2) this weekend than have watched all of Moores movies put together.

    Why anyone cares what someone in the movie industry has to say about anything but movies is beyond me. Then again I'm not sure they know that much about movies? Titanic won 11 Oscars?

    Of course I don't understand Starbucks either. $4 for a cup of coffee? I like mine plain black, not that sissified crap.

    I like the crack about the Congress critters. I always thought it was a conflict of interest to elect a lawyer to any legislative body. Look at the results: laws written in language only a lawyer can understand.

    They are guaranteeing themselves and their peers perpetual permanent employment, translating that crap into english.

    That is what most ofus have been sying for a year now. SCO had nothing and wanted IBM to give them the rope to hang em with. It's always been pretty obvious who would get hung.

    The way this has been dragging on forever I hope it turns into a nice Christmas present for all Linux and IBM users. Because i'm sure nothing definative will happen until then.

    Think about SCO and it's variants (Red Hat, Novell) clogging the courts there. It's been over a year and the obvious good still hasn't happened.

    And yes I think Hatch is dangerous. He's an honest politician, by LBJ's definition: "once he's bought, he stays bought", by the MPAA, and RIAA.

    When I saw the words lawsuit and Utah together I expected the worst. Why is it hard to contemplate any good from a lawsuit in Utah? Or at least anthing good happening fast, like in my lifetime.

    In America it goes, "if it's not expressly forbidden, it's ok to do it". The other way is very police state, like the bad old days of Moscow.
    As for the first amendment, it has nothing to do with advertising. If someone knocks on my door and refuses to leave, I have them arrested for tresspass. If they stand in the street yelling their spiel, they get arrested for disturbing the peace. There are NO first amendment rights to advertise!

    The photos show the car from the right rear, with license plate readable. You can't even tell the hair length of the driver. A friend got one and showed it to me. Unless you can prove you were someplace else, it goes on your record. They will not pursue someone else, you have to prove it or get them to fess up.

    to see how this one shakes out. This could open a whole rash of lawsuits, where people go for the wallet instead of the technology. Advertising is all about the wallet, emptying yours into theirs.

    I've always thought this was the way to kill SPAM too. Sue the companies paying for it.

    It will end up like the red light traffic cameras that are exploding into use in the US. They just send the ticket to the registered owner. It doesn't matter who might have been driving, you WILL pay the ticket because it's your car. No exceptions, no excuses.
