and useability are the only things that matter. No one has produced a digital that can come close to my 27 year old Nikon F2, full manual, no auto features. When they do, I'll buy one, but I will not take a step down at the prices a decent digital costs.
Also it's fairly simple and quick to get one update done and working on a test machine, and then do every other one with an image from the master server. Quick and simple, the testing is done in advance and the actual update takes very little time. Googles speed would be slowed very little if two or three servers were out of the loop for a few minutes at a time.Kind of like how most place test a program before releaseing it in their production/working system.
They will lie, they will get caught, they will get away with just a wrist slap.
Isn't that how it works each and every time?
By trying something different IBM may get a different result. "We have copies of this, that, and the other, your honor, now where are M$ copies? Might work, hope so.
The government can't handle anything involving technology. This has been proved several times the last few years. 1. DMCA - If not written by M$, RIAA, MPA, then at least approved by them in content. 2. Can Spam - All words and context approved by the DMA, which makes it useless. 3. Do Not Call - wait, how did that slip through, it works fairly well. Oh the telephone is how old?
If I were an idiot and if I were a Congressman, but I repeat myself - Mark Twain
I am amazed how few people can tell the difference between an F 15 and an F16, and don't even resemble each other. The top right plane is an F 16. The test F5 in the middle and a regular F5 at bottom left. These planes have only been around for 30 years.
Diebold screwed up, and they admit it. Trusted computing is M$ FUD. The DMCA was written by technology and entertainment companies to protect a dying business model. Then enacted by a techonlogicaly illiterate Congress.
In short, none of these groups really know what they are doing. The Supreme Court will have to rule on the DMCA/Free press issue. Nothing can be settled till then.
But in truth we need to replace all members of Congress. Remember any of the who have served more than 2 terms are working for those who line their pockets. Never forget that anyone who makes less than $135,000/year has no representation. They represent their own tax bracket and the ones they aspire to.
The founding fathers wanted a citizen legislature to come in do the job and go home to real jobs, not an overpaid permanet ruling class.
Dual data rate RAM is not interchangeable with oldr styles. Different pin count means it won't fit. The correct solution is not to buy faster than you need. For Athlons that means only Barton core or better need PC3200 (400) and any one with a 333 can run PC2700 and on down. This is not ment for overclockers who run everything just short of meltdown.
They have alienated alot more than geeks due to the garbage they try to foist on everyone. That is the real reason sales aren't where they want them. Everytime a quality artist releases one, sales jump, the rest of the time they stagnate.
The quality of the product should be the driver. Oh wait, that applies to the Linux vs. M$ fight too!
They don't play the same. Most burned CD's are inferior to store bought. No matter, the burning of our own will not kill the music industry anyway and that is the basic idea.
If you didn't have a very high end system you wouldn't notice because most amps and speakers weren't that good. Not everyone had Bose 901s, or a $4000 system to push them. A friend in the Navy had a very high end Sansui system and he beat all prerecorded crap too.
90% of todays burners can't do that good and it show if the CD is play on a very nice system.
Go back to the early 70's, the death of the music industry was going to be the - cassette tape. Actually heard the exact samr quotes from industry execs back then as the ones they used against Napster. I mean word for word, like the quality of their product, the good speach writers are from the past.
The funny thing was that no matter how good a system you had, a home recording never beat store bought.
As a former mechanic (injury job change, now programmer) the NYT's attitude towards the car has always grated. In NY there is little reason for one because public transport is good. In 90% of the U.S., public trans is a dream at best and normally a joke. This has always had a bearing on my thoughts of them. They don't seem as biased as the TV types, who are personalities, not jounalists(even if they used to be), but the mass media in the U.S. in all forms has a definate left tilt. And it seems to get worse as time passes.
Does any form of journalism have any ethics. I have not seen anything close to ethics, truth in reporting, or objectivity in 35 years, from any form of media. The NYT is so far left it make the Washington Post look conservative. They all lie to make their own agendas look correct.

Damn, and I liked Sirius and XM. Never cared for Roxio. Never really heard of the rest. Thanks for the link. I will use it to make different choices.

Someone admits to making a mistake, and gets modded troll? Someone with points has a serious attitude problem.
Every now and then we all step on our dicks, I was just wearing golf shoes this time.

Right on the money.

All the lead in all the computer components ever made would not be 10% of the lead soldered plumbing sill left in use in New York City.

It doesn't have to be long to be dead on the money. Endless babble without saying anything is for politicians.

how will the music industry respond?
As stupidly as possible, just like normal.
It's not the salesman, or the current sales staff.
Could it be the product?
Nothing beats powdered sugar between the sheets on a warm night. Unless it's remapping the boss's keyboard.
With my three address it comes closer to 80%.

Another unforseen problem with the moron protection lights, beside that every one now ignores them.
Keep stupid people from the consequenses of their actions and all you do is dilute the gene pool.
Wow, go back to when we had mechanic instead of technicians? Sign me up.
A tchnician swaps old parts for new ones(we can train chimps for this). A mechanic fixes it when no parts are available and maybe not the right tools.
I was a mechanic for 33 years!
