I think everyone should be given open internet access initially but forced to log in before being given such. By forcing user logins open internet access could be given to those able to use it responsibly, while those who abuse such a thing could have their access restricted or even terminated.
Are there any VoIP POTS gateway programs out there?
Basically we've got more cat5 running around the house here than standard old phone cable. It would be nice to be able to place and receive calls from our existing computer stations.
"To measure the effect of piracy on its business, Steinberg, based in Hamburg, Germany, once offered an amnesty whereby any holder of a pirated version of Cubase, which retails for $350 to $800, could trade it in for a legal version. The number of pirated versions turned in equaled 25 percent of the company's sales that year."
This is sure a funny way of measuring piracy. Seems more like giving away free copies. Don't steal our product... but if you do that isn't a problem, we'll give you a free license

Am I the only person here who doesn't bother celebrating New Years?
Last year was almost slightly interesting.... stayed up til 4 am (pst) the morning of dec 31/99 just curious if any glitches would appear in some of the first few timezones to cross over.
New Years in the local time zone I didn't even bother keeping track of..... I was surfing the net when I heard some fireworks in the distance and realized it must be midnight.
The only thing even remotely connected to the end of the year that I do is watching air farce (about the only good thing on Canadian tv imho)
Parties and all are great but if there's any counting/'happy new years' type of stuff going on count me out
well.... I'm on dialup.... I have no cd-burner.... so that basically settles it for me
(and after sending in any mail in rebates generally all you seem to pay is a buck or two of two and a stamp.... so I can't even understand them making any money off that either)
I just haven't got the money to afford Visual Studio.... even at the academic rates (which of course aren't available to high school students.... only faculty or those in university/college)
Linux is cheap (I picked up a boxed copy basically paying only a couple bucks in tax and a few stamps after the mail-in rebate.... haven't got a cd burner and am still on dialup)....
And the people out there are a lot more helpful
if only I could manage to get permissions for a linux box with which to play around on at school....
I have to agree about all that annoying eye candy. I always try to keep the number of graphics per page to an absolute minimum.... generally following the reduce, reuse, recycle type of thinking when graphics are in play
I remember how annoyed I was when Apogee (or whatever they were calling themselves at the time) released Duke 3D.... I love side scrollers...
as far as multiplayer games go I rather be nearby (within shouting distance of my opponent).... and hey... whatta ya know... every gaming console I've seen has supported at least 2 controllers.....
I remember playing micro machines (1) on the nes.... those were fun times
you got a license to use the software on that machine, not to use their cd.....
just burn a copy to a cd.... it's the same software...... it's the same computer
hacking.... doesn't have to be illegal... of these definitions only one (v. tr. 3b) is illegal....
I guess judging by the wording of the treaty I can't mail my ax down south to you yankees..... stress relief appears banned too....
don't u just love that wording?

hmn....
currently I'm thinking along the lines of webtv alla broadband.... although imho wireless keyboards are often a pain in the a**
I wonder what effect a patent like this would have on the US economy. Seeing as this is the US patent office this shouldn't have effect on ecommerce taking place entirely outside it's borders. I can imagine the US marketplace getting cut off from the world market and becoming two distinct identities. A Frenchman (for example) would be forced to buy from a Canadian online store instead of an American one.
Anyone with any brains would not let this patent get past the front door, but remember we're dealing with the US patent office here. (Of course this scenerio is way too extreme to happen but it's just a thought)
Are these lovely things going to be available in Canada too? (preferably at the website as I don't feel like showing myself at the local radio shack)
From time to time I've felt a need for a barcode scanner (although the intended purpose of the device is, imho, rather silly... i belong to the crowd prefering to just type the url in).
Now, instead, they attempt to stop others from extending towards free software and embracing it.
Hmn...
considering that the rest of the article was in English why not called it the 'Canadian Space Agency' instead of using the French equivalent?
We may be officially bilingual up here, but it's virtually only in Quebec that you'll have people speaking French.

I tried this about a week ago using access 2000 and it froze the program. I think I remember reading somewhere that Access '97 will work though.
you might want to check out http://www.linux.nf/storage.htm
It's got instructions for ide, parallel port, and usb zip installations.
Of course if you import your own cds (business trips to the states?) you are exempt from the levies. They only apply when the cds are sold.

Agreed.
I've always looking for a printer version of the sites that I read since most of those dump a whole pile of the trash that fills up most websites.

Woooow..... I just took a peek at those screen shots can't they make that start bar a tad smaller?
depends on the version.... 8 is native (not made by Corel either I believe... there's a plus for you) 9 (aka 2000) runs ala wine
