Paperback dimensions are the following:
A) 4.33" x 7.01"
B) 5.12" x 7.8"
C) 5.32" x 8.51"
E-Reader leaning tablets try to be in the above ballpark. The focus is on novels. More specifically, the focus is on genre fiction like romance, science fiction, and mistory.
The Ipad is more focused on magazines and newspapers than it is on novels.
Forget the actual medical applications. The applications for pseudo medicine are just as good. There are already a ton of people sleeping on magnetic mats. They would eat this up. Maybe even literally.
Amazon should come out with a Hipster tablet that has a screen on the back that shows the cover of the book your reading. When not reading it should show hipster tea shirt slogans.
When attempting to salvage parts of the company the Judge doesn't want to rule that something can't be sold. His primary concern is making sure debtors get money back. The data is something that clearly has value to B&N. There is not much damage to consumers if the data is transfered from Borders to B&N. No customer is going to lose money, be embarrased, or go to jail because of this deal. Damages to the consumer is very hypothetical. So why not let it go through.
Bankruptcy is a legal process where you legally break your contracts because you are out of money. The only way to protect data privacy is through legislation that limits how data is transferred in Bankruptcy.
It is screwy. But I am sorta glad B&N purchased the info and not someone else. At least with B&N we know what that the info will be used in the exact same way it was used under Borders. I would love a ruling that the data needs customer approval for transfer though.
I just think it is wierd that we can get a protest going to draw insulting pictures of a dead islamic prophet, but we ignore the actual living douch bags. Wouldn't it be better to do an "Officer Bubbles" meme on this judge?
Uhh no. Those libraries each have to purchase the book for their local collection. So you would still get 11,000 library sales. Only participating publishers books are available for the libraries to purchase. This isn't copyright infringment.
I think we do a diservice to Pakastan by pretending a country wants to block Facebook. Let pile are ridicule on Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed the judge who is promoting this. By saying Pakastan want this we are letting him off the hook.
I don't really understand why this system should work long term. What benifet does the local library add to a website where you borrow books? I would think you could cut the libraries out of the equation and not lose anything.
It is not a bad thing if libraries are shut down after becoming less relavent. If cheap/free digital books become as common as TV then we won't need them anymore. We only need a few redundant collections to preserve hard copies in case of an electromagnetic disaster.
Anyone else put off by the books cover art. It his name in huge white letters on a black background. It looks like an autobiography not a science fiction novel. The title of the book looks like a subtitle to his name.
I would not bet on the git history including everything needed for 3.0. There could be legal reasons why they can't release 3.0 not just embarrasing coding mistakes. A few proprietary packages may have been used to hack Android into an OS for tablets. From a version tree standpoint you can think of it as a dead branch. Some stuff will be commited up to the root for Ice Cream Sandwitch but some stuff we will likely never see.
I think your confusing a centrally planned economy with Socialism. Socialist goverements used centrally planned economys, but so do facist goverments and monarchies. Your correct somewhat in that an extreme market economy would not have a mayor selecting where the hospital is built. There are socialist economies where the the market isn't centrally planned. In these the planning is distributed to local chapters of the party. Sort of a federalised socialist economy.
Piracy has nothing to do with the availability of digital books. Most books are pirated by scanning and OPRing a physical book. The DRM on a physical book sucks. To make a copy you just need one of those cheap multi function printers and the willingness to cut the spine off the book. Trying to DRM books is like trying to prevent people from photographing sculptures in public places.
The study took people into different groups and had them perform tasks. In one setup a physically difficult task was given. Performance was measured against the size of the bonus given to top performers. (no reward, 1 days pay, 1 months pay) The results showed that people performed better the bigger the reward. Another group was given a mentally difficult task. Performance was also measured against the size of the bonus given to top performers. When the task was mental, performance decreased when the bonus was too high. (1 month pay)

I think Apple has a design patent in Europe on black rectangles with those dimensions.

Meh B&N did you a favor by buying it. The other bidders was probably Zynga, eHarmony, Facebook, and Rupert Murdoch. Lessers of two evils and all that.

No that was Borders.
Citation needed for the "not a productive way to spread your views." I would bet it is quite effective. That is why it is illegal in so many places.

B&N has most of that.
Sounds like you have a nice oppurtunity. You have a known proven buisness with no competition.

Yes that is what I was thinking. But we wouldn't need one or two building per town anymore each holding two sets of harry potter books.

The summary says they clock an hour a day. It doesn't say they work one hour a day and clock 8. They could indicate that its a part time second job.

2 + 2 = 4
