    I remember having a Commodore 64, 128 and Sparton mimic.

    Most of the time the computer crashed becouse of a hardware defect.. (water in the disk drive... mom tossed the sleaves to many floppy disks in spite of my objections and other non-software related causes).

    But on a rare occasion we have software that actually has a bug in it.

    "Becouse the programmer is an idiot" - Me
    "Can you fix it?" - Mom

    "Oh well... Disk ninja" - Mom
    (Disk Ninja.. when you take a floppy and rip the disk insides out and use it as a frisbe.

    Of course Palms had network hotsync for a long time now. (Not supported on Linux but is supported on BSD).
    Also I was conserned about the bandwith needs of VNC (Sorry my PDA dosen't have broudband connection.. still using CDCP) So I elected to use telnet.

    That needs a telnet client (any PDA) and a *nix desktop (Anything not by Microsoft) and TOZ I'm logged in...
    WHEEEE

    Scoop up afree dynamic domain and I'm free....

    Thow I think VNC is MUCH better when you have the bandwith on your PDA.
    My question becomes can I get the source for the server side? I've had nothing but nightmares with any given binary and just don't want to mess with binarys anymore.

    I'll take the $7 mouse. Come on why rebate to zero unless you know most people won't bother?

    The reason anyone dose this is for marketing data and they also expect most people to not bother as a result they'll actually make more money selling overpriced "discount" items than they would if they sold streight forward.

    Some occasions the business won't process the rebate. Your screwed... HAHA.
    Some times the business folds before your rebate is approved.

    Isn't that a stinker? What is that anyway. Approving your rebate? What for? You mean they get at whim to NOT send it? Dam stright thats what it means.

    Don't you feel specal?

    When I got my last dial up modem (about 5 years ago...) the old 28.8 k bauds were actually MORE than the 56k bauds why? A rebate... of course I priced BEFORE rebate and the 28.8s were cheaper that way and thats what I got.

    Even with my wireless PDA. I could buy the modem outright and then get a rebate or have the wireless provider ship it to me for free. You know I didn't go for the rebate THAT time..
    (I had to agree to one year service eather way... and this way I'm not paying for it)

    This guy uses his home address as a business address and as a person who owns a home buisness let me say thats the one thing you give up by running a business out of your home.
    It's the only draw back.

    The fact that the business contact information HAPPENDS to be his home address is not the fault of the targets of his advertising to get him to stop.

    He gave away his right to privatcy but his targets didn't. They are on the receaving end of his bad buisness ethics.
    They have every right to picket on his front lawn should they so chouse.

    I've discovered a few years back there is (by random luck) a larg number of people with my name.
    I get spam for those "you've got money comming" things becouse somebody who lives in Florida has insurence money coming and a few others elsewhere also have money comming. I've been cloned :)

    Ok more sereously the governments colating this information by name. So now not only do they have every traffic ticking ever gotten by one of my clones but they have the shopping habbits of my clones as well.

    It's just a matter of time before somebody knocks on my door becose my Colorado clone bought a bunch of Anarcist books or one clone changed his name to Ofta Bin Boofy..

    Or maybe I could get one of them arrested for driving with out a liccens (becouse I have no drivers liccens... and I don't drive)

    Actally I looked close and the alterations make it look like the civilian with the kid was being ordered to sit down.
    The two other pictures show a slightly diffrent picture.
    This small alteration changed the story.

    Patent restricted to no more than 10 years.
    Should your patent go unimplamented for a year after being issued you lose your patent.
    You may not 'protect' a patent you have never implamented.

    The idea of patents are that once you've implamented your unique idea that someone else dosen't copy you.
    The problem with thies new patent ploys is the patent holders never actually implamented the patent. Thies are just holds on technology other people would later actually do.
    It's a violation of the consept.

    Can he sue for malicous use of the legal system?
    I know this isn't the United States and I'm not famlure with the legal system where he is.

    But here if you can show the suing party is pushing this for non-legal issues you can sue back.
    It's such a flimsy thing here so I'm not even sure it's done elsewhere.

    I know when the server statistics are based on sales and when they are based on using survay.

    Using survays like "The Internet Os Counter" will tell you upfront they are inaccurate.
    But they are more accurate than sales.

    When you use server stats you will get false reads any denys but the rule of stats is that at a sifficiantly larg sample the random static evens out and you have a relitively accurate idea of what's out there.

    Sales however is lopsided. We know that for nearly every Linux unit there is one less Windows unit. Every bulk Windows liccens dubbles due to the bundled Windows liccens.

    So Windows is counted once when not used twice when used.
    Also not all systems go into production.

    However with Linux the majority of units are not sold but downloaded.

    More over for a given job you'll be looking at 4 Solarus boxen, 8 Linux boxen or 16 Win 2K boxen.
    So a single job may account for as many as 16 Win 2K sales but only 8 Linux sales and 4 Solarus sales.

    On low end jobs you may see only 1 Linux boxen but need redundency for Windows.

    Thats why sales numbers are helpful.

    Some day... not 2004... maybe 2010.. Linux may surpass Windows and on that day Microsofts sales numbers will continue to reflect a majority of desktops.

    Microsofts server sales stats show Microsoft in a majority of servers but using statis show a radicly diffrent picture.

    Both show Linux is eating Solarus alive. Not Microsoft...
    But the using statics show Microsoft has no where to go but up and sales have nowewere to go but down...

    Even dubble sales don't explain how Windows can go from nearly 75% to 90% in sales and 1% to 25% in using stats.
    Numbers just don't match up...
    Or maybe Microsoft has taken Enron accounting practaces to figuring unit sales.

    But first let's state for the record that this patent isn't exactly evil.
    Google would have done this anyway with out the patent. Or better said they HAVE done it with out a patent.

    So here we hold up the honnest application of patents. A company with a lagit invention has a pattent. Horray for google.

    I'm douptful Google will ever have a chance to enforce it's patent. So why get one?
    Becouse someone else may patent it and force Google to spend money proving they already exsist.

    Kinda like Fantacy Plaza BBS stores one click shopping about 10 to 20 years prior to Amazon.

    Your right you don't need a full featured server os in your pocket (I do but that's a diffrent story)
    As Solarus experts will tell you Linux isn't full featured as Linux experts will tell you it's not just a server os.

    Linux was born more or less a hacker os (White hat not Black hat) but it has so much potental byond that. It wouldn't be a good hacker os if it didn't.

    TiVO and Servers and home users and maybe one day PDAs. Maybe.....

    Dragonix seams to solve the Linux on a PDA problem by well running Linux on a Dragonball proccesor not a high end processor.
    I like it becouse it is itself open. You can't buy it in stores you gotta build it and as a result you get every feature you want all in one pacage. Want 802.11b? Sure wire it in. MP3? Hacked and done. Bluetooth? Sodering iron and your good to go.
    I like it a lot...

    But wait did you notice the tone? Yep I never held one in my life. I don't know if it dose the job. I hope it dose becouse Handspring discontinued the Visor so when I need to upgrade thats where I'm going.

    Yes I have a PalmOs device. I figure by the time I'm ready to upgrade the kinks will be gone from the Dragonix PDA.
    I won't be going Zarus or Wince and as my favoret upgradable PDA is discontinued I've only one choice. If needed I'll upgrade the battery becouse battery life is the second most important thing to me.....

    Telnet access is the most important. Like I said I need a server in my pocket and the best way to get that is to use a free unix shell acount over a wireless PDA....

    I've used Mac for years to do my job when one day Microsoft bought out the company I work for.
    I continued to use Mac becouse they said I could. But I'd find people stealing my pens and every now and then someone would say "Your still using THAT?" and "No wonder your late". The later being very annoying considering I'm the only one on the team who is consistantly ahead of scedual.
    Then project team members would complain they couldn't open my files. They would automaticly try to open my files in some funky format for the Atari 800 or Commodore 64 that Windows never supported anyway instead of the Microsoft office formats I saved them in.

    Then I cought someone sitting at my computer trying to log in. I lock it down as a matter of habbit so I asked him what he's up to and he said he needed files I didn't have. He assumed becouse they were messed up that they came from me and were in a Mac format. Turns out to be a garbage file from someones experement.

    After the monkey left in my cubical urinating on my Mac HQ sent down a Windows system.
    Thats when I switched.
    After that I couldn't get my work done as the computer couldn't handle the work load. I was eventually fired.

    Now I work a a fast food place using Windows NT for the regasture. No I'm tech support.. opp there's my beeper again. Somebody must have ordered the super god burger specal 5 that always takes out the whole network.

    If there was such an animal no I wouldn't use it.
    Let us assume the most unlikely.
    Gnu-Windows being totally GPLed and every issue everyone has ever expressed has bern adressed with solutins that keep it good for the forseeable future.
    Microsoft has one major isdue and that is backing out when someone else benifits. Not just when they don't benifit but when someone else benifits more.
    They are just sneeky and don't need to break any laws to gain controll.
    Swap out GPLed code over a piriod of five years leaving you with a commertal Linux clone with none of the gpled code base.

    A $200 Walmart pc runs Linux.
    A $9 a month isp needs Windows.
    In short if you have a $200 pc your using $20 isp service.
    If your paying $9/mo your using a $1000 pc.

    I must add that people look at $40 a month and think 'to much'.
    But for the poor that's the price of dial up.
    It's not that they pay anything more we just igore a good chunk of the cost. The phone line.
    Many poor don't have a phone eather using a pay phone when they want to make a phone call.
    So they add the phone line into the total price.. Even the $9 service becomes $29 in that light.
    The power line service will not do it for them. More than likely the powerline service will be $40 a month.

    It's easy to see a mental devide when one dose not exsist becouse we can find solutions to other peoples problems that are hard to find and may not work.
    I pay $20 a month for cable service. They give it to me at 64k baud. No phone line just cable hardware and my work station.

    Easy solution for spam and taxing the net.
    Put a tax on spam.
    As it's relitivly hard to track spam tax it on the 2,000 rule. Assume each spammer is sending out 2,000 spams a day and tax acordingly.
    Then spammers prepay for the days weeks or months they plan to spam.
    Then they must include a valid spammers tax code in every spam and we can look it up and see who they are etc.
    To misuse, reliccens, abuse or forge a spam liccens results in a stiff fine or jail time.

    The taxes go to the state the spammer is operating from.
    Spam liccenses are like sales permits if you present simbody elses expect some jail time.

    American animation is usually a string of self containned storys with the same characters in similare situations over and over. The story never progresses.
    Comics that do progress are usually addaptions.
    Menga storys have gradual progression to an ending.
    Pokemon and Yugi asside.
    To continue Dragon Ball a new plot is made. Dragon Ball ends and DBZ begins.
    Lain ends.
    Macros ends.
    Bugs Bunny and Micky Mouse never end.
    Yogi Bear evolved a bit but the main story is prepetual with no possable end.
    Some Amerian comics have addopted progression but it's usually short.
    Anime stops at the end of the season. No TV exec saying "keep it going".
    Yugi and Pokemn give you the sense of progression and while we know they won't ever end it's more compelling that the main plot is never stalled.
    In Stargate Infinity the backstory dosen't progress much if ever.

    Iraq: Having the case argued and presented plug ears and clame the evedence dosen't exsist.
    (Those who say the evedence is not compelling, invalid etc are not in this group. To review and dismiss is not the same as ignoring reality.)

    The guy to get credit mearly wants it for marketting purposes.
    The guy to clame credit is bitter for his lack of fame.. and aware of an earlier game.
    The guy who deserves credit never sought it out nore cares to receave it just as happy to let somebody else take credit.

    In short
    The father of video games is like most fathers. Didn't give birth but was there to nuture guide and premote it...
    The mother just as happy to see it do well reguardless of who gets credit.

    That said... Tesla may have at least been tempted to make a video game to play with Edison involving something that emits a 'death ray'. He might even be disposed to use Edison's DC current seeing how Edison was so keen on how dangerous AC was and how safe DC was.
    Call it shock the monkey...
    Put grounding plates on the floor and an emmiter rod on the top.
    Hit a button to activate a metal floor tile. If you hit the wrong button nothing happends but if you hit the right one the medium (person standing on tile) permits connection... zap.. you win...

    The games over when Edison admits a DC shock could injure or kill him.
    Or when the shock actually dose.

    Might have passed through his head but... never done it.

    More than likely he never even considered it.

    I didn't mean to say that Windows security publications were poor or even sparce.
    I mean I never see ANYTHING untill I get so deep in the security arena that I can't see daylight.

    Your dead on the mark as to why OSS has so few commertal games. The Linux community dosen't take it even slightly sereously. Wow we have ONE GAME.. great.. now onward to the servers....
    Thats the same reason Microsoft's got problems in security. They foster the whole "it dosen't realy matter" addatude.

    Your right about certs... I hate saying that... (I'm Linux Admin certified by Bran bench but I don't think I'm really qualified..)
    Part of the problem I think is the whole point of certs to start with.
    You come out of collage knowing how to do it but also knowing your not any sort of expert.
    I've known certs who think they know everything. So thick headed that real experence will never sink in..
    It soo pisses me off.

    I'll not even begin to say bad about Microsofts support side.
    They make a sereous effort I'll give you that.
    However.... Microsoft dosen't even take the e-mail worm issue sereously enough to correct the public when the news calls em VIRUSES.
    After all most *NIX people know if it's a virus it'll never happen on Unix with out doing something dumb.
    But who in there right mind would clame a Unix system is immune to WORMS.
    And "Just don't open file attachments".. Phlese.. Might as well just addopt the whole "If your not an expert you have no business using a computer" addatude Linux only recently dumped for the pure stupidity of it.

    Microsoft isn't responsable for admins who won't patch servers. However with it being such a big deal you'd think they's start dropping hints at the least "Dear Boss man If your admin isn't patching the server he isn't doing his job.. Your friend B.Gates"...
    They do get hot and heavy on the software piracy thing and yes people do it anyway. However Microsoft makes a sereous effort to stop that. And before you misunderstand me I'm TOTALLY behind them on that.
    It's a tottaly bad thing for everyone. It's a loss of money for Microsoft and it's a loss of potental users for Linux.
    Use Linux or pay up.. Thats the choice.. and those who pirate do nither hurting everyone.

    Lastly I know my spelling is bad.. but I don't have a 7 year old around to help me fix it :)

    My whole point however is that it dosen't matter how many good books or e-text exsist to secure Windows if it takes a research expert to find em.

    One key point with any given platform is you almost have to slap people accrost the head to get them to know something exsists.
    Linux "You bytch security"
    Windows "Games baybe"

    Let's go away from the hot and enter in the area where it's nowhere near as personal.

    Amiga... for YEARS I've NEVER been able to get ANYONE to accept that Amiga can do business. A tiny handful of develupers would make business software etc.
    As far as most people were conserned it's games games games. Today people recognise the true power of the Amiga yet it's almost like people have a brain sesure before they realise an Amiga can do business.
    Amiga users knew better. But the rest of the world didn't

    Macintosh. Even today people insist the Mac can't do anything sereous. Apple premoted it hard as "User Friendly" and just never spoke of it's power.

    Palm Os.. How many people realise you can post to Slashdot from a small handspring visor neo? I do.
    (Thats why my spelling sucks.. errr one reason.. let's not forget I could have entered it correctly the first time and just didn't bother or I could fix it and didn't care.
    Why? Editing's just not taken sereously on the PDA and I fall to the trap here..
    Talk tall... and still not walk the walk.. dumb.. anywho gotta take some blame)
