I've used the original vi for as long as I can remember, but I absolutely cannot stand vim. After toying with it for a few minutes, and realizing the ^O command didn't work in input mode, i then tested the:q! function, which did infact work.
Vinyl has always been the only choice of audiophiles. Analogue has a warmth and richness that digital recordings will never capture. The only thing CDs give you are convinience.
Sure, once Sci-Fi, Comedy Central, BBC and Cartoon Network start broadcasting over the air, THEN I will drop my cable.
The reason I have cable is that it gives me those extra channels I want, which is more than just "slightly better" than the crap that's broadcast over the airwaves.
Yeah, uh, I saw the slashdot story, and thought, "hey! I've gotta put up a link to my mp3 player!"
Then I realized that I never finished the website.
("uh... fuck.")
Well, I threw together what I could in a short time in elvis (the hardware sections were already up). Whatever. It's there now, and a tarball is available. Enjoy. >:)
My MP3 player, BLAINE, cost me under $250 to build, and has 40GB of space. Right now, it's at around 78% capacity, and has 3983 songs by 387 artists on 302 albumbs!
Of course, it required that I wrote my own software and built my own hardware; but it's worth it to be driving around with 40 GB of throbbing MP3 goodness.
Look at who's sponsoring the bills on encryption and wiretapping. See that little "D" next to their names? That means "democrat".
For as long as I can remember, democrat == liberal.
New! From the people who brought you gun control, Affirmitive Action (tm), and the term "Politically Correct"; it's the Anti-Encryption Act! Act now, before we completely take away your rights to use a computer!
Well, you _could_ just put it in a normal cd player and connect your sterio's output to your sound card. Sure, it takes more time and effort; but _somoene_ would go through the trouble.
Or, as you say, a hax0r (bored 15-year-old) will probably find a way to do it. I just hope the said hax0r doesn't leave a trail back to him (DMCA, anyone?)
That's such a typical liberal attitude. Willing to give up a little more liberty for the illusion of security (no, I will not use that famous Lincoln quote).
I'm sure that I'll get crucified for making this analogy, but I think that technology is now having a fate parallel to that of guns. Someone uses a gun to commit a crime, and *bang* (no pun intended), we suddenly need tougher gun laws. Does it change anything? No. Does it stop future crimes? No. The only thing it manages to do is make life harder for (generally) law-abiding citizens.
The liberals used to push their causes on the basis of "protecting our children". Now they have the ultimate platform: terrorism. Well, privicy was fun while it lasted. I just hope that those terrorists will use our approved technologies so we can prevent the events of 9/11 from happening again.
And then our walls of tape-driven supercomputers plays tic-tac-toe in a valient effort to redirect the planes. Little do they now, the only way to win is not to play.
In case you haven't noticed, your vote never counted for anything greater than local offices (and even there it's a stretch). You bring up the Election of 2000; and it's true: there is nothing _forcing_ the electorites to vote for the winning party.
These people need to be beaten to death with a lead pipe, tortured in the most horrible ways, and have their remains set on fire, then pissed out. Then you take all the bodies, blend them together and dump them in a volcano. Goodby middle east!
Sounds like npoole wants to change the quality of his workday, not necessarily the quality of the software he produces.
They're one in the same. I know from personal experience that if I'm not motivated by anything more than just getting the job done, then I won't produce the same quality code that I would have under favorable circumstances. Not due to time constraints, but because there's no motivation for me to do anything more than the bare minimum. This is why I'm a programmer and not just another corprate slob; because I take pride in my work, but that's not possible when you're being treated like a code monkey.
How the hell did the parent deserve "troll"? He expresses a valid argument, though not one I particularly agree with. Way to have your heads up your asses, moderators.
Or just "[boot name] single". Most distros don't bother to require a login at the single user runlevel. I can see how this can be a Good Thing (i.e., libcrypt is fux0red), but if that computer is in a public place, yer screwed.
Sure. Your lyrics can be GPL'd.
Never before did my sig so aptly apply to a story.

Use elvis. It's just a better editor.

Or just build your own. Mine cost under $250 for 40 GB >:)
(This space used to avoid the lameness filter... so, how's the wife and kids? That's good. Me? Oh, I'm doing fine, thanks....)
Erm...

OK, that's enough shameless plugs for me.

Get real.
And if you're a vi user; you too know the majic of :s///. Emacs users may have something similar, but, I wouldn't know.
(note my neutral wording as to prevent a vi vs. emacs flame thread)

Cheering in the streets.

So then whenever you go out in public, wear a George W. Bush mask.

No one said you have to use an Adobe product to view the output of one.

if it is opensource...i could configure it, write my own bugs, and then find them!!!
Uh, no. That's just stupid.
Fnord? Hail Eris!
Nah, they sell t-shirts too.
Really, all you ever really need to know is that model X Athlon beats nnnnMHz Intel chip, and there are many sources that will measure that for you.
...Lies, damn lies, and benchmarks
