Apple not giving back? Darwin is completely open sourced, qtss is also, openplay, cdsa (data security architecture), and a slew of documentation are all available on opensource.apple.com...
You don't know what you're talking about. Apple's hardware isn't that over priced anymore, their software kicks the shit out of many of it's competitors. It's based on open source technology, and they give back. What's your problem?
Sun released a JDK because their Cobalt customers demanded support that wasn't there before. Sun is jumping on the bandwagon fast with their "Cobalt OS"...that and the user interface are the reasons they bought Cobalt Networks.
You won't find them helping too much with a SPARC port of Linux, but they release cheap x86 hardware to run their software.
why is this modded as a troll? It would be exactly like what he has done with them. Stop being so one sided in your thought process, it does NO ONE any good being that way.

Falling sales that are being seen are from me not buying new cds anymore but going to different stores and paying $5 for a used one. Therefore they don't get the $15 from me! Also, i tend to buy from very small stores that don't have deals to give some of that money back.
Sun Microsystems now owns a company called Chilisoft. There product Chili!ASP works perfectly with ASP code. There's NO reason to use any Microsoft IIS server if you're complaint is ASP code.
you come through Vermont right? 99.9 has some alternative music that you can pick up near montperlier I believe. Should be with you all the up to Montreal. It's not bad...commercial music.
I can honestly say I do not find cars whizzing by at 200+mph interesting at all. I have better things to do with my time than sit and watch TV or waste money watching cars speed around a track like greyhounds.
It's awfully good of you to say there are much better books, but not list them.
I'm glad I've learned from your post!
you forgot a ')". I suppose every rant that length does, but for some reason today, i was looking for it.
A beowulf of computers utilizing this!

Does this mean that they may secretly have the abilities to create dinosaurs?
No one would share that information, just ask InGen...
Linux is not unix...I'm a troll.
but but...how can we steal information if it's client side? :)

The Delorean was supposed to be like that too...
:)
I know this because I'm working on one now
Well, maybe they just don't want to. They have to be careful with the QT license. The GTK license is gpl'd...

how is this interesting? It's the same damn thing that people say whenever someone says you may be able to replace this for cheaper...
Prove it costs more please.
And I needed my N'Sync fix...oh well. Guess I'll move to little Miss Spears.
Sun Microsystems uses Linux on their level I/II tech support for the cobalt appliances. I think there are 8 of them right now.
...you didn't lose that money...you never had it to lose it. It wasn't like "oops, where did my money go?"
What you lost was expected revenue. Something you can NEVER guarantee. I hate when customers call complaining about them losing money.
I lost some money once...it was a $20 bill and since then I've stopped putting cash in my shoe...

I have been using gentoo now since rc5 was first released. It's really good. A little buggy, but what do you expect from a pre 1.0 release?
The portage system is a great idea and they are fixing bugs with every release. Rc6 is definitely usable.
Can't hurt to check it out, right? The only real problem is the install, but if you know chroot, there isn't a problem.

wow retards? Did someone forget to drink their morning cup of happiness?
Do you happen to have the source rpms for it also? I'm looking into maybe taking the project over but I need source code, not binaries.

Sony, while giving us the chance to burn our data on their drives wanted to firewall our traffic at our houses.
I think most distributions have one now.
Redhat has up2date
Gentoo has emerge
debian has apt-get
I'm not sure about mandrake or suse yet, but, hell, there really is no excuse to not updating your system. *shrugs*
I don't know of a better x86 system for $1000. 500 Mhz UltraIIe's will probably beat any PIII out at the moment. Now for the ia64, who knows.
I don't do benchmarks, they don't convince me, i need to compile a kernel or two, xfree86 and such before I will compare systems.
