You can't call Lucas independent anymore. When the Lucas conglomerate (films, arts, etc) came about, he didn't have to fund everything himself, people threw money at him.
Don't insult independent film makers by putting them in the same category. Independent film makers go out, seek money and if they are lucky, get enough to cover the cost of filming a lucas film for ONE day.
American Graffiti was an independent film, maybe even Episode 4...but these new ones are corporate films, just like Spiderman.
Think of it this way, if a service was offered to listen to internet radio via a login at a flat rate a month, say $10/mnth...
I couldn't listen to that all the time, which is what I would pay for. Just by listening to streaming audio, I'm forced to limit my time, which is what I'm paying $50/mnth for just for the pipe, plus this theoretical $10/mnth.
See what I mean? It's dumb, throttled users is better, I do major transfers (ISO's, file transfers, etc) at night, and I listen to TTT all the time.
That's the reason I paid for DSL, I might just consider the T1 and supplying my apt and neighbors with it just to get around this.
Actually, where I come from, Oakenfold is semi popular and less underground than you might think. The fact that I introduced him to a lot of my friends is, in fact, my fault. But, I haven't liked him less because of it. He sells out shows left and right across the US, what the hell is underground if he sells out most US shows and Arenas in Canada?
Macintosh - yeah, for years they had the best GUIs, but let's face it, up until recently Macs sucked at everything else. OS 9 made Windows 98 look like a magical technological feat of engineering. There was a reason their market share dropped so rapidly.
Why are you comparing an older operating system when we are talking about now? Compare OS X to Windows XP or Win 2k...don't compare OS 9 to anything anymore. Apple is dropping it, why don't you?
how was this insightful??? I answered his goddamned question!
Ok, moderators. I'm really impressed by this. I spout answer to movie trivia on an Aibo based thread and I get insightful. When I post something that has to do with it, I either get ignored or modded down...
Titanic has a stupid soundtrack that ONE song was played thousands of times, if it was on TV for ads too, I never saw them (don't have a tv). I haven't been inundated with Spider-Man stuff too much because i haven't seen any of it on TV.
I hated Titanic before I saw it because of the Soundtrack, and Leonardo Dicapprio...he plays a retard so much better.
Rap has been doing this forever, it's called sampling. It's deemed fair use and has been contested in court multiple times.
Puff Daddy did it with Led Zeppelin.
It's creating something new and exciting, whether or not it's legal is not going to change but the fact that this is another way of creating music. Chemists take two things, mix them together and create something new. Why can't musicians?
No, the KDE logo is the gear with the K in it. If KDE wanted to brand their name with the gear only they wouldn't have the K in it.
I can take the smiley face of the MacOS and instead of the standard square look and the split face (the nose) I can put a cirlce around it or something...Apple can't sue me for that.
RiscOS can use the gear as long as they don't utilize the K and continue not getting away without getting in trouble.
I already have. In fact, I haven't seen any new movies in a very long time. Those that I watch, I pay the Eastman Theater to help keep old films still in near production quality.
Donations to houses that keep old films is my way of paying for my enjoyment. I just watched The Acid Eaters(damn wierd movie) for $5...a movie from 1967.
Eastman/Kodak does have some good things that I respect them for. Their film school is one of them.
They were on the beach around a camp fire smoking a pipe, Ogre said it. Give me my points damnit!

Bad Troll, no cookie. Aqua is the true beauty of OS X and apple wouldn't put the money into support for the convoluted hardware web that is PC architecture.
I remember when I bought my Blade 100 I was able to download the Solaris install discs for free.

The Apple Store employees work commission free. They don't push their products on you, I was there and he wanted to know if the Dual G4 1GHz was too much and offerred me a lesser expensive package.
They aren't car dealers, they are selling a product to you, they don't get any cutbacks if they sell or not.
I agree! I was hoping with this release to Linux they would go back to the PPC architecture that they had when they started programming for BeOS.
Hopefully they will port it to OSX, until then I'm stuck with Office v. X. My employer will be happier too, they won't have to buy it for the next Mac user.
Actually the processor isn't proprietary. IBM/Motorola have specs on the processor and how to build your own PPC (not apple) mobo. Granted the only thing holding back open apple hardware is the hardware ROM.
It seems more open than the old IBM PS series of pcs
In case you haven't been paying attention (which i'm sure because well you seem to be a troll), HURD is part of the entire GNU system. Which means, GPL.
Choosing a kernel isn't difficult, you have two choices, monolithic or microkernel...not too difficult. And apps that don't run out of the box can be recompiled as long as they don't make linux specific kernel calls. Userland programs (end user programs more specifically) don't make linux specific kernel calls and they will compile fine on HURD.
I agree with you completely. I think those that are bashing HURD at this point in time are of one or two camps:
1) Those that are using linux because they are "on the bandwagon" and HURD isn't a buzz word at all.
or 2) Those that feel they completely used all their resources learning how things work on linux and if the HURD takes off, they will be out of the job...
Well those of you who are actually using linux because it's Free...both beer and speach should be looking forward to the HURD. It's built on a MicroKernel...which is a hell of a lot easier to work on than the monolithic kernels that Linux is based upon.
I hear this a lot. "If I can't build the box, i don't want it"...
I don't understand the point, i really don't. I own two Apple PPC boxes and three pc's that I' build from scratch.
Personally, I don't like the idea behind pcs...sure there is choice, but not when something doesn't work in linux as well because drivers aren't there...or whatever.
Macs are elegant, but they are as costly as a Dell and they are prettier in my opinion.
If you want to build your own box, fine, but don't bitch that you can't use OS X. Those of us who want to support Apple in their Hardware Endeavors get the ability to run OS X...those who don't, lose out.

don't be fooled into thinking apple creates their own DVD r/w's or zip drives...
