The 20-second timer is to prevent the "spamming troll" (before it was implemented, you could write a story and hit the submit button a zillion times and a zillion copies of your post would appear. Very annoying).
If you use IE, then just hit "reload" on the 20-second timer warning page and resubmit the data. It'll go through then.
The hard one -- I'd love the ability to go back and revise posts for typos or even delete them if I realize I've said something false.
The abuse for "modified" comments would be immense (ie - whore to +5 quickly to be on top of the comments, then change all your links to goatse). Deletion isn't, though. I like that idea (although what happens to mods and replied?).
Moderation by editors should be noted as such. This would reduce (or confirm) a lot of the conspiracy theories around here
Yeah, like michael would agree to that (I'm teasin michael... don't mod me down!);-)
I don't think editors should have mod points at all! Unlimited mod points *DESTROY* the moderation system by definition. They should trust in the system they designed!!
I'll also agree that the +1 bonus should be off by default.
I think majority will rule, and this one come in effect quickly.
How about a lameness filter against HTML posts where more than 30% of the displayed text is formatted? This would help out people who forget to close a tag and don't bother to preview, and reduce readability problems caused by people who want to use all bold. (In a related vein, does the Code option for post formatting do anything but generate unreadable posts? If people want to post code, let them use HTML.)
How about killing the lameness filter altogether?
We all hate it, and it doesn't stop the trolling. Plus, isn't it a form of *censoring* (gasp!)??
Honestly, my only suggestion (both for comments AND articles) is to have the terminator of every type of valid HTML tag forced at the end (already done on comments). This will prevent bleeding of comments (and no more "Close you italics flag!" comments).
Maybe I'm just an old-school style computer guy, but is fan noise really that big of a deal? My computer is in an infants room and it doesn't wake up the baby (counterstrike pumped through 4 speakers does, but that's beside the point). Honestly, who has a huge issue with fan noise?
And why always complain about CPU fan noise? Doesn't the fans in the power supply make more noise, anyway?
Although I'd *love* to see the shuttles and space system revamped to make it more efficent by someone other than the lowest bidder; opening up the space system allows for industry corruption. What happens when someone gets a monopoly in space? Everytime you try to star gaze you have to distinguise the stars from the MS logos? If we were to commericialize space, there will need to be some heavy duty restrictions.
But I'm sure the illuminati already knows that... *loud ominious thunder*
Last year of school is concentrating on heavy duty programming in stuff like proofs and hard data structures. You don't have to do that for your job. Sysadmin, or DBA hardly has any major programming (usually just scripting)!
Make sure your final project is something that is interesting (make a little game!). School is just getting to you. Finish your degree and get a job that interestes you. CS has a lot of little sub-fields you can get into.
Most of the logo's are translucent. Like the scores/info of a football game, if its semi-translucent, you can still see the action when it happens where the score is.
Honestly, you don't pay for local stations, the advertisers do. So its not really your choice.
And another thing, when I post a message, do I really need to see that slashdot logo? Its taking up my valuable website art.
A smart door would be interesting though. One that knew your regular visitors and always opened for them, and locked strangers out. Also with the ability to be constantly locked and other stuff.
Another thing, which I failed to mention in my previous reply is: although its hard to go from *NIX to Windows, it is *not* difficult to go from Window to Linux, and that, too, could be a breaking point of helping linux take MS' share of the server market.
The only big issue is the number of windows admin's vs *NIX admins. Theres...so...many...of...them...;-)
Imagine the cost to port over a bunch of stuff already created in a UNIX environment to Windows. It wasn't necessarily the cost of the windows boxen as much as it was the porting.
Going from Sun to Linux is much easier than *NIX to Windows.
Most dot-coms failed because of a bad business plan.
Why? Cause the management were a bunch of nerds that had no experience with business plans.
Not to mention trying to convince a tech-savvy management team to use open source vs. proprietary is hard enough.
Also notice, that if you talk to an open source company's CEO, he'll have great ideas on how open source can make money in theory. But what open source companies have made money in practice???
Its like a CD. If its nothing but music, its a music CD. If it has computer (non-music) data, its software.
If its something I can use in my DVD player (attached to the TV, not computer), and get the full potential of the DVD, its a film. If there's extra stuff only my computer DVD-ROM can read, its software.

Absolutely!
Karma whore quickly to get +5 score, then fix all your links to goatse.
Trolling would be more artistic this way, but slashdot would die of abuse.
which will include subscriptions
Ok.. enough hinting at subscriptions. Lets get it out in the open. Looks like its a shoe-in, so tell us the current plan, please...
Another thing...
By looking at the pictures, it appears that the "radiator" is replacing the heatsink, and they still have fans on top.
a noisy 7,000rpm fan

Sorry, but am I the only one to notice Transmeta (VA in Red) Vs. VA "Software" (Transmeta in Red)??
Looks like similar fates, I'm afraid...
Absolutely true!

Although you'll be modded down as a troll, I'm right behind your opinion.

Avoid Harry Potter, cause it'll have a longer trailer attached to it (or just go to movies 15 minutes late and miss all the trailers).
But then again, having digital storage implanted in your body would be kinda cool - I can think of one neat place to put a storage device...
BUT, Upgrades would be a bitch...
A smart door would be interesting though. One that knew your regular visitors and always opened for them, and locked strangers out. Also with the ability to be constantly locked and other stuff.
Very star-trekkie...
Already is one.
You are behind the times.
Actually, I heard of this one, and one that has a tracking/emergency system in case of mugging/kidnapping. Seriously!
I thought it was too much when I heard of the "Smart e-toilet".
... on the word "Afghan", doesn't it?
:-P
Ok ok, just mod me down
LOL! Wish I had some mod points.
There's no doubt he's answering his questions at least THROUGH a lawyer. A damn good one at that.

You make a point, but its rather weak.
Imagine the cost to port over a bunch of stuff already created in a UNIX environment to Windows. It wasn't necessarily the cost of the windows boxen as much as it was the porting.
Going from Sun to Linux is much easier than *NIX to Windows.
Cause I coulda sworn I mentioned this before.
;-)
Where's my credit??
... a link full of answers.
Talk about standard "AskSlashdot"...
J2EE
.NET can come up with.
C# has nothing that can compair to J2EE. The bonus' you get with J2EE in a large-scale system will easily destroy anything
How true, how true.

Over simplified? Probably.
