Then you've never heard his announcement of the ingredient in the first Natto battle. "Naaahhhhhhh-TO!" [in a disgusted voice] You know when you make Rice Krispies Squares, and the marshmallow is runny and stringy and you transfer it to the pan to cool? You know how that looks? Picture that with black beans instead of Rice Krispies. THAT'S what Natto looks like.
VB is a good language for teaching someone to program. The VB6 version of BASIC is fairly good for teaching about structure -- you're less likely to run into teh GOTO spaghetti that old BASIC programs used =). Also, if you use VB, you get a nice graphical app up in no time without fooling around with anything, well, messy. You can teach a kid to put a textbox, a button, and some sort of output on a form (another textbox?), then write the couple of lines to Do Stuff. Type "Fred", press button, second box says "Hello Fred!" Great first program!
Hear hear. My 98 box at home crashes (always Explorer =) maybe twice a day doing intensive work (coding and gaming). My NT box at work (work only, frown) has crashed once in three months. Why an OS this reliable gets such bad press for "crashing every hour" is beyond me.
Yes, I'm carefully sidestepping any mention of security here =).

Fortunately shipping seems to stay fairly level even if you pack a few more things on. Sure, 18-ish-percent shipping is steep. But buy one o' them Perl shirts, some caffeinated mints, and maybe a sticker or two, and suddenly your shipping is a mere 5% of your bill.
Course then you're blowing upwards of $100, but it's thinkgeek, dude!
Hotrodding as an analogy to overclocking is nothing new. My PC features a sweet quad chrome smokestack coming out the right side of the candy-apple red case. I've actually hooked up a real turbocharger to the "turbo" button -- it spins the fan at 500krpm for about 10 seconds for RAPID cooling. And of course that slap of red paint on both the CPU and the memory helped the old benchmarks.
I only have one problem. How do I get it to stop popping wheelies every time I start Q3A?
That if I own a web server I shouldn't be allowed to take down whatever I want to?
No, if you own a web server, you shouldn't feel that you have to take down whatever someone else wants you to.
You _don't_ have to take something down because someone else wants you to. But if you own a web server, then you _do_ have to be aware of (IANAL) legal precedent for having your ass sued as the result of a customer's page. You're running a business and are under no obligation to provide a soapbox for anything that (a) you disagree with or (b) could result in costly litigation.
So an ISP owner, seeing anti-defamation lawsuits against other ISPs hitting the courts and causing major damages, is asked the question, "You are hosting a possibly defamatory web site. What do you do?" That owner is expected to completely support the site designer regardless of the specific contents? The example in the story was innocuous, but as a businessman, I'd check the site out and suspend it if it was a possible problem. This isn't a free speech issue. This is a "it's my damn ass so I'm going to protect it" issue.
OTOH, The ISP folk also have to support their customers, or they won't stay in business. It's fairly sure that no legit site is going to come down as the result of a crank complaint. The interviews of the ISP owners were rather leading.
Sigh, I can see the skript kidz hitting port 919 constantly now. D00D 1 0WN J00R CH33Z3 WH1Z!!!1!

However, I read in EE Times (I think it was) about a new breakthrough in Peltier technology: by doping the module with a little Cesium, they got the open circuit temperature drop to 200 degrees C. Still won't move any more heat, but it'll move it over a larger temperature difference.
Is this a troll from alt.cesium? Will it make great julienne fries and give me thin thighs, as well?
I am about to purchase a Peltier to cool my K7 600. I'm not even going to overclock the processor! I'm trying to prolong the life of my processor (electron migration and all that jazz). etc. etc. $219 etc.
Migration shmigration. I've overclocked every CPU I've ever owned with no problems. And what's the worst that can happen? You blow a CPU after a year? You'll be able to buy a better CPU than a K7600 for $219 in March 2001, bubbi.
You should know also that Peltiers, while keeping your CPU nice and chilly, can/will heat up your case quite a bit. If you go this route you'll have to invest in a case fan if you don't have one already, to protect the other heat-sensitive components (video card, NIC, hard drives, everything else).
Also, attaching a Peltier is one of the few things I see done stupidly by many geeks. In most cases we are bright enough to leap into the fray and get things right, or right-ish, the first time. If you mess up attaching a Peltier, you can get condensation in the wrong places, and then you'll be taking that gold card out of your wallet again.
Summary: put $219 back in wallet. Go buy lots of beer and have a LAN party. Of course, if you're running some critical database server or something, all this goes out the window. But I'd still go with better fans before a Peltier, even though the Peltier is FAR more Reeeet.
