The software may be licensed, but the hardware not in a long shot. Either way even if the software in question is not mine, If it doesn't do what I expect it to do I think I have a right to tinker with it in the privacy of my living room, and may be share my findings with the rest of the planet. What I don't -since it is not mine- have a right to is to redistribute that said software in any form. (b is obviously subject to licensing terms and debatable before a judge given sufficient resources -time/monney-).
You might want to look up the meaning of 'subsidized', just because they are making a profit doesn't mean it isn't subsidized.
As I understand it subsidized means that the price I'm paying doesn't cover the retail price of the thing I'm buying something full price and someone somewhere (usually gov) is paying the difference. If a carrier gives me a phone for 20$ and forces me take a 2/3 years contract that is a subsidized phone (but still mine, not leasing it for 3 years). If I buy it full retail price (400$) where is the subsidy??
If I'm paying 300$ for a PS3 and with that price they are making profit I fail to see how it is still subsidized. (please explain).
Also if people truly do just want a system to run homebrew on why not just buy the dev kit? It's basically an unlocked, unsubsidized PS3.
the retail PS3 isn't subsidized anymore. They are making profit on each unit sold and have been since at least the launch of the slim.
with that said, subsidized or not, how that makes any difference ?? for all I know I "bought" the damn thing, i'm not renting it (it said so on bill).
you mean it like they pushed (Still pushing) to get more aggressive laws? Yeah it makes sense, it only natural that they try and protect the things they feel are theirs (everybody in a way has that sens of entitlement thing:), merit is something else).
In this the history seam like repeating it self. A bunch of fed up people trying to riot and revolt against an "unjust system".
From the reason if existence -or hopefully- of the copyright laws to the movie studios themselves -once upon a time those movie studios we know today were the indies https://secure.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/wiki/Independent_film#History-.
Interestingly, musicians have faced this problem before, when they discovered that anybody that heard their song could just go somewhere else and play that very same song themselves without fear of repercussions. This fueled the invention of copyrights.
I'm no historian but I thought that the origin of copyright found it self in the emergence of printing press.
And that the very first Act -Statute of Anne- blow the monopoly (very very tight control) over the book publishing (where ahthors had practically no rights) of some guild caled the stationer's company -- hence COPYright?--. https://secure.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/wiki/Copyright_law#History
I read into it copyright was invented (or pushed into existence) by a buch of fed up people to freee them from some kind of control. There is some kind of resemblance with the current situation.
For a year now I use it on daily basis. So far I neither hate it nor regret buying the macbook.
someone said (one of the replie to my post) that you can buy OSX somehow for 179$ - let's assume that it is possible-. As high as may sound it is not as high as windows 7 (199 for the low end basic edition to more than 300).
Kind of remind me of the debale of windows NT server VS workstation.
ass holes are ass holes, no matter what you do they'll try to screw you.
The P2P scene is no exception. There is no way to say there are more ass holes than "good" people (like the one you;re replying to) or the inverse.
I for one do the same as both, download if I find, don't actively look for stuff, Except may be books (math) that I need but are too pricy to buy them in heat of the moment (and usually only need few pages) , which I will eventually buy (hard copies no ebooks ) if I find them usefull.
Bell throttles only P2P (torrent anything else I don;t know about) or anything mistaken for P2P. You can get around it using a VPN/Proxy. Whereas in this case Orange is throttling a website (HTTP) access.
well the console is certainly yours, but the service is theirs... and they can refuse service to anyone for anything (you can still may be sue them if you want for discrimination or something but that's not a certain win). And it is somewhere in the ToS of Xbox live / PSN.
which provider you're talking about ?????
Every single f*** DSL serving ISP depends on f*** BELL/TELLUS for last mile. last CRTC decision on this topic was a GO for UBB. Want cable ??? it's either Rogers or Videotron.
Big 4 lobbied to get UBB and now every fucking last customer is going to taste it.
So again where is that provider you're talking about ???
Unless we're rich enough to be your own ISP/Lobby CRTC... we're SCREWED.
metldr key (the geohot's key) is not revocable without updating metldr, which is impossible to update. it is the second thing that get's loaded with that broken anything under is/can be broken or can be.
I not sure but I think the leaked key the one used by metldr to decrypte anything b below it.
That thing (metldr) is in some ROM burned on the cpu chip it's encryption is specific to each console (or so I heard), so no way to update or change it via a firmware update.
The onlything above metlrd is I think the boot loader (like the iboot thing on the iphone/ipad, once broken no way to patch it -3gs newboot and 3gs oldboot)).
In other words Sony is fucked.
are you a judge? a lawyer ? or anything related??
The problem with fuzzy definitions is abuse. And illegal != criminal prosecution. So unless you have a very deep pocket, and you're on the receiving and of the suite intent or not means squat.
* "app" is a iMarketing crapware buzzword. Though it does match being a bastardized incomplete version of the word application, much like the half-arsed garbage that fills the "huge library of apps" often touted by the two main platforms. Its sad they expect people to pay for some of that absolute trash AND bend over to the spyware as well.

yeah I know, Kakaroto is actually my friend :)

is it still jailbreaking if one owns they keys to the jail? .. you just open the door and go for a walk when ever you wish.
you don;t break out
wasn't it yesterday ?
they should sue you for that. You just cost them the profit of all your future purchased games.
I don't like this particularly, but would you care to explain what those selfish publicity seeking did to the PSP that Sony didn't do?
buy them used ... and don't tell anybody.

Thirdly, there's no retail/OEM pricing available for OS X because it isn't sold as a separate product.
in the parent.

Yes they sel it alone (as an upgrade may be but still) Your whole point stil stand though. Their upgrade price is afordable (30$) compared to 150 (or somthing in that range) for an upgrade from M$.
PS: I hate apple !!!!

if that is sarcasm please ignore my previous post !
