First, let's all remember that DNS is a tree.. (SUN used to be the . in.com). Second, DNS does not share information between routers. Possible we were thinking of BGP or OSPF (or pick any dynamic routing protocol)? Though BGP is a fair to middlin' example of peer to peer, unless you have a lot of interfaces and a huge amount of memory, you are again just a node on a tree.
Except that any large vendor that could take advantage of buying in bulk pretty much had to sign per CPU licensing with microsoft.. the net effect being it was cheaper for both the retailer and the end consumer. The point is that if one wanted to buy a machine without windows, one would have to go elsewhere and end up paying more.
Your reply is a red herring. I suggest you go back and review the legal reasons why refunds were being made back in 1999/2000 instead of making sweeping comments that are not pertinent.
It's the same motivation that dropped floppy drives... I'd be pretty pissed if space was wasted with one.
I'd agree with your comment regarding cd-rom/DVD drive being optional except that they have it down to such a low weight that is bears no resemblence to the heavy drives of yesteryear. Plus, by having it built-in, it "just works" as it is 100% supported.
Well, additionally as it is hugely important in infrastructure uses... booting a laptop in firewire target mode is a HUGE win in getting snapshots. Conversely, booting to external firewire drive for putting back images is not a capability of USB yet (at least on Apple hardware).
Oh, has Vista been released? Has it gone gold so you can be so arrogant in your reply? Just because something is currently sane doesn't preclude a last minute decision to change the default behavior for some asinine reason.
However, more interesting is that both of these features/configurations can pretty easily be put into XP via windows update, yet MS has just about ZERO motivation to. They are probably clapping their hands wildly with all the holes being mentioned as it will be a motivating factor for people to shell out more cash for Vista.
works for me... worst case is if I need to make a call off my address book, and that would indicate a touch screen like a palm or iPaq. For everything else, click wheel would suffice.
There was a SONY store at the mall when I was christmas shopping.. I walked in. Everything was behind glass. You couldn't play/touch/feel anything interesting. It was exactly like shopping online, except in 3D.
wait... so the RFID in my new sneakers that are used for inventory is tied to my credit card and now whenever I walk past a sensor anywhere, it is picked up and can be logged? This place is getting double plus ungood.
No, I know exactly what you were saying. However, you mischaracterized a view purposely to setup a straw man. It was that transparent argument that I felt was idiotic. Obviously you are a little defensive. let me rephrase: Don't be an idiot and defend positions that aren't being attacked.
Well, in that case, then they are just being nice, so it's ok.
It would be dreadfully simple to setup a practically automated approval system. What is required isn't a signature, but a method of auditing. FISA was put in place to prevent an abuse of power... without third party tracking, there is no way to determine abuse of power. Surely the NSA can create and HAS the database of "here is what we wiretapped, and here is why it was done [keyword/social ties/origin of communication/etc]
May I conclude from your comment that (in return) foreign governments should also go through their courts before wiretapping their own citizens, but it's okay for them to spy on US citizens? For example by wholesale tapping of satellite communications? (yeah I know that's probably being done anyway, just asking about the ethics here).
Hmmm, your conclusion seems incorrect. Using courts to allow certain wiretaps makes an illegal act legal. Courts only have jurisdiction withing their own country (and international courts are a joke). What follows is that wiretapping other countries is still illegal.
Spying and espionage isn't given the greenlight. If I were to go to Spain and start recording calls from the French embassy, nobody is going to save me from arrest with the magic phrase: "Oh, that's alright then, he's not from here."
Real journalism does appear to be dead here in the US. Much of that is due to not having enough sources. Some is also due to the fact that people think that editorials are "News". Talk shows are not news.
The stock price had already gone down.. he just wanted to make the loss appear during the same tax year as his large gain. To do that, he had to do the transaction during the same year.
no no no, clearly the grandparent is German, ja?
True that.. so much for referencing their slogan... :)
No wonder this was posted under AC...
Why do you even come on here, just to be taken out like this?
[/irony]
But your clearly and idiot. [Image of a defanged viper gumming its prey] That was a pretty effective insult...
It's great to see a young person so in love with their grandfather.. it really warms the cockles of my heart, whatever the hell that means. . .
Besides, who would they pay, the guy that brought the suit and didn't even claim hearing loss?

Apparently you don't remember when they were forced to offer refunds because people couldn't buy computers without Windows pre-installed.

Thank god you didn't though.. "could have wrote that" indeed. :)
There's other search engines?!?

Well that certainly narrows down the list of suspect. . .

Same thing with black box voting: there needs to be a paper trail.
but of course you were aware of that.
