...we do start paying for music like this, and get mp3s in return, and the RIAA comes cruising along the networks and tags us for having "copyrighted content" on our computers?
...The speakers demonstrated for the crowd how an attacker can slip a tunneling CD into a CD-ROM drive, a Sega Dreamcast ( news - web sites) gaming console, or a Compaq iPaq, and connect to the network...
To be fair, any hacker who can slip a CD into an iPaq deserves net access from whoever they choose...

I went out and got myself a 486. I have it netboot off another machine so it has no need for a hard-disk (it boots from a floppy) and I do all my computing over vnc and X. It's really pretty much silent, only has the quiet PSU fan going (and if that starts to annoy me i'll go and get a PSU from QuietPC).
It's so quiet I can hear the VAXen in the basement:)
I found this a great book for when you are learning Python as a second or third language
I learnt python in two nights from it because as we all know, once you have the basics of CS in your head the language you use is just an implementation detail.
I know that in its current Nortel hands it's fine, they're hardly going to try and use it against all packet-filtering 'things' out there because it was originally written to cover ATM frames. Mind you, we'd have said that about SGI's OpenGL patents. Can anyone see Microsoft buying this patent off Nortel, or entering into a patent partnership deal, or swallowing Nortel Networks whole because it could used against Microsoft's competitors?
A general rule of computers is: the older they get, the more dusty they are and dust bunnies and their denser cousins are highly flammable. Unless you can keep such machines clean, it's probably safer to leave them off.
*runs around work turning off every VAX and Alpha in the datacentre* No, it's OK! Slashdot told me to do it!
*nods* the O'really line was designed by the BOFHCam bloke. You should see his site, that whole section's based around the o'really concept, it's mondo cool and he's got more designs there that copyleft haven't picked up yet.
yeah, didn't he say he was in the navy now and banned from working with nuclear subs, bombs etc becuase he's already received over the maximum safe dosage for a human being in their lifetime?
actually, there is a point to dropping the IDE in preperation for this part of an interview. The IDE is there to help you by syntax colouring etc, so you can get on with the more creative side of things. But a whiteboard doesn't have an IDE. You are trying to train yourself to code on a whiteboard, to jump through this interviewer's particular hoop. If you can get yourself used to writing without an IDE then you should be more comfortable writing code on a whiteboard.
Of course it makes no sense. Can you point out many things that *do* make sense? This world is all about jumping through hoops. If in your next interview you get asked to write code away from a computer what are you going to do? Are you going to stand there and complain that it makes no sense or or you going to jump through their hoop and do it?
Only graphical installs? What happens when you're working on a machine over SSH via a modem or SLIP link? Mandrake does have a fully graphical installation without going through each and every package. Uncheck the "show me a list of packages" checkbox in the install process.
Moron Troll.

No, you could do much worse. [qwest.com] Much worse, trust me.
No, I don't think you've ever dealt with BT, have you? Trust us.
Yes, but you're assuming our telco is clever enough to be able to do even a dry pair without messing it up. Which quite frankly, it isn't.
Hey, if you don't want that uVAX in the garage then i'll take it. Mmmmm, DEC *drool*
why? What have you done now? Why are you asking such an interesting question whilst chosing to remain anonymous?

*nods* it was a more dystopian look at things, but it is fairly close. I'd just finished reading it when this came up, too.
*nods* chance of getting mod privs should be linked to IQ. YOu want big? Get a VAX in yer basement :D
You do? It's very close to "Brave New World" by Aldous Huxley. The ISBN of the copy I have sitting in front of me is 0-00-654579-3.
...but where's Coke?

I dunno, Ceren in a Borg suit would work for me. I'd have to spank her bottom for going to the Dark side though.
Rawr.

I'd prefer not to scratch my phone my scraping it around my desk all day, thanks...
Since when has a mobile phone needed a trackpad/mechanical trackball anyway? We all seem to get along fine with up and down buttons...

I don't see the problem with rm -rf / , why don't you use that? It's hardly a huge point - just interested...
