I figured there must be a new virus... I've received about 20 emails or so in just a couple hours. They're all around 30-35k and they have random titles and subjects.
I suppose that is pretty insightful. Thanks for the answer...I guess that makes sense. Still seems like a weird solution, but this guy seems to have done pretty well for himself.
Sometimes, Pichinson and Sherwood's 60 employees are able to salvage troubled startups by cutting costs and training the executives to rethink their ways. Sherwood even brings in an FBI consultant specializing in hostage negotiation techniques to help management.
This is possibly an idle curiosity, but how is having hostage negotiating skills going to help out management? Or are these tech firms even worse off than we thought?
wow, I've been there. I had (and still do) a Tandy 1000 as my first computer. I think it was a 186, I'm not sure. It ran deskmate really well and had a neat midi program. I think the only stock game it came with was a version of hangman. I wasted so much time on that machine...the only word processor it had had about 3 commands including bold and italix. I couldn't even get Commander Keen to run on it! Stupid CGA graphics...However, I got a cool megaman game to run on it until I broke the disk. Oh, and some chess game.
I still have the computer and the dot matrix printer that goes with it (with the three different color printer ribbons! It was state of the art...).
I agree. That was fantastic. I saw that on Wednesday night and then saw RoTK today. I'd have to say that those two along with "Finding Nemo" are the best of this year.
For movies that were absolutely terrible I vote: "How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days" and "Anger Management" and "American Wedding" (I didn't bother finishing that even).
I have to admit, my slashdot fleece that I got a couple years ago is still my fleece of choice. It is incredibly comfortable and warm and looks just as good as when I got it. Also, I've had two other fleeces since I've gotten the slashdot one from thinkgeek, and they haven't fared nearly as well.
That's what I had my friends do...actually, they claimed they were sending out a mailing and wanted to include cds, but they said it was against policy or something. Meanwhile, I didn't have to come up with any fake story - they just asked how many.
I do pay for college, and I do learn in classes. However, I'm pretty good at listening to instructers and playing a game at the same time. Alt+tab comes in very handy for taking notes. I'll admit, the games I play aren't all that great - generally just emulators and roms and stuff...nothing complex.
I don't know now. At the time we had a couple of plans going. My plan was simple and useful - I wanted to build a cd holder out of the cds - one that sits vertically on the floor and has slots to hold jewel cases or dvds. However, both of my friends decided the best way to win the contest was to build a scooter (those razor scooter things were cool at the time). We drew up plans on autocad or something and I think we could have made it work (thought the thing would have been extremely heavy...), but we never did it. With all the cds I have now, I'm thinking about building a house.
oh man, a couple of years ago there was a contest on the internet to make creative things out of aol disks. I called up AOL using a number I found deep on their website and asked if I could get a bunch of cds shipped to me. The guy was like: "sure...how many?" I was a little surprised that he actually offered, so I ended up going with a low number of 250. I got a big bag of them in the mail two days later. My friends who were involved in our little project and I realized that we needed at least twice that many cds, so I had one of them call...they called the same number, said the same things I said, and couldn't get more than two cds at a time! Several other friends tried, and they got the same results. I tried again, and the guy would only send me one! I don't know how I did it, but I did get a huge bag of AOL cds (unfortunately, not ones with the dvd cases).
We never did finish (or start) our project, so now I have a big bag of aol cds under my desk at home, and I've been increasing the pile over the last couple years - all my friends send me their cds and neighbors too. The pile is huge, and I've probably got at least 400 now....when I finally make something with them, it's gonna be epic.
I actually use one of those tips - for classes where I don't have an internet connection available here at college, I install games on my laptop that I would never play otherwise. I rarely play games while I have a network connection. I'm pathetic. Oh, and when the network in our school was down (freaking kids with their stupid viruses), my roommate and I definitely made use of our "modems" and connected them to our phoneline and used dialup.
First we have region encoded dvds so we can't watch dvds from out of our country or "zone"... and now we won't even be able to fall back on "reverse engineering" our dvd players to play these things! Ugh. Just what we need, more complexity in an already needlessly complex market.
yeah, you're right. I'm not sure what I was thinking when I made the comment. I think deception = lying, so I think I should have rethought what I posted before.
yeah, you're right. I changed my mind since I made that comment...I should have thought it through a little more or at least read what I wrote. I was just arguing with a friend last night about this topic and I think that deceit is the same as lying, so the hardware manufacturer is clearly in the wrong. I'm not sure what I was thinking earlier.
nevermind, I changed my mind. I think deceit in itself is lying, so the technicality doesn't change the morality. Ignore my previous comment...I wasn't thinking clearly.
Alright, I understand that this is false advertising, because the reviewed product is different from the actual product, but don't both products accurately describe the contrast? Like...the reviewed products are 700 to 1, and the consumer ones are 450 to 1...but aren't they both labelled as that? I think this would fall into one of those "check before you buy" categories...one of those common sense things maybe. As long as both products clearly indicate what their specs are, there is deception, but no actual lies.
Did anyone notice the reforging of the shards of Narcil in the trailer? I was under the impression that aragorn already had his sword, and jackson just cut it out...hmmm, is this anywhere near the chronology of the books? I thought his sword was reforged before this point...
Just finished watching the trailer...wow, that's going to be great! I was pretty impressed, though it seems to be a bit of a downer....every time the text flies in it's something sad: "There can't be victory w/o loss" "no triumph w/o suffering" etc. Oh...and theodon's speech to the troops (I assume it's theodon...I didn't get a good look) includes talking about how there will be fighting among men in the future...but not now because they have to unite. I don't know about the men of Gondor and so forth...but that's not the sort of speech I'd want to hear before going into battle. *shrug* I'm sure the movie will be awesome though.
whoa...that's impressive. I'm actually at college and I just clicked on slashdot, saw the article and replied to it cuz I had just watched the film a little bit before. *shrug* Wow..that's some fast response time...I impress myself!

RIAA/MPAA: "You're infringing on copyrights!"
Kazaa: "No, you are!"
Sounds like playground banter to me.
That's awesome...let me fire up my dot matrix printer and I'll be in the money in no time! Woo!

but I just caught on to dvds!
As long as there's no possibility for replacing cds in sight, I'm ok....

you young-ins and your 32 bit processors...I'm using 16 bit and I have no plans on upgrading now. You'll be back...

800 KB/second! Best trailer download yet! Totally sweet.
Strange, the official lord of the rings site has no info on the new trailer. *shrug*
