I don't know if you guys know this...but Bobby Fisher didn't really dissappear...being a chess guy, he lacked on some social skills and was a little shy.....he has been hiding under my couch for the last several years trying to avoid social confrontation...but now that I know he has been tapping into my internet connection for personal gain, I am forced to reveal him on slashdot. Bobby fisher is in my house in trout run PA. Tell CNN. They need to give me money before they come to look at him.
That made no sense whatsoever. The discussion is not about whether or not these practices will be put to an end, the discussion is why they shouldn't be put to an end! My point still stands that these are useful services that benefit everyone....i am not denying that these services might be put out of business..they might be if these idiots get their way. I think you are on the wrong level of this discussion...the article (/. version) is talking about the possibility of these services being shut down...noone denies that. What I am saying is benefits of these services and why they should stay.
one other thing...if people are looking for an image on my page and they search for it through google, they can find what they want easily without having to download other images and stuff from my page. it is easier and better this way.
my site (Peterswift.org is cached on google and they have my images and pretty much everything i have on my site on their site. However, this doesn't bother me at all. They don't claim ownership to any of it, in fact, they blatantly say that they don't own any of it! I don't have a problem with them taking my page and putting it on their site. That just means more people access my page, and if my site ever happens to be down, then I don't have to worry as much. In fact..I hope google caches my site today, because I just uploaded about 40 or 50 images in the last week in my pictures folder, and if they cache it, then i don't have to worry about me screwing up html or anything...i can always pull my site from google. it is just another backup.:)
I have many, many of the bloom county collections (even the "Billy and the Boingers" official vinyl album.) I really enjoyed those books. However, the interview with Berke is nice...but I would really love to see some interviews of Bill Watterson....anyone know of any recent ones since his retirement?
I think that google's massive (over 10000 units) server farm (all x86) proves that the high end cpu's aren't worth it. Multiple low end CPU's do the same (if not better) job of one high end CPU. I think Google proves this point.
On TV, CNN had computer images showing the meteor's path and claimed that it was going south from Canada. However, even here it appeared to be going North West, and everyone I know thought it was going northwest. I put south from Canada, because generally CNN is more reliable than I am. I figure it appeared to be going northwest because of our location. Hence, I put down CNN's story. However, what I saw moved NORTHWEST. Sorry for the confusion.
I am definitely from one of those "smaller towns" in PA. Trout Run is technically a village (by population) CNN is now running another story about the whole deal. Tis located here . About 15 or so staff members at Camp Susque (the place where I work), saw it as well. (it freaked out the girls campers.:) I was lucky enough to witness the flash travelling for about 5 seconds. It left an incredible tail, even in broad daylight (the sun was still above the mountains and incredibly bright at the time...it was QUITE bright out right then) and was absolutely huge. Almost everyone else thought that it was only a hundred feet up in the air because of its size (which is ridiculous because it flew over some nearby mountains).
About 4 minutes or so later. I have heard sonic booms before, when I was hiking and the area got buzzed by some kind of jet, and this was nothing like that. The initial sound was like a massive explosion, and it reverberated down the valley for a good ten seconds or so. It was headed northwest, but appearently a chunk of it hit about 15 miles from Trout Run in Northern Williamsport. The reports say that it scorched a cornfield, but there was no impact or craters. The local radio station claims to have many pictures of some actual impact sites from wellsboro, but I have been all over their site ( wksb.com and I haven't found anything. If anyone has any pictures, please reply.
Herm....I think the easiest thing would be to have several game pads and several different hands. Several heads would also help so you could independently deal with each hand....
Actually, I had a concept a while ago about a multiple player game with all the players controlling one person, but just different aspects of the person. One person could deal with inventory, and another with strength etc...there could be struggles between the different parts of the person, which would make it slightly competitive between the players playing the game. This probably makes no sense to anyone else, but it makes perfect sense in my brain.:)
ps- working at Camp Susque really takes time away from cruising/. I haven't posted in over a month.:( This also means that my.sig is outdated because I haven't really updated my site since may.
I don't understand how they can have the constant flow of liquid nitrogen...won't this send the price of the whole operation up really high? does anyone have any information on how they plan on implementing the liquid nitrogen?
I think it is pretty cool that superconducting is actually gonna be used for something bigger than laboratory tests.:)
this reminds me of the mandelbrot set and such things...they are really beautifal and could be considered art. They are some of the neatest things to look at. Fractals are really neat, and I think are an excellent example of computer generate art.
I dunno if anyone else is having the same problem with the5k.org stuff, but I get an ASP issue....so...here is another link..it may or may not work.:) link If that doesn't work, just go to the5k.org and click on the 2001 winners circle. Trust me, it loads fast.:)
I dunno why, but this story reminded me of a question i had for the slashdot community. I was looking through some server logs the other day, and it has logs of different browsers and whatnot that are used to access our site. One of the browsers showed up as "Netscape 8." anyone know what's up with that?
Woohoo! I'm downloading it now! Thanks for informing me of these features!

whoa..those percentages are way wrong. You are forgetting the percentage of goatse.cx posts, the percentage of spork posts and the percentage of DIE BILL GATES DIE!! posts. Just to screw up your percentages even more, I will add a DIE BILL GATES DIE!! post right here for your inconveniance.
That is neat, but when will we have genetically modified children that would be able to fight amazon woman?
however, I think it is really neat that we can use genetic engineering to solve problems like this...It always looked nice on paper, but now that it has actually been accomplished, I bet a lot of more people will have a little more respect for this sort of thing. It would be really nice to prevent diseases and stuff using genetic engineering.
This reminds me of a dilbert cartoon when a vendor was trying to sell the most userfriendly computer in existance.
Vendor: And it only has one button, and we press it before it leaves the factory
Dilbert: What does that button do?
Vendor: Whoa! I'm in way over my head! Let me give you our tech support number.
I just hope that the hewlett-packard compaq merger doesn't ever enter into this...they could take over the world.

Does anyone know of games that could teach someone perl or php and stuff? Does anyone have a list of games that teach different programming languages?

Ummm...I can't seem to get the lazer game...any ideas? Appearently the page is up for construction.
if it is opensource...i could configure it, write my own bugs, and then find them!!! Woohoo! I'm gonna write my self a couple of Palm VII's tonight.
Woohoo! Now the RIAA can sue the backstreet boys for producing the music that can be put on napster!

I really like the title of this book. :)

but does it slice and dice? I won't get it unless it slices and dices.
