You still go to pr0n sites? Man.. that is SO 90s!. Nowadays we use peer-to-peer file sharing and IRC to get our wares.
well, we've bene using IRC forever, but it is still a good source.:)
I have a weird interest in wankel engines. Where did you get your experience reparing rotary engines? and do you feel they really are a better solution?
my guess is that you worked on hot-rodded RX-7's or something?
You have a good point, and I happen to agree with you. There will always be some people who go against the grain (twice in this instance... one for buying an apple, another for running linux on it).
Being both an AMD box and an Apple laptop owner, I like both. I use my AMD athlon as my home computer, and my apple as my laptop. on my home station, I use mandrake, on my laptop, strictly OS X.
OS X is not perfect, but I like it a lot. THe thing I really love is that I can run an X client on it so I can run X apps remotely on my laptop at work. The rest of the crap I do is through a terminal, so OS X is just fine, thank you.
OS X has many advantages: power management, better graphics, the modem works, more software, better hardware support.... everything just works.
and, you are right in that it is a package you are buying. some people just like to change things to their liking for philisophical or other reasons.... I personally am not up to that much work. I love linux on x86 hardware, but when I buy a Mac, I buy if for the lovely hardware and the good software and multimedia capabilites. Some people just love to tweak! good for them, i say, because if you have a choice in which OS you cna run on any given hardware, that is good for everyone.
Have you ever tried noise cancelation headphones? I also work in a large lab (filled with noise hard disk arrays) and have often thought about getting some noise cancellation headphones.
my problem is, i do not know how well they would work in that environment. I would think they would work well since the noise is constant and similar to a jet airplane, but i want to be sure before I buy some.
so if you or anyone has tried them in a noise server room/lab, let me know how they worked.
That's an interesting questions. I would guess you would need a TON of power to cancel out the sounds of a jet engine, but it would be an interesting question to ask an anti-sound engineer.
I would love to have one of these, as I am a very light sleeper.
That being said, the technology is the same thing as noise cancelling head phones (such as these, these, or these). These headphones simply rock if you have not tried them.
alternatively, you can use more traditional methods to quiet things down, like insulation. Putting some dynamat in your car will really dampen the noise and make it nice.
One thing I have always wanted to try for fun, is get a really sophisticated sound cancellation system with many microphones and many large speakers to broadcast the "anti"sound, and put it in a large area like a park or the mall.
then, don't tell anyone about it and watch the puzzled look on people's faces when they can't hear each other.
maybe it's not possible, but I sure do think it would be funny.
it is our stuff, let us do what we want. Now, if you want to put a friendly reminder in your software or even a checkbox that says "stop working when this software is out of date", fine. but don't force me to do anything.
Actually you can get much more than 10 notes coming out of a piano. in addition to using more than one person (2 sets of hands), pianists very often use the sustain pedal, that sustains notes that are hit without the key being held down. in this matter, the amount of notes you can play within a short period of time is virtually unlimited.
you probably knew this, but many slashdotters do not.

Not if the box is running Windows 95, thought. The box should not even be phased by this.
On Behalf of the Slashdot community, I would like to tell you how mad I am at you for putting all these April Fools jokes on Slashdot today! You really consused me and I thought Linux was going to retire from the Kernal!
I hope next year you won't have all these false articles, because I get really confused and don't know who to believe anymore!
I second your experience. I bought my white iBook (dual USB) about a year ago, and love it. I carry it around in my backpack and beat the hell out of it and it works fine. it is VERY durable. Apple laptops are very well built.

That f#$#cking pesky program Comet Cursor can install itself, depending what your IE securtiy level is at.
alternatively, you could not be a retard and drive 60 mph and see if it takes you one minute to drive one mile...

I'm not saying I don't agree with you, but can you give a specific example of where OS X does not work the way you want it to? Just curious...
The guy that replied to you is an idiot and did not read your post.
you basically said that you understood running linux if OS X was a dog on whatever hardware one had... he is just illiterate.

Don't you people read?
:)
No.
Thanks for asking.
This reminding me of something I saw the other day that proves that many humans would rather not talk to people at all:
I was at the bank, and pulled in the back to use the ATM.
in the back, there are three lanes: 1) a live teller 2) the ATM 3) another teller.
i was using the ATM, and the other two teller lanes were empty.
Tellers can do everything an ATM can, and more, faster.
Not one, but TWO card pulled behind me to WAIT for the ATM when there were two teller lines available?! I was surprised.
i don't know wher you shop, but my grocery store has a wide variety of beer (and no, not just american piss beer).
Simple... bluetooth transceivers in both the glasses and tables!
moderators: why is this modded down? this has serious potential in the future and should not be discounted.

moderators:
why did you mod this as insightful? this is NOT insightful, it is sarchasm!
could somebody moderate this that is not on amphetamines?
exactly. your point is simple, but important.

for if you do, i won't use your product.
alex: this type of other certain other sites won't let you turn off the ads.
me: [pushes buzzer]... what is pr0n?
[DING!][DING!][DING!][DING!][DING!]
alex: you answered correctly, select a category.
me: I'll take Pr0n for $500, alex!
and in addition to that, Comet Cursor seemed to install itself with no intervention on IE. I have seen it done.
i have ALSO seen it not want to uninstall properly. hmmm....
f%^%cking comet cursor.

I had better nslookup all the common domains I use just in case! But you are right, DNS is not critical.
You are absolutely right. It's aboot freedom. It's aboot security. It's aboot obscurity. It's aboot time we move this thing to Canada!
