    So..

    687 (Chapter VI) is NOT enforcable

    BUT

    678 (Chapter VII) IS enforcable

    And since 678 requires Iraq to comply with all subsequent resolutions, this automatically "upgrades" every other resolution on Iraq to ENFORCABLE, regardless of its usual status.

    Of course this war has nothing to do with disarmament, so the point is moot.

    This open letter is nothing but a troll. A publicity stunt. If it were sincere, they would not take every opportunity to demean and insult Microsoft.

    As you know, the Xbox is a normal PC that has been deliberately designed by yourselves so that as sold, it can only execute programs which Microsoft has approved.

    .. with many more that would be available if Microsoft did not suppress them.

    Xbox Linux gives choices back to the user which Microsoft denies them

    XBox Linux may be a worthwhile project and it would be great to have it signed, but this stunt is just pathetic.

    Simple. Given a choice of carrying a pager AND a cellphone or just a cellphone, which would you choose?

    You don't have to spend money just to "figure out how to use it". Thousands of admins use Nagios just fine without any support (free or otherwise).

    This person has a specific problem that few other people have. It is an extraordinary requirement and as such he'd be better off hiring someone to help.

    Yes, this is a shame. I too hope they can get together and freeze the API or whatever it is thats holding things up.

    Last time I tried php with apache (4.2.2 + 2.0.43 IIRC), apache would segfault when it received a SIGHUP after log rotation. It seems libphp4 was not handling the signal correctly.

    This may have been solved by now, but I'm not going to use PHP with Apache 2.x until it gets better than this.

    Yep, seconded. 3Ware have been good in my experience. Nice mgmt software also.

    I've used software RAID1 in linux for a couple of years and while it does work, it can be tricky sorting out bootloader issues. I've settled on 3ware for IDE RAID from now on.

    SCSI is nice, but IDE has better bang for the buck.

    Last time I checked, GCC source tarballs STILL aren't signed, despite this being brought to the maintainer's attention. The perception that MD5 sums are sufficient is extremely common.

    Trojaned gcc, anyone?

    I've had FIVE of these die in the last year. Five out of about Eight. Model number is MPG3204AT. Someone in my department had his drive die on Monday.

    Why not just tell your browser to remember the login? Frankly I trust my computer a lot more than some corporation - Microsoft or otherwise.

    Don't worry. Redhat has an irritating policy of backporting fixes into previously released versions of each package. Its the revision number that counts. Check the date on that file.

    OT: Anyone care to elaborate on why apache 2.0.40 requires at least openssl 0.9.6e? I modified the configure script to accept 0.9.6c and it was happy enough...

    [CIO] Smith has spoken publicly on a number of occasion about his preference for open standards and systems and listed Sun boss Scott McNealy as his most admired IT figure in a recent magazine interview.

    As others have noted, this is probably just a ploy to get a better price from Microsoft. I wouldn't be surprised to see an announcement, in a new months, that Telstra have negotiated a new five year deal with Microsoft.. and Smith is no longer CIO.

    I raised this via the mailing list a few months back - some emails were traded but nothing has come of it.

    Many packages are signed these days - it virtually guarantees that the code you are downloading has not been modified by any third parties. You all remember the irssi , BitchX and openssh incidents right?

    Trojaned gcc, anyone?

    * Add XFS (A journaling filesystem from SGI) - Excuse-the-hell me? Isn't the idea to get journaling filesystems in to the kernel because that's what everyone wants? XFS is proven, get it the heck in there.

    Easy there - XFS has been available available for months for those that really want it. It'd be nice to have it in the base kernel, but its not like you're going without.

    I'd like to know exactly what hasn't been implemented in IPv6...

    The latest version of Mandrake Linux includes supermount and I've grown to like it. It would be nice to have it in the kernel, even if it was marked EXPERIMENTAL.

    If this is a drop in replacement for parallel ATA, why is support needed in the linux kernel?
