All those Bart Simpson "don't have a cow, man" t shirts or the dolls and i've seen stickers and socks and boxers and bubble gum and video games for the Simpsons. So yeah don't sell out ever Matt!!!!
That a company was making a mini disc like device that stored a gig or so (close to any way) using technology similar to DVD. They were suppose to be releasing it this March, but I haven't heard anything since? Does anyone know what's up with this? The discs were about the size of a half-dollar and at the time I thought would be a cool replacement for floppy because the write time is no where near what it takes to write a CDR (and for documents and such that are small in size anyway, it still doesn't take long on a cdr)
I can't find the issue of Pop Sci or remember any names, but I'm curious if anyone knows if there are groups still working on media like this?
I had seen a blurb on Fox News a few weeks ago about the Borneo gov. rigging poor villages with solar powered battery stations so they had power to run computers and thus they were wired with the internet. The pictures they showered were people living in houses no better than the tree forts I had built when I was a kid. "Papa leave the computer on so we can eat with light tonight."
I concur here, especially if they're forcasting we're going to hit a recession. Who's going to support free when those companies are falling apart instead of pay-out-ass monopolies?
Speaking of simulated crimes, and since u mention simulated rape, there's an episode of Law & Order that I've seen on A&E many times. It's about a man whois released from prison after serving time for multiple rapes. The DA's office (Sam Waterston as Jack McCoy) keeps trying to lock him back up. There's a Catch-22 in the story that says he's served his time and should go free but he has the ability and perhaps mental state to rape again so lock him up.
A lot of what I've been reading on/. lately has been of a similar Catch-22. DeCSS could be used for bad, so ban it, but it was created for a worthwhile purpose as well, so save it. The laundry list goes on and on, all the while there are large numbers of people arguing on one side to save it, and others having closed door, back alley treaties signed, to ban it. In that case I tend to side with the save it camp, since the big corp's are being shady about this possibly inventive and inspiring technology. That also leads me to feel sympathetic towards the topic here, that computer graphics aren't anything but, yet some people want to stamp out a..possible... not even probable... problem.
Ya spend too much time readin'/. and not enough time doing anything about the problems.
The system only works when "We The People..." people actually do something. Just because it's the land of the free don't mean you get to sit back and let everyone else moderate themselves. Sure you can't censor but if your neighbor is peeing on your rose bushes and letting his dog crap in your yard, don't expect the cops to just pop up out of thin air. It's also the home of the brave remember, so stop being a conspiracy theorist addict and fix what you think is broken.
Although if we all ban together and it still doesn't get fixed, hm, we'll get Malda to call them militia guys in MI.
What a crutch the "Oh technology *computers in general* are so helpful."
I was a network assistant at a school district for a little over a year and a half, the biggest gain I noticed the staff gained with using computers is they could look up a students schedule and know what class they were in at any time of the day. (That was mostly of benefit to the middle school and high school.)
Perhaps it was partly poor implementation and training, I know the first technology coordinator as he was called, I worked under there wasn't the most competent with tech. and helping the staff to learn it's uses.
Even still if email was down for a day or printing was screwed up (which was a common occurence in the early days, poor implementation again) they just did what they did ten years before and made phone calls, wrote down messages on paper, and took attendence by hand.
Sure it's nice, but is it a necessity? Compared to some things (cars, modern housing and the such) certainly not. A pc is just a smarter dummy box than a television. Cell phones are just annoying gimmicks and the internet is so fulla shit they don't even consider it a valid research tool for students at the schools.
To me it seems valuable to the geeks that keep making faster chips, bigger more complicated programs, and lots of money off it.
Though let's not forget the advantage of all this porn, eh? But I digress. Excelsior.
Not everyone wants to use it pirate DVD's.
Using a DVD player in Linux would be nice.
What's that? Use Windows? NO WAY MAN!
(ok so I am right now but I'm not at home:P)
Everyone says it's going to be a tight election, which they said fifty years ago (abouts) when the media polls showed a close race between two candidates (for the life of me I can't remember who) and when some scientists entered stats for both candidates into one of modern day computers back then found that one candidate would win by a landslide and I believe the computer was off by one percent.
man every time someone thinks the computers of the world are going to melt in a year... two years...50 years... there's either a fix in half the time or when the time comes it's less of a disaster than they expected.
Big word egomaniacal. I love how all types of psycho babble are spewed whenever someone just rants and raves like a loon these days.
Why not calm down everyone and just realize that until your own sht doesn't stink we don't need to defend or attack everyone else's actions. Let people take the blame or worship that comes with and hold our tongues for once.
Let's not forget though that Frank Miller also penned Robocop 2 and 3 for the big screen.
I'm a major Frank fan when it comes to comic books, but this makes me nervous, because I'm also a major Batman fan.
The YO story also I don't see working very well with some of the old tricks from the former movies. Rubber suits are too gimmicky. Will they actually have a car? all the cave stuff and goofy gadgets?
I want this will be cool but I'll hold my breath until it actually happens. Bring in Matt Wagner too, that would be cool.

Screenshots of W3D last summer on IGN. I can't find a preview or the article there now, but they looked just as good then. Scooped!

I downloaded it and put it on one of my desktops about 2 weeks ago.

Motorola has hit 1 Ghz with the G4 Processor. Here's the story from CNET
I'm sure Apple's pricing might scare people away from a G4 too, unless they sell a kid
