I hate having to wait half a day before I can visit a page that's been slashdotted. I propose I post after I've viewed the page and then everyone else gets a turn.
If the Gov. or a business is about to suggest that because certain software and/or hardware(DeCSS, mp3s or players[portable ones specifically], non region coded DVD players, DVD recorders or file sharing services or whatever else I'm missing) *CAN* potentially be used in a criminal act and there for banned, then I rally for a ban on ALL GUNS and KNIVES and automobiles and baseball bats and paint and hand saws and chain saws and beer bottles, rope, wood boards, golf clubs, baseballs, bricks, and while we're at it start chopping of limbs cuz you never know you could shoplift.
I can understand a basic business law structure for copyrights and other IP rights, but why does the Government get so involved in creating rules for business? Isn't that up to the companies to create and the consumers to be the judge on whether or not they like how it works? I know this isn't exactly the situation but I hear about tax cuts for industries to help spur production or the giant one I heard about for the oil industry so they can use that extra 13 billion a year to create alternative energy resources (like it will happen). There's so much in the news about laws and bills being passed to aid business, what's up with that? Isn't it suppose to be by of for the *people*?
be up to the companies that put out the movies (Of which Sony seems to do now and again) instead of the Government(s) lobbying FOR the studios? Just curious.
It's just more of a recession from the elevated plateau the economy was in for the last couple years, when the whole.com boom took off.
I see this as less something to worry about and perhaps something more to take advantage of. It's time for more innovation and not just cashing in on the hype.
You make it sound like Bill Gates is responsible for fucking plagues and wars and hunger and homelessness. He's not Ebinezer Fucking Scrooge, get over this holier than thou crusade. Ya'll have too much frustration and some fucking issue if you just bitch about how someone else has conducted his or her business.
And I don't wanna hear no spew about "Oh morality, and ethics and their software is shit." Their software has a lot of features I like to use and find handy, so until you all personally make something that can handle certain tasks I need to accomplish on a day to day basis stop your damn belly achin' you pansies. Life could always be worse ya could have some dibilitating tumor or be blind deaf and dumb rather than having to deal with a piece of software that you don't like. If that's the only thing in your life that raises your ire then life can't be that damn bad.
Is it me or don't all these mp3 players that companies continue to produce and develop into other products (the handhelds and phones, etc.) fall under the stylized junk that was just panned
Do you any of you work for Blizzard? Or New Line? Do you have a stake in the precedence this might create for the company you work for?? Other than the fact that it involves a game that you probably drool over, does this affect you in any way? By all means lets worry about so much we can't control. Can Taco and the others return to posting cool techy news and not crap about IP. Leave it to the lawyers and those involved, and if you become one then fight it. No one can prevent let alone even forsee all the of the futures ills.

At least they start to make one think that's what their intentions are.
