  1. Patent for displaying images on URL bar on USPTO Issues Email Address Patent to Microsoft · · Score: 1

Is there ay patent for displaying "a small image" with the website name on URL bar?
Is there any patent for displaying a "lock" on user viewable area on my web browser?
Is there any patent on displaying "junk" if the my e-mail client thinks the e-mail is junk?
My termninal shows files and directories in different color. Is that patented..

Any application development can team come with a hundreds of patents. Whom does it help?

Someone should quickly patent the process of patenting software patent and stop others from filing any more gibberish patents..

  2. More than software on Software Patents Stopped in India · · Score: 1

The patent issue in India was discussed at length in Local magazines. Primary problem there was getting medicines at cheaper cost. This include medicines used by AIDS patient in Africa et all. Hence the patent regime in India could have had a major impact for poor patients in may parts of the world.

Indian software companies does not make much money from Patents. There are companies like IBM (or take any biggie) that do lot of work in India, but they file the patent in US. That would not be stopped because of this law..

  3. CDAC does not do justice on Bridging India's Digital Divide With Linux · · Score: 1

    Offtopic Note on CDAC.
This once a pioneer organisation. Not anymore. They do some good work, but not enough. Here is in article on IMSc,Chennai building their on super computer. http://www.expresscomputeronline.com/20040816/cove rstory01.shtml

Tata Institute of Fundemental Research in Pune, decided to by CRAY machine. It is not funny that CDAC did not win these orders.

Coming to their contribution to common man. They have developed local langiage fonts, and DTP software. I have not seen anyone using these DTP software though. Probably CDAC is not very keen on pushing the products to mass markets.

It should be affordable to make Voluntary compliance a success. How much should we pay for a song? How much should they - Music companies and artists- make?
I would say 1$ per song is on very high side.

Here is one site in India http://www.saregama.com/ which does make custom CD. (not MP3 , though). Someone could enhance this to make to work with MP3/OGG formats so the cost of media will come down.
