I am giving the domain xboxlinux.com to the first person to successfully port/install Linux to the X-Box. No cost, no strings except you must be willing to continue work on it and release it to the public in some form.
One wonders if J. Allard even knows that "Run Lola Run" was actually brought to us by Sony.
Unless Sony is suddenly a German company, this guy needs to get his facts straight. The only part Sony has in this movie was buying the distribution rights a couple years after it was released.
I bet they blamed this on 9/11 too. Oh well, I just felt like burning off some extra karma. being at the cap isn't very fun unless you can post useless drivel at +2.
I'm basing this on consumer perception alone. Nintendo has Mario and Pokemon, and they sell big (probably an understatement as well). Is it because Ernie the 45 year-old mechanic buys them? Of course not.
I'm not saying that Gamecube is ONLY for kids, or that X-Box/PS2 are ONLY for adults. But from a strictly demographic viewpoint, that's how the console landscape is defined. Sony Realizes this, and so does Nintendo. Microsoft is somewhere in the middle trying to find their niche, they would much rather carve out their own slice of the pie rather than try and take one of the other big guys on directly.
First off, let me tell you that I am biased, I have a PS2 and about 15 games (and about 30 or so PS1 games). That said, I am not looking to buy either a X-Box or Gamecube.
Ok, now that I have that off my chest, I would like to declare the current state of affairs in the gaming world:
The lineup. - PS2 has already won among those 16+ (adult gamers).
- Nintendo will always win with kids under 16 because it's their parents who buy it for them. Nintendo is going to trounce X-Box in X-mas sales.
- MS has a place, but it's a shame that for now it's going to be last. X-box reminds me of Nader, because you know he's not going to win, but he's going to take votes away from someone else. in this case, taking sales away from PS2. X-Box is the other console geared at 16+ crowds.
For the sake of brevity, I'm going to leave Gamecube out of the rest of this discussion, Nintendo knows their target audience and how to market to them, bravo for them, they aren't going out of business anytime soon. X-Box however has a LONG road to travel, uphill, in snow. The PS2 is already beginning to release 2nd generation titles and is slated to release additional hardware/mods to their console soon (I believe it was Q1 2002, if anyone knows the exact timing, let me know). X-Box has still yet to prove itself as a worthy contendor to any console.
Christmas shoppers and Terrorists. Another blow to the X-Box is also their strong selling point, games geared towards adults. Well, a year ago, many parents might have turned a blind eye to video game violence that their kids ingested, but now we have evil terrorists and we have to protect the children. Chalk that round up to Gamecube and their family oriented games.
The conclusion. Gamecube will take the sales lead this season, with *gasp* X-Box right behind them. Sales of games for PS2 will be astronomical though as many buyers are now asking for titles instead of units.
An insider, possibly a mechanic, rigged the engine with a bomb. Now I'm going to stretch this a bit and say that there might have been actual hijackers on the plane, and that they were forcefully taken down... but the engine bomb still went off.
I hate to be the guy who shoves a hot poker in the eye of this... but we really don't need more sysadmins.
What the tech industry needs is better coders and more robust administration programs where simple tasks, even server cloning can all be automated. Setting up a website or email or dns for a customer should be painless, fast and simple.
The ultimate goal of every sysadmin and programmer should be to render themselves obsolete.
Actually look at the server blade by RLX, they use the Crusoe chip and stuff something like 30 servers into the same space as a 5U
---
Q5: Can you offer more detail about the RLX System 324 specifications?
A5: Each ServerBlade is an independent server, which contains a 633MHz Transmeta Crusoe processor with 512KB L2 cache. We chose this chip because it requires significantly less power than today's conventional processors. Each RLX System 324 ServerBlade features memory that supports either a 128 MB, 256 MB or 512 MB module running at 133 MHz. The ServerBlade can accommodate up to two disk drives with 10GB or 30GB capacities available to choose from. Each ServerBlade also has three embedded 10/100 Fast Ethernet NICs on each server for built-in networking and network control. The major difference between the ServerBlade and other servers commonly in use is that the ServerBlade is the first server blade design with a complete server software solution pre-installed on the ServerBlade itself. The RLX System 324 eliminates video, CD-ROM and floppy drives, providing fewer points of failure.
Class A - supports 16 million hosts on each of 127 networks
24.255.255.255
Class B - supports 65,000 hosts on each of 16,000 networks
24.45.255.255
Class C - supports 254 hosts on each of 2 million networks
24.45.126.255
Two years ago, most programmers were fat and content in their dot com job and didn't really have too much spare time for such stuff.
Now with the job market in the shitter, I can see someone putting plenty of effort into coding a worm for Linux (especially for $10K). A lot of people now have nothing else to do except submit resumes and work on personal projects.
3-6 months - someone actually writes a fully functional OpenAOL client that people are willing to use.
+ 2-3 months - AOL figures things out, issues cease and desist letters, starts blocking OpenAOL clients.
+ 1 week - OpenAOL figures out new protocols (return to previous step as needed while Lawyers OpenAOL users)
+ ??? months - AOL finally wins in a DMCA case that no one cares about because by this time everyone is using DSL and realizes that AOL and is another weight throwing mega-corp.
Note: AOL will probably blow a LOT of money fighting this too, that's why this is so humorous to me... I look forward to seeing ideas like this show up on rtmark.com.
Just send the location of the ad as an encrypted string... and make it so that only the valid client can decrypt it (ad plugin app?).
I know that AOL will never let a new client co-exist peacefully, I'm just trying to point out the technical paths that AOL might take to shut any competitors down.
They would have to force upgrades on current AOL subscribers in order for their clients to understand and new protocol changes. Frankly I don't see this happening, even if they tried to force upgrades at initial connection they would have to be able to patch every supported version at once (ver4/5/6). It seems like that would be a daunting task and could only backfire in their face if they f*cked up a patch.
TechWorld - Defacement: You get into someone's website and move stuff around.
RealWorld - Defacement: You walk into someone's store and change the window display around because it wasn't locked.
I'm more afraid that the vaccine will cause problems too. Ever had a flu shot? They basically inject you with a weakened strain of the virus in order to make you immune, imagine if they inject people with something that isn't weak enough (I've gotten VERY bad flu "symptoms" from getting a flu shot).
With something of this scope I'd rather take my chances without it. Personally if I found out that I had contracted some infectious disease as a result of bio-terrorism, I would be on the next flight to Pakistan trying to cross into Afghanistan so I could personally infect some of those idiots.
STEP 1: Place hand 3 inches above head and 3 inches in front of head.
STEP 2: Briskly move hand from previous position to 3 inches above head and 6 inches behind head.

Oh well, that's my theory.
He's talking about Canada, even if they aren't the cause of the crash, we still need to nuke them.
NASA is trying to protect you from the terrible secrets of space.
Does this mean Osama and his buddies are going to dress up in purple sheets and Nikes and off themselves?
I love metor showers!

Cool, I'll blow 3 karma points with you (42 karma). :)
What happens when someone steals the basket with all your eggs?
Send special forces to kill the bunny. And cluster bombs, lots of fucking cluster bombs
Maximum connections per IP series (correct me if there is a better term for XXX.XXX.XXX.*)=2

Fine, I'll just patent this process and sue the RIAA. Let's take this back to the courtroom where it belongs.

This one is actually quite easy... The client connects and download ads or else the RAS kicks them offline for being "idle" :)
They would have to force upgrades on current AOL subscribers in order for their clients to understand and new protocol changes. If you want to go for some analogies that works:
TechWorld - Defacement: You get into someone's website and move stuff around.
RealWorld - Defacement: You walk into someone's store and change the window display around because it wasn't locked.
Escalate scenarios as necessary.
I have seen the new Matrix, and it sucks. Thank-you, come again!

I don't have a license for sound effects related to this movement.
